Quality, property, attribute, குணம். 5. Excellence, eminence, dignity, மாட்சிமை. 6. [in gram.] Possession, ownership, relation of one thing to another, as denoted by the possessive case or the local ablative. The relation is of two kinds; தற்கிழமை, that between a whole and its parts or attributes--as in தலைமயிர் and ஆட்டுக்கால்; and பிறிதின்கிழமை, that between different things--as in மலை யாடு, அவன்வீடு. 7. A day of the week, வாரத் திலொருநாள். 8. A week, வாரம். கிழமைபடவாழ். Live so as to be useful. கிழத்தி, s. A mistress, a lady, தலைவி. 2. A lady in an agricultural district, மரு தநிலத்தலைவி. 3. [in astrol.] The lunar day peculiarly related to a given day of the week; lit. the lunar day on which the day of the week is born. கிழமைவட்டம், s. A week. கிழவர், s. (pl. of கிழவன்.) Proprietors, relations, &c., உரியோர். See கிழவன் under கிழம், infra. ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை, s. Sunday. பெருங்கிழமை, s. Entire or sole right, absolute title, prerogative, முழுவுரிமை. 2. Being connected or related in all possible ways, close friendship, intimacy or familiarity, மிகுநேயம். 39)

tiṉ (p. 241) கிறேன், றேன் பேன், ன, v. a. To eat, to feed, to take a meal, உண்ண. 2. [in poetry.] To eat light food, pastries and relishes, &c., சிற்றுண்டிபுசிக்க. 3. To chew, to masticate, மெல்ல. 4. To devour--said of an animal, பட்சிக்க. 5. To eat away, consume, corrode--as white ants, ironmould, rust, &c., அரிக்க. (c.) தின்றதெல்லாஞ்சமித்துப்போயிற்று. What he has eaten is digested; i. e. he ahs forgotten the benefits I have done him. தின்றுகொழுத்துப்போனான். By eating (of my food) he is become fat and saucy. (In abuse.) செல்லுதின்றுவிடும். The white ants will eat away. தின்னாவீட்டில்தின்னி. One who eats with low families. [prov.] மண்தின்றுவிடும். The earth will corrode it. இந்தஎருதுஅந்தஎருதைத்தின்றுவிடும். This ox will surpass that. நேற்றுத்தின்றதீன்அல்லவோ. Is not the (work, &c.) for what ate yesterday; i. e. I want food to day. புல்லைத்தின்னும்மாடுஉதவுகிறதுபோலப்புலியைத்தின் னுஞ்சென்னாய்உதவுமோ. Will a wild dog which kills the tiger be as useful as an ox that eats grass; i e. will any one who lives luxuriously labor like one who takes plain food? யானைத்தின்றவிளாங்களிபோலே. Like the woodapple which the elephant had eaten (swallowed); i. e. hollow, the substance being absorbed through the unbroken shell. தின்பண்டம், s. (com. தீன்பண்டம்.) Eatables, including pastry and fruits. தின்பண்டநல்கல், v. noun. One of the thirty-two acts of charity. See அறம். தின்றல்---தின்னல்--தின்னுதல், v. noun. A eating. தின்றி, s. Eatables, தீன். தின்றிப்போத்து, s. (Tel. திிபோது.) A glutton; (lit.) a well-fed bull. தின்றுகழிக்க, inf. To loathe food from satiety. தின்னாச்சாதி, s. Low castes, with whom it is disgraceful to eat. ny (p. 270) க்கிறது, த்தது, or ந்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To be cheap, மலிய. 2. To be advantageous, profitable, useful, பயன்பட. 3. Meaning, signification, interpretation, சொற்பொருள். 4. Width, breadth, extent, space, அகலம். பயனிலாள், s. A harlot as reaping no good either in this life or the next, வேசி. பயனிலி, appel. n. A useless man, woman, or thing. பயனிலை, s. [in gram.] The attribute or predicate, the word that completes the sense, in whole or in part, பொருண் முடிபு.--Of this there are: 1. the verb completing an action, as சாத்தன்வந்தான்; 2. the verb elided, when the noun includes the action, as சாத்தன்அவன்; 3. the verb understood, in a question, as சாத்தன்எவன். பயனில்சொல், s. [neg. பயனிலசொல் லாமை.] Useless words, one of the four kinds of இழிசொல். பயனுவமை-பயனுவமம், s. One of the four kinds of simile. See உவமை. பயன்கருத்து, s. Ploughing between standing corn, to promote its growth. பயிரழிவு, v. noun. Waste or destruction of vegetation, by beasts flood, &c. பயிராகுதல், v. noun. Growing up as plants, herbage, &c. 2. Being pregnant as animals, as பலப்படுதல். இந்தமாடுபயிராகியிருக்கிறது. This cow is big with calf. பயிராக்க--பயிர்செய்ய, inf. To cultivate corn, trees, plants, herbage, &c. பயிரேற, inf. To thrive as vegetation. பயிர்க்குடி--பயிரிடுங்குடி, s. A peasant. See குடி. பயிர்தீக்குங்காற்று, s. A wind that blasts the growing crops. பயிர்த்தொழில், s. peṇ (p. 332) s. [gen. பெண்ணின்.] A female in general, பெண்பொது. 2. A female of the human species, a woman. a girl, &c., ஆட வள். 3. A bride, a wife, விவாகப்பெண். 4. The feminine gender in the animal and vegetable kingdom, விலங்குமுதலியவற்றின்பெண். (c.) பெண்ணென்றால்பேயுமிரங்கும். Even a fiend will pity a woman. பெண்கரு, s. Female embryo. பெ பெண்கலை, s. The latter half of a verse, called வண்ணம். பெண்கள்சிகாமணி, s. A jewel-like woman. (in admiration.) பெண்கள்நாயகம், s. An excellent woman, a lady. பெண்குறி, s. Pudendum muliebre. பெண்கேட்க, inf. To solicit a girl of her friends, in marriage. பெண்கொடி, s. A lady; (lit.) a female vine. (p.) பெண்கொடுக்க, inf. To give a girl in marriage. பெண்கொடுத்தமாமன், s. A father-inlaw, as distinguished from தாய்மாமன். பெண்கொள்ள--பெண்ணெடுக்க, inf. To take a wife, to take a woman in marriage, to marry. பெண்கோலம்--பெண்வேஷம், s. Female attire or costume. பெண்சகோதரம், s. A sister, உடன்பி றந்தாள். (Colloq.) பெண்சாதி, s. A wife, மனைவி. (usage.) பெண்சோடினை, s. Adorning a bride for marriage. 2. See சோடினை. பெண்டகர்--பெண்டர், s. [pl.] Hermaphrodites, eunuchs, அலிகள். (சது.) பெண்டகை--பெண்டகைமை, s. Womanhood, feminine properties, excellencies; [ex தகை, nature.] (p.) பெண்ணரசி, s. A reigning female, a queen. 2. An opulent lady, செல்வமுடை யாள். பெண்ணரசு, s. Female government. 2. A superior woman. 3. [met.] Domination of a woman. பெண்ணரசுநாடு, s. A country governed by a woman. பெண்ணலம், s. Female excellency; [ex நலம்.] 2. Enjoyment with a woman, பெண்ணின்பம். பெண்ணன், s. A timid, effeminate, cowardly man, வீரமற்றவன். பெண்ணாசை, s. Desire for a woman. See ஆசை. பெண்ணாய்ப்பிறந்தவள், appel. n. A female, a woman; (lit.) one born a female. பெண்ணாய்ப்பிறந்தவள் வீட்டிலிருக்கவேண்டும். A woman should keep at home. பெண்ணாள், s. [in astrol.] The female division of the lunar asterism; [ex நாள்.] பெண்ணீலி, s. A very atrocious, wicked woman. 2. A female demon; [ex நீலி.] பெண்ணுடம்பு, s. The body of a woman. 2. [modeste.] Verenda mulieris. (Beschi.) பெண்ணுறுப்பு, s. Symmetry of a woman, female form, பெண்வடிவு. 2. As பெண்குறி. பெண்ணெழுத்து, s. Long vowels, நெட்டெழுத்து. பெண்தண்டு, s. See தண்டு. பெண்பருவம், s. The different stages of life in the female. See பருவம். பெண்பழி--பெண்பாவம், s. The guilt of forcing a woman. பெண்பனை, s. The female palmyra, useful for fruit and timber. See பனை. பெண்பாடு, s. Women's work or affair. பெண்பால், s. [in gram.] Feminine gender. See பால். பெண்பிள்ளை, s. A female infant, a girl, பெண்குழந்தை. 2. A woman, in general. 3. A bride, மணப்பெண். பெண்பிறப்பு, s. Female birth, commonly regarded as a misfortune. பெண்புத்தி--பெண்மதி, s. Female indiscretion; woman's wit. [in contempt.] பெண்புத்திபின்புத்தி. Female advice will result in disappointment. பெண்பேதை, s. A female, as being weak and indiscreet. பெண்போகம், s. Enjoyment with a woman. 2. One of the thirty-two acts of charity, and of the eight enjoyments. See அறம், and போகம். பெண்மகள், s. A woman, a lady, பெண். பெண்மயக்கம்--பெண்மயல், s. Fascination from love-sickness. பெண்மயிர், s. Female locks, அளகம். பெண்மரம், s. A female tree or plant, &c. 2. (சது.) A tree, the outside of which is harder than the inside, புறவயிர முள்ளமரம். பெண்மாயம், s. Fascinations of a women. பெண்மாறி. See பெட்டைமாறி. பெண்மை, s. Womanliness, nature of women, பெண்டன்மை. 2. Household dignity, domestic excellence, மனைமாட் சிமை. (சது.) பெண்மைச்சினைப்பெயர், s. [in gram.] Nouns feminine, from any member, or part, as முடத்தி, a female cripple-- also applied to the lower animals. பெண்மைச்சினைமுதற்பெயர், s. Nouns feminine from a member but including the whole body, as முடக்கொற்றி, the lame Kotty, though lame only in a limb. பெண்மைமுதற்பெயர், s. Nouns feminine being the name of a person, as கொற்றி, a woman. பெண்வகை, 4. Four classes of women: 1. பதுமினி, the highest class, possessing excellence of form, and sweetness of disposition; 2. சித்திருணி or சித்தினி, a class addicted to love; 3. சங்கினி, a mediocre class, irascible and passionate; 4. அத்தினி, the lowest class libidinous and furious. பெண்வழி, s. Family descent in the female line.

vāy (p. 385) s. Mouth, வாக்கு. 2. A mouthful, வாய்கொண்டது. 3. Mouth of a cup, a bag, a wound; the muzzle of a gun, &c., பற்றுவாய். 4. Lip, or lips, உதடு. 5. (நல்.) Place, இடம். 6. Manner, mode, ஏழனுருபு. 8. Truth, மெய். 9. A word, சொல். (சது.) அவனுக்குவாயாலும்வயிற்றாலும்போகிறது. He is both passing stools, and vomiting. வாயைமூடு. Hold your tongue. இன்னம்ஒருவாய்சாப்பாடு. Take a mouthful more. எனக்குவாயெழவில்லை. I cannot say a word. இதுகுரைகடல்வாயமுதென்கோ. Shall I call this the nectar of the roaring sea? (p.) குடத்தின்வாயைப்பிடியாதே. Do not take the pot by its mouth. சந்துவாய். The joint, or place of joining boards, &c. தூற்றுவாய். The wind-ward side in winnowing. வாயடிக்க, inf. To chatter, to tergiversate. வாயடைக்க, inf. To put to silence, to confute an adversary, to shut his mouth. 2. To fail in speech as a dying person. வாயலம்ப, inf. To rinse the mouth, before eating, sometimes with appropriate incantations. வாயறியாதுதின்ன, inf. To eat without thought. வாயாங்காரம், s. Arrogance as displayed in one's speech; words of self-conceitedness. வாயாட, inf. [appel. n. வாயாடி.] To speak much and to little purpose, to babble. 2. To quarrel, to argue frivolously, வாதாட. வாயாடிப்பெட்டிமகன். An impertinent good-for-nothing-man. வாயார, With open mouth, See ஆர், v. வாயாவி, s. The breath of the mouth as distinct. from. மூச்சு. வாயாவிபோக்க, inf. To yawn. 2. [met.] To speak vainly. வாயிலெடுக்க, inf. To vomit. வாயிலேபோட்டுக்கொள்ள, inf. To injure one, (lit.) to put in the mouth. (abusively.) வாயில்வந்தபடி. As it flowed from his mouth, at random. அவன்வாயில்வந்தபடிதிட்டினான். He abused as much as his mouth could! வாயில்லாச்சீவன்--வாய்விடாச்சீவன், s. Dumb animals. வாயிழந்துகேட்க, inf. To ask a favor of an inferior, or of an equal. வாயுதவி--வாயுபகாரம், s. Help or aid by word of mouth. வாயுபசாரம், s. Empty compliments. வாயுறைவாழ்த்து, s. An admonition to young people who behave ill, from their seniors; painful, but useful, ஓர்பிரபந்தம். வாயூற, inf. To water, to form or collect as saliva. 2. To flow from the mouth as spittle, to slaver, எச்சிலொழுக. 3. To water in the mouth for something nice to eat, வாயினீரூற. 4. To long for wealth, fame, office, or learning, அவாவ. வாயெடுக்க, inf. To begin to speak, (lit.) to take mouth. வாயெடுக்கவொட்டாமலடிக்கிறது. Refuting one so that he cannot open his mouth. வாய்கட்ட, inf. [v. noun. வாய்க்கட்டு.] To silence one. 2. To charm a snake or beast so as to prevent its biting. 3. To abstain from improper food when dieting. வாய்கனக்க, inf. [prov.] To articulate indistinctly, as when having the mouth filled with food. வாய்கிறுது, s. Arrogant speech. வாய்கிறதுபேசினாலுதைவரும். If one speak arogantly a kick will follow. வாய்குளிற, inf. To bawl, to vociferate, இரைய. 2. As வாய்வெருவ. வாய்கொடுக்க, inf. To kindle a quarrel. வாய்கொடாமலிருக்கிறது. Being silent. 2. Being unfriendly. வாய்க்கட்டை, s. A gag for a mouth, in abuse. 2. [in cant.] Bribery. வாய்க்கணக்கு, s. Mental arithmetic. 2. Account kept in the memory. வாய்க்கரிசி, s. A ceremony of putting rice into the mouth of a corpse before burning. கூத்தரிசிகுற்றுகிறவீட்டிலேவாய்க்கரிசிக்குவழியி ல்லை. In a rice-pounding-house, there is not a handful for a corpse; those who have abundance have nothing to give. வாய்க்காசு, s. The money cast with rice upon a corpse. 2. Money given to a witness. வாய்க்காடிவார்த்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது. Being very sorrowful, (lit.) having vinegar poured into the mouth. வாய்க்கால், s. Water-course, நீரோடுங் கால். 2. (p.) The tenth lunar mansion, மகநாள். (சது.) வாய்காலுக்குப்போகிறது. Going to ease nature. வாய்க்குவழங்காமலிருக்கிறது. Being unpalatable. வாய்க்குள்ளேபேச, inf. To mumble, in mutter. வாய்க்குற்றம், s. A verbal mistake or error. வாய்க்கூடை--வாய்ப்புட்டில்--வாய்ப் பெட்டி, s. A small basket for muzzling a calf. வாய்க்கூலி, s. A bribe. வாய்க்கொழுப்பு, v. noun. Arrogance, insolence. வாய்க்கொழுப்புசீலையாலேவடிந்ததுபோலே. As one's insolence forced him to carry hot rice in a napkin. (Prov.) வாய்சலிக்கத்திட்ட, inf. To abuse till the mouth aches. வாய்ச்சம்பிரதாயம், s. Skilfulness in speaking, sometimes in reproach. 2. Oral tradition. See சம்பிரதாயம். வாய்ச்சாலகம், s. [improp. for வாசால கம்.] Talkativeness. வாய்ச்சொலவு, s. Prediction, augury. 2. An ominous speech. வாய்தடுமாற, inf. To make a verbal mistake. வாய்தாரை, s. Edge of a knife or other instrument, keenness of the edge, ஆயுதங்களின்கூர்மை. வாய்த்தவிடும்போதல். Even the bran is gone; i. e. nothing is left to eat. (பஞ்ச). வாய்த்தலை, s. A Channel of stone for conveying water. வாய்நீர், s. [com. வாணி.] Saliva, spittle. வாய்நீரூற, inf. To slaver. வாய்நீரொழுக, inf. To drivel, to drop sanva from the mouth. வாய்பாடு, v. noun. [in gram.] A model, a specimen; a symbolic term, for all roots of verbs, as செய். 2. A symbolic expression in any art or science, as barbara, celarent, &c. in Logic; spondee dactyl, &c. in Poetry. வாய்பிதற்ற--வாய்பினற்ற, inf. To speak without sense, or incoherently. வாய்புதைக்க--வாய்பொத்த, inf. To shut the mouth with the palm of the hand, as children in fear or wonder. வாய்பூச, inf. To wash the mouth. 2. To flatter, to speak smooth things. 3. TO bribe a superior. (Colloq.) வாய்போட, inf. To interrupt another when talking, or to interfere with others, by words. வாய்ப்பட்டி, s. A chattering woman. வாய்ப்பாடம், s. A lesson learnt by heart. வாய்ப்பானை, s. A babbling fellow. (R.) வாய்ப்பிரசங்கம், s. Oratory, extempore discourse. வாய்ப்பிறப்பு, s. A saying, a declaration. அவன்வாய்ப்பிறப்பைக்கேள். Hear his deposition. வாய்ப்புண்--வாய்க்கிரந்தி, s. Sore on the tongue or lips; an ulcered mouth. வாய்ப்பூட்டு, s. A lock for the mouth, a gag, used by anchorites. வாய்மட்டம், s. Level to the brim, even to the surface. 2. A process in making golden heads. வாய்மதம், s. Arrogant speech. வாய்மூட, inf. To shut one's mouth. See ஊர்வாய்மூட, under உலைமூடி. வாய்மூடு. Shut your mouth, stop speaking. வாய்மூத்தகுடி, s. A family excelling in talk. வாய்மூத்தவன், appel. n. A chief speaker. வாய்மோசம், s. A mistake, inadvertence in speech. வாய்வட்டம், s. A rope or halter to put round a horse's mouth, குதிரைவாய்க்க யிறு. (சது). வாய்வழங்க, inf. To eat, to use the mouth, உண்ண. 2. To speak, பேச. 3. To promise. பேசவாய்வழங்கவில்லை. The mouth, [tongue.] fails to speak--said of a dying man. வாய்விசேஷம், s. Speech, oral communication. 2. Report, செய்தி. வாய்விசேஷமாய்ச்சொன்னேன். I told him by word of mouth. வாய்விட, inf. To speak plainly. 2. To divulge a secret. அவன்வாய்விட்டழுதான். He wailed, cried aloud, like a child. அவள்வாய்விட்டதினாலேமோசமாயிற்று. Mischief came through her divulging the secret. வாய்விடல், v. noun. Yawning. (R.) வாய்விளங்கம், s. A medicinal seed. See வாயுவிளங்கம். வாய்விளிம்பு, s. The margin, or edge of a thing. வாய்வெட்ட, inf. To silence another. வாய்வெட்டுவெட்டுகிறவன். One who overcomes in argument. வாய்வெருவ, inf. [improp. வாய்பெரு வ.] To cry out in sleep from fear, night-mare, &c., as வாய்பினற்ற. வாய்வைக்க, inf.
