akkiṉi (p. 4) s. Fire, தீ. 2. The god of fire and regent of the south-east, அக்கி னிபகவான். (See திக்குபாலகர்.) 3. (M. Dic.) The plant செங்கொடிவேலி. There are reckoned different kinds of அக்கினி, (a.) ஆயுரு வேதாக்கினி, of three kinds, for preparing medicines, as கமலாக்கினி, காடாக்கினி, தீபாக் கினி, which see. (b) Three other kinds called வேதாக்கினி for sacrificial purposes, as, காருகபத்தியம், தக்கணாக்கினியம், ஆகவனீயம். See தீ. (c.) The fire which will consume the world, காலாக்கினி. Wils. p. 6. AGNI. அக்கினிகணம், s. The same as தீக்கணம், an inauspicious measure. See கணம். (p.) அக்கினிகர்ப்பம், s. A spark. 2. A crystal with fabulous qualities. 3. A decayed cuttle-fish bone, Os sepi&ae;, கட னுரை. அக்கினிகலை, s. Breath coming from the nostrils, in சரசாத்திரம். அக்கினிகோத்திரம், s. One of the twenty-one யாகம். 2. One of the princely races. அக்கினிக்கட்டு, s. Restraining the power of fire by magic. அக்கினிக்கண்ணன், s. A fiery man, one having a terrible countenance. அக்கினிசன்மன், s. One born of fire, Skanda. See அக்கினிபூ. அக்கினிசாந்தி, s. [in astrology.] Offerings to fire; this is done with ghee, plantains, cakes, &c., after repeating an incantation one hundred and eight times to avert evil from அக்கினிதேவன். These offerings are made particularly at the time of marriage and of doing penance. அக்கினிசாலம், s. Tricks or artifices made by the agency of fire. அக்கினிச்சிலம், s. A plant, Gloriosa superba, L., கார்த்திகைக்கிழங்கு. அக்கினிச்சேர்வை, s. [prov.] A blister-plaster. அக்கினிட்டோமம்--அக்கினிஷ் டோமம், s. One of the twenty-one யாகம். அக்கினித்தம்பம்--அக்கினிஸ்தம்பம், s. A pillar of fire. 2. Stopping the power of fire by magic. 3. One of the sixty-four கலைஞானம். அக்கினித்தம்பன், s. Siva as a column of fire. See தம்பம். அக்கினித்திரயம், s. The aggregate of the three fires maintained by the Brahmin householder, the Garhapatya, காருகபத்தியம், Dakshanagniyam, தட்சணாக் கினியம், and Ahavaneya, ஆகவனியம். See தீ. அக்கினித்திராவகம், s. Fire-water --such as nitric acid, &c. அக்கினிநாள்--அக்கினிநட்சத்திரம், s. [astrol.] An inauspicious nakshatra or day. There are three in a year, viz., when the sun is in the last quarter of the second nakshatra, பரணி, when in the 3d nakshatra, கார்த்திகை, and when in the 1st quarter of the 4th nakshatra, உரோகணி. அக்கினிபஞ்சகம், s. Danger of fire as an astrological result of the aggregate of five items. அக்கினிபயம், s. [in calendars.] Danger or fear of fire. அக்கினிப்பிரவேசம், s. Entering into or passing through fire, as a religious act. அக்கினிப்பிழம்பு, s. A body or flame of fire. அக்கினிப்பிளப்பு, s. A volcano, volcanic eruption. அக்கினிமண்டலம், s. The seat of fire in the system--the abdomen. அக்கினிமந்தம், s. Indigestion. அக்கினிமலை, s. A volcanic mountain. அக்கினிமிதிக்க, inf. To tread on fire, one of the thirty-two kinds of selftorture. அக்கினிமூலை, s. The south-east region. அக்கினியாதேயம், s. One of the twenty-one யாகம், sacrifices. அக்கினியாஸ்திரம், s. A kind of arrow, ஓரத்திரம், (c.) அக்கினியோகம், s. An inauspicious conjunction of the days of the week with the tithi திதி, as follows: 1. When the 5th or 11th tithi, Lunar day (திதி) occurs on Monday. 2. When the 5th tithi occurs on Wednesday. 3. When the 6th or 9th occurs on Thursday. 4. When the 8th or 1th occurs on Friday. 5. Great grief, envy, jealously, rage, fury, &c. நெருப்புநின்றகாட்டிலேதாவதிருந்தாலும்நீர்நின்றகா ட்டிலொன்றுமிராது. Though something may survive a forest conflagration, nothing will remain after a forest inundation; i. e. water is more destructive than fire. நெருப்பெழக்காய்ச்சினான். He heated it hot. பெருநெருப்புக்கீரமில்லை. A great fire is not put out by a little moisture. அவன்நெருப்பு. He is fiery man. வயிற்றிலேநெருப்பாயெரிகிறது. It burns as fire in my belly (heart); spoken of a bereavement, &c. 2. My hunger is very severe. 3. I have a burning sensation internally. காய்ச்சல்நெருப்பாயெரிக்கிறது. The fever rages like fire. நெருப்பணைத்துவைக்க, inf. To keep the fire from going out. 2. To put out the fire. நெருப்பணைந்துபோக, inf. To be quenched, extinguished as fire. நெருப்பன், s. [prov. fem. நெருப்பி.] An angry, malicious, dangerous man, an incendiary, கோபி. நெருப்பாறு, s. A river of fire, said to be in the north beyond Oude. 2. Lava from a volcano. நெருப்பிட, inf. To set on fire. நெருப்பின்சிகை, s. Flame of fire. நெருப்புக்கட்டை, s. A large fire-brand, a log of fire. நெருப்புக்கண், s. Envious eye. 2. The evil eye. 3. A fiery, malicious, furious eye. 4. Frontal eye of Siva, சிவனதுநெற்றிக்கண். நெருப்புக்கண்ணன், s. A malicious man. 2. An envious man. 3. A man with blighting eyes. 4. As அக்கினிக்கண் ணன். நெருப்புக்கல், s. Flint, தீத்தட்டிக்கல், 2. See under கல். நெருப்புக்காடு, s. A conflagration. See காடு. 2. [fig. in combin.] Vehement sunshine, கடுவெயில். 3. Intense anger, fury, rage. நெருப்புக்காடாயிருத்தல். Being in a conflagration. 2. Being very angry. நெருப்புக்கொளுத்த, inf. To kindle To do injustice, tyrannize. 3. To be very severe, as a master in anger giving reproof. 4. To be hot, as the sun. See கொளுத்து. நெருப்புக்கொள்ளி, s. A fire-brand, as கொள்ளி. 2. (fig.) An atrociously wicked man, துஷ்டன். நெருப்புச்சட்டி, s. A fire-pan, a vessel of coals. See தீச்சட்டி. நெருப்புச்சாணை, s. A kind of grindstone. See under சாணை. நெருப்புத்தணல், s. Live coals. நெருப்புத்தண்ணீர்--நெருப்புத்திராவ கம், s. [com. அக்கினித்திராவகம், which see.] Aqua fortis, or nitric acid. நெருப்புத்தூண், s. A column of fire. நெருப்புப்படுதல், v. noun. Being consumed with drought, கடுங்கோடையாதல். 2. (fig.) Suffering oppression, injury, &c., as a village, or country, from a ruler of head man, அமளியாதல். 3. Being destroyed by divine retribution, as the possessions of a wicked man, தேவதண்டனைஅடைதல். 4. Being destroyed, அழிவடைதல், the language of imprecation. நெருப்புப்பற்ற--நெருப்புப்பிடிக்க, To catch fire, ignite. 2. As தீப்பற்ற. நெருப்புப்பற்றவைக்க--நெருப்புமூட்ட --நெருப்புவளர்க்க, inf. To kindle a fire. See தீவளர்க்க. நெருப்புப்பொறி, s. Fire-spark. நெருப்புமணத்்தல், v. noun. Smell of fire; fumigation. நெருப்புமழை, s. A fiery rain, at the universal deluge of fire, from one of the seven classes of clouds. See முகில். நெருப்புமழைபெய்தல், v. noun. Raining fire. 2. (fig.) Acting unjustly, as a government, a head-man, &c., often used as a curse. நெருப்புமூள, inf. To be kindled as fire, to rage as fire. நெருப்புவிழுங்குகோழி--நெருப்புக்கோ ழி. s. An ostrich. See தீக்குருவி. 2. (Beschi.) A turkey-cock, from its red throat, வான்கோழிச்சேவல். நெருப்புவிழுதல், v. noun. Being destroyed by unjust means, or by drought and famine. 2. Falling or being struck out, as sparks from a grind-stone, a flint, &c. 3. Being discomfited, disheartened. 4. As தீவிழ. நெருப்புவீச, inf. To throw about fire, met. To be hasty in a new affair.
