arkku (p. 22) --கிறேன், அரக்கினேன், வேன், அரக்க, v. a. To waste or wear away by rubbing, அழிக்க. (பிங்.) 2. To mash with the palm of the hand or the sole of the foot by a wriggling motion, தேய்க்க. 3. [prov.] To push, drag, or otherwise move a heavy body, as the wooden frame of a house, இருப்புவிட்டுப் பெயர்க்க. 4. v. n. (c.) To move in a hitching or wriggling manner or by jerks, hitch along on a seat, crawl as a child or snake, hobble or walk with difficulty, waddle as one drunk, நெளிந்துநடக்க. அரக்கியரக்கிநடக்கிறான். He walks hitching along. அரக்கல், v. noun. The act of rubbing or grinding. 38) *

aḷḷu (p. 33) கிறேன், அள்ளினேன், வேன், அள்ள, v. a. To take up a handful, lade, bale, take up in the hollow of the hand-as water, sand, grain, &c., கையான்முகக்க. 2. To sweep away as a flood, carry off in large quantities or great numbers as an epidemic, famine, thief, &c., to ravage, plunder, pillage, spoil, devastate, வாரிக் கொள்ள. (c.) அள்ளாதுகுறையாது சொல்லாது பிறவாது. If nothing be taken, nothing will be wanting; if nothing be spoken, nothing will be rumored; i. e. there is no rumor however vague, but has some truth in it. அரிசியள்ளுகிறகாகம்போலே திரிகிறான். He wanders about as greedy (of gain) as the crow is of the rice which it steals. கையையள்ளிப்போட்டது. It has grazed or taken off the skin of my hand (whether a bow, hot iron, or any thing else.) அள்ளிக்கொட்ட, inf. To take up from a quantity and shoot down elsewhere. 2. To give liberally. அள்ளிருள், s. Thick darkness, or darkness so dense that it may be grasped. அள்ளுகொள்ளை, s. Great waste, profusion, extravagance or taking more than what is right, பெருங்கொள்ளை. அள்ளு, v. noun. A handful of grain, &c., given to the man who measures, அளவுகூலித்தானியம். அள்ளெடுக்கிறவன், s. The man who receives the handful of grain for measuring. அள்ளுதல், v. noun. Being narrow, close, நெருங்கல். 2. Taking up a handful of water, rice, grain, &c., getting water in a basket, pot, &c., taking out rice, milk, &c., by a spoon from a cup, &c., அள்ளுகை. 43)

aẕi (p. 32) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், அழிய, v. n. To decay, degenerate, perish, be corrupted, ruined, wasted, blighted, effaced, obliterated, abolished, demolished, annihilated, கெட. 2. To fail (as a promise), be frustrated as a hope, &c., be refuted, தவற. அழிகரு, s. Abortion, கருவழிவு. அழிகுட்டி, s. A miscarriage, an abortion applied chiefly to brutes--the casting of the young, வயிற்றில்மரித்தது. அழிந்தோரைநிறுத்தல், v. noun. One of the eight constituent parts of virtue, அறத்துறுப்பு. அழிபுண், s. A foul ulcer, ஆறாப் புண். (M. Dic.) அழிமதி, s. Waste, extravagance, malicious intention, கெடுபுத்தி. அழிமுதல், s. Waste of property, as of capital, principal, &c. முதலழிவு. அழிம்பு, s. [vul.] The nin-payment of a debt or the non-restoration of another's property from dishonest motives, புரட்டு. 2. Ruin, devastation, injury, damage, கேடு. என்னுடையமைக்கழிம்புபேசுகிறான். He talks of destroying my property. அழிம்புசெய்ய, inf. To damage a thing. 2. To debauch a woman. அழிம்பன், s. [vul.] A spendthrift, a profligate, ஊதாரி. 2. One who makes excuses for not paying debts, restoring property, &c., புரட்டன். அழியாதபத்தினி, s. A name of D'hurupary, the wife of the Pandu princes. அழியாமுதல், s. Property devoted or entailed in perpetuity to a temple or other charity, நிலையான ஆஸ்தி. 2. God, கடவுள். அழியாமை, neg. v. noun. Incorruption, immortality, imperishableness, கெடாமை. அழிவழக்கு, s. An unjust lawsuit, a groundless prosecution, a frivolous or groundless defence, a lost lawsuit, அநி யாயவழக்கு. கற்பழியாதபெண், s. A pure virgin. அழிகை, v. noun. Destruction, decay, ruin, சிதைவு. அழிவு, v. noun. Decay, injury, ruin, loss, desolation, the act of perishing. கேடு. 2. That which has perished of itself, கெட்டது. 3. Fault, immorality, (in a restricted sense,) deviation from rule, குற்றம். அன்றுகண்டமேனிக்கழிவில்லை. Just the same appearance as before. அழிவின்மை, neg. v. noun. Freedom from decay. அழிவுகாலம், s. The time of a universal deluge and destruction at the end of an age, யுகமுடிவு. கடையழிதல், v. noun. Suffering extremely. நிறையழிதல், v. noun. Being disheartened, dispirited, without hope. 7)

aẕi (p. 32) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To blight, blast, ruin, கெடுக்க. 2. To waste, injure, damage, பாழாக்க. 3. To abolish, consume, annihilate, destroy. demolish, exterminate, சங்கரிக்க. 4. To efface, obliterate, குலைக்க. 5. To refute an argument. கண்டிக்க. தேடாதழிக்கிற்பாடாய்முடியும். If you spend what you have not earned, you will suffer. (ஔவை.) கருவழித்திடலுநன்றே. It would be better to destroy the foetus, (to cause abortion.) வறிதினழித்திடார். They will waste nothing in vain. (காசிகரண்டம்.) அழிகட்டு, s. A fabrication either varbal or written to deprive another of his right, a forgery, (a law term), பொ ய்ச்சீட்டு. 2. An excuse, pretence, subterfuge, வீண்போக்கு. 3. Obstacle, impediment, hinderance, தடை. 4. Means used for counteracting magic, poison, &c. மாற்று. அழிச்சாட்டியம், s. Improper treatment, an unlawful or wicked proceeding. வாங்கின கடனைக்கொடாம லழிச்சாட்டியம் பண் ணிவருகிறான். He gives much trouble by delaying to pay the debt. அழிச்சாட்டியக்காரன், s. A turbulent fellow, a bully. அழிப்பு, v. noun. Destroying, ruining, wasting, consuming in an active sense, அழிக்கை. அழிப்பாளி, s. A spendthrift, squanderer, prodigal, profligate, ஊதாரி. 8)

avāntaram (p. 30) s. A void, vacuum, வெறுவெளி. 2. Interim, intermediate time or place, மத்தி; [ex அவ, et அந்தர, inner.] Wils. p. 83. AVANTARA. 3. A desolate or solitary state, உதவியின்மை. 4. To become antiquated, disused, obsolete, to fall into desuetude, பழமையாக. 4. To go, pass, pass by, proceed, pass--as time, to elapse, செல்ல. 5. To exceed, surpass in number, measure, degree. &c., அதிகரிக்க. 6. To pass over the limit, to transgress, trespass, கடக்க. காடகமிறந்தோர்கே. After him who is gone into the desert. எளிதெனவில்லிறப்பான். He who goes to his neighbor's wife considering it a light matter. இறந்தகாலம், s. Past time, past tense, செல்காலம். இறந்ததுவிலக்கல், s. The omission or exclusion of what is gone out of use--one of the thirty-two உத்தி. (நன்னூல்.) இறந்துபட, inf. To die. (p.) இறந்தோர், s. The dead, departed spirits, the manes, மரித்தோர். இறந்தோர்சேர்வனம், s. A cemetery, the place where the dead are deposited, whether burnt or buried. எண்ணிறந்த, rel. part. Innumerable. அளவிறந்த, rel. part. Beyond measure, immense. இறப்பு, v. noun. Death, dying, extinction, மரிப்பு. 2. Mouldering, decay, waste, அழிகை. 3. (p.) iṟai (p. 57) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To pour out, lave, irrigate, draw and pour out, நீரிறைக்க. 2. To cast forth. strew, scatter abroad, சிதற. 3. To give liberally, மிகக்கொடுக்க. 4. (Met.) To lavish, spend lavishly, squander, அளவுகடந்துசெல விட. 5. v. n. [vul.] To flow or issue--as blood, milk, &c., சொரிய. பணத்தையெங்குமிறைத்துப்போட்டான். He has squandered the money. இறைகூடை, s. A large basket for irrigation, நீரிறைக்குங்கூடை. இறைமரம், s. Three poles connected at the top, forming a support for a basket used in watering fields, இறை வைமரம். 2. A well-sweep and pole, ஏற்ற மரம். 3. [prov.] A long wooden boat suspended for watering fields, நீரிறைக்கு மரப்பத்தல். இறைப்பு, v. noun. Pouring or casting out, laving, irrigation, நீரிறைக்கை. 2. Scattering, lavishing, squandering, waste, profusion, வாரியிறைக்கை. இறைவை, s. Any contrivance for raising water for irrigation--as a well-basket, இறைகூடு. 2. īṟu (p. 58) s. End, termination, extremity, முடிவு. 2. Death, extermination, மரணம். 3. The gums, பல்லீறு. 4. (p.) Brackish land, உப்பளம். ஈற்றிலிப்படிமுடிந்தது. At last it has thus ended. பிள்ளைக்கீறிட்டிருக்கிறது. The child is teething. ஈறாந்தம், s. Final end, utmost limit, ஆகமுடிவு. ஈறிலான்--ஈறிலி, s. The Deity, he who has no end, கடவுள். (p.) ஈறுகரைய, inf. To waste away--as the gums. ஈறுகெடுதல், v. noun. The elision of a final letter or letters, ஈறழிதல். ஈற்றசை, s. An expletive at the end of a letter, word, &c., ஈற்றிலசையாய் வருமிடைச்சொல். ஈற்றயல், s. Penultimate, கடை யயல். ஈற்றெலும்பு, s. The Os sacrum or pelvis of a cow, கடையெலும்பு. ஈற்றெழுத்துக்கவிபாடல், v. noun. [prov.] An exercise in singing, in which after one has sung a verse, another must find out a verse beginning with one of the letters of the last word in that just sung, கூறியபாட்டின்கடையெழுத்தை முதலெழுத்தாகக்கொண்டகவிபாடல். 36)

ukku (p. 59) கிறது, உக்கினது, உக்கும், உக்க, v. n. To rot, decay, moulder, perish, உக் கிப்போக. 2. To dread, fear, பயப்பட. உக்கதலமணியுரகரரசற்கென்றால். If the king of serpents which inhabits the abyss be shocked-துக்கத்தினாலுக்கிப்போனான். He is wasted with grief, he is pining away. உக்கினமரம், s. A worm-eaten tree, or rotten timber. உக்கல், s. [vul.] Rottenness, putridity, பதனழிவு. 2. Any thing rotten or perished, உளுத்தது. 25)

uruḷ (p. 65) --உருளு, கிறது, உருண்டது, உருளும், உருள, v. n. To turn about as a wheel, or dice, to roll, bowl, trundle, tumble over and over, revolve on a plane, spin or whirl--as a thrown discus, at right angles with the horizon, புரள. 2. To become round, grow globular, திரள. 3. (c.) To perish, die in numbers--as in battle, by an epidemic, &c.; to waste--as wealth, &c.; to become extinct, be exterminated, அழிய. உருண்டுபோவாய். May you die. (An imprecation.) அவன்கூட்டமெல்லாமுருண்டுபோயிற்று. His whole circle is extinguished. காணாப்பிணமாயுருண்டுபோகிறது. To die unnoticed. கொள்ளைநோயிலநேகருருண்டுபோனார்கள். [vul.] Many were carried off by the pestilence. உருண்மணி, s. The polished or rounded gem. (பார.) உருளாதவிழுநிதியம், s. Inexhaustible splendid wealth. (அறநெறித்.) மணிமணியாயுருளல், v. noun. uraicu (p. 65) --உரைஞ்சு, கிறேன், உரை சினேன்--உரைஞ்சினேன், வேன், உரைச--உரைஞ் ச, (உரைஞ்சு, is a cor. of உரிஞ்சு,) v. n. To rub one's self against a thing, to rub as beasts against a post, &c., to chafe, உரிஞ. 2. To wear away by use--as the feet by walking, as a seat by sitting, &c., தேய. 3. v. a. To rub hard, scour, scrape, or scratch --as with the back of a nail, to brush, clean off, or waste away by rubbing, தேய்க்க. 4. To graze, gall, bruise by grazing, சீக்க. (பிங்க.) ஆனையுமானையுமுதுகுரைஞ்சஇடையிலிருந்தகொசுகு நசுங்குகிறது. When elephants rub against each other, gnats are crushed. 62) *

ul (p. 65) க்கிறது, ந்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To become reduced, wasted, lavished, spent in vain, கெட. 2. To perish, be ruined, injured, அழிய. 3. To die, pass away, சாக. 4. To terminate, or expire, as the enjoyments or sufferings resulting from the actions incident to prior existence, வினை யுலக்க. (p.) திட்பநாளுலந்ததன்றே. The day of power has expired. நாளுலந்தனன். He has passed (his) days. துப்புரவுசென்றுலந்தக்கால். If the enjoyment go on and terminate-- (நாலடி.) உலவாக்கிழி, s. Undiminishing (golden) treasure. உலக்கை--உலப்பு, v. noun. Injury, ruin, waste, கேடு. 2. Death, சாவு. உலப்பருமதத்தயானை. An undying elephant full of rut or fierceness. உலப்புற்றோர்காடதே. That is a desert where the dead are burnt. 78)

uẕu (p. 67) கிறேன், தேன், வேன், உழ, v. a. To plough, ஏருழ. 2. [with the impersonal terminations.] To root up--as pigs, நிலத்தைக்கிளைக்க. பன்றிநிலத்தையெல்லாமுழுதுபோட்டது. The hogs have ploughed up all the field. உழக்கோல், s. A goad used to drive oxen when ploughing. உழத்தி, s. (plu. உழத்தியர்.) A female of the ploughman caste. See உழவர். உழத்திப்பாட்டு, s. A kind of poem. See பள்ளு. உழுதகாடு, s. A ploughed highland. உழுதநிலம், s. Ploughed land. உழுதுண்போர், s. Those who cultivate fields belonging to others and subsist upon a share of the produce. 2. The fourth or Vellale caste, வேளாளர். உழுதுண்டுவாழ்வாரேவாழ்வார்மற்றெல்லாந்தொ ழுதுண்டுபின்செல்பவர். Those who till the ground enjoy plenty and happiness, the rest being followers and servants of the great depend on their assistance. (குறள்.) தொழுதூண்சுவையிலுழுதூணினிது. To cultivate ground and live by it is more satisfactory than to procure maintenance from others by serving them. உழுதுபுழுதியாக்க, inf. To plough and harrow, to waste. உழுபடை, s. A plough, கலப்பை; [ex படை, implements.] உழுவளைப்பு, s. The turnings in ploughing, தொழுப்பு. உழவு, v. noun. Ploughing, உழு கை. 2. (fig.) (p.) Agriculture, husbandry, tillage, பயிர்செய்யுந்தொழில். உழவின்மிகுத்தஊதியமில்லை. There is no occupation which yields greater profit than agriculture. உழவடைக்க, inf. To make over to another a piece of land for purposes of cultivation. உழவர்--உழவோர், s. Ploughmen, cultivators, agriculturists, husbandmen, inhabitants of agricultural districts, மருதநிலமாக்கள். 2. The fourth or Vellale caste, வேளாளர். 3. (p.) [ex உழப்பு.] Warriors, heroes, படைவீரர். உழவிடை, s. Cessation from ploughing. உழவீரம், s. Condition of the ground when it is sufficiently moist to be ploughed. உழவுகட்ட, inf. [prov.] To take the lead--as the first of several teams in ploughing, to mark the course, &c., முதற்சால்போக. உழவுகட்டி, s. Clods in a ploughed field, உழும்பொழுதுபெயருமண்கட்டி. உழவுகாலம், s. Ploughing season. உழவுகுண்டை--உழவுமாடு--உழ வெருது. Oxen trained to the plough. உழவுகோல், s. A ploughman's rod or staff, an ox goad, தாற்றுக்கோல். 2. A horse whip, குதிரைச்சம்மட்டி. உழவுகோல்கொண்டூர்ந்தனன். He drove (the horse) with a whip. உழவுசால், s. A furrow, படைச் சால். உழவுசெய்ய, inf. To plough, practise agriculture, உழ. உழவுத்தொழில், s. Ploughing, tillage, husbandry, பயிர்செய்யுந்தொழில். உழவுபொறுத்தமாடு, s. A powerful, well trained ox that works easily. உழவுமழை, s. Rain that falls in the ploughing and sowing season. உழுகை, v. noun. Ploughing, agriculture. உழுநர், s. Ploughmen, உழவர். 23)

ūṟu (p. 71) கிறது, ஊறினது, ம், ஊற, v. a. To spring, flow as water in a well, to issue, நீரூற. 2. To soak, to be steeped, pickled, காய்முதலியவூற. 3. To ooze through, percolate, filter, distil, கசிய. 4. To run or spread--as ink in paper, as dampness in land around a spring; to become moist, மைமுதலியவூற. 5. To form, become collected--as milk in the breast, toddy in palm flowers, &c., பால்முதலியனசுரக்க. 6. To form as raw flesh in a sore, to heal, காயத்திலூன்வளர. 7. To increase--as flesh in a person who has been wasted by disease, to increase by slow degrees, மெலி ந்தவுடல்தேற. (c.) தொட்டளைத்தூறுமணற்கேணிமாந்தர்க்குக் கற்றனைத் தூறுமறிவு. The more you dig in a sandy soil the more does the water spring forth; so the more you apply to science the more your knowledge will increase. கற்கவூறுங்கலைஞானம். By learning, knowledge is increased. இறைத்தகிணறூறும்இறையாக்கிணறூறாது. Water issues from the springs of a well constantly drawn, but from one not drawn, it ceases to do so; i. e. the more one gives, the more will be given to him. ஊறணி, s. A fountain, a spring of water, ஊற்று. 2. [prov.] Good, moist land where water oozes out, கசிவுநிலம். 3. Wet, marshy, or brackish lands, சேற்று நிலம். 4. Income, property stored up, வருவாய் (probably a corruption of ஊ றுநீர்). ஊறவூறக்கறக்க, inf. To milk the cow as fast as the milk forms. 2. To obtain money from a person as fast as he gets it. ஊறவைக்க, inf. To steep, pickle, imbue, macerate. ஊறுகாய், s. Pickled fruits, அடை காய். ஊறுநீர், s. Spring-water, ஊற்று நீர். ஊறுபுண், s. A healing wound, ஆறிவரும்புண். தேனூறுமலர், s. The honey forming flower. ஊறல், v. noun. Oozing as from a sore, &c., percolation, discharge, issue, ஊறுகை. 2. s. A small spring, springwater, ஊற்று. 3. A tincture, infusion, &c., மருந்திலூறல். 4. A taint, or faint mixture of another metal, பஞ்சலோகக்கலப்பு. 5. One's income acquisition, property amassed, &c., வருவாய். 6. A slight degree of verdigris, களிம்பு. ஊறற்பாக்கு, s. Betel-put soaked to render it fit for use. ஊறற்றாள், s. Sinking paper.
