angkiṭuttti (p. 5) --அங்கிடுதுடுப்பன், s. One who frequently changes his party or place, நாடோடி. 2. One of fickle or vagrant habits, as to dwelling or otherwise, நிலைகெட்டவன். (c.) 30) *

aṭai (p. 8) s. Resort, attaining to, அ டுத்தல். 2. A kind of cake, wafer, ஓர்பணிகா ரம். 3. Cake or bread in general அப்பவருக் கம். 4. Incubation, அவயம். 5. A leaf, இலை. 6. Gravity, weight, கனம். 7. A slight support or prop, தாங்கி. 8. [in grammar.] A prefix, qualifying word, or clause, adjunct, accompaniment, அடைமொழி. In this meaning it includes உரிச்சொல் or adjectives and adverbs. (p.) 9. A pledge, கொதுவை. 1. Tribute, the king's proportion of the produce of the land whether one-sixth or one-tenth, or otherwise, நிலவிறை. (c.) அடைகாக்க--அடைகிடக்க, inf. To sit on eggs, incubate. அடைகாய், s. Betel and areca nut. அடைகொடுக்க, inf. To render the kings's share of the produce. அடைகோழி, s. A hen that sits on eggs. அடைக்காய், s. Areca nut. அடைக்குத்தகை, s. [prov.] Revenue from grain as farmed out by government. அடைச்சீட்டு, s. [prov.] Receipt for the payment of tithe or tax. அடைப்பை, s. A betel pouch, வெற் றிலைப்பை. அடைப்பைக்காரன், s. The servant who carries the betel pouch, &c. of a great person. அடையடுத்தவாகுபெயர், s. A species of metonymy, as, மருக்கொழுந்துநட் டான், he planted a twig of the absinthium, that is, the plant itself. 19)

aṭṭam (p. 9) adv. Cross-wise, across, குறுக்கு. 2. s. [prov.] Side, vicinity, பக்கம். அட்டங்கால், s. Sitting crosslegged. 5) *

atītam (p. 11) s. Exaltedness, pre-eminence, that which excels or goes beyond, எட்டாதது. 2. That which is beyond reach, exceeding the power of human comprehension, கடந்தது. 3. An attribute of the Deity, கடவுளதோர்தன்மை. (p.) மனோவாக்குக்கதீதமாக. In an incomprehensible and ineflable manner. அதீதப்பிரமம், s. The Deity as beyond human comprehension. அதீதர், s. The celestials, வானோர். 2. Ascetics, wise men who by their austerities have obtained great eminence, முனிவர். அதீதாவஸ்தை, s. The state of the soul abstracted from sensible objects by meditation, insensibility, துரியாதீதம்.

apayam (p. 16) s. [priv. அ.] Fearlessness, intrepidity, அச்சமின்மை. Wils. p. 52. AB'HAYA. 2. An appeal, ஓலம். 3. (fig.) A place of refuge, shelter, அடைக்கலம். (p.) அபயமென்றடைந்தோர். Those who have applied for protection. அபயகரம்--அபயாஸ்தம்--அபயாத் தம், s. The right hand of a deity, idol or great person raised in token of dispelling fear and in assurance of protection, பயந்தீரவமைக்குங்கை. அபயங்கொடுக்க--அபயஸ்தங்கொ டுக்க, inf. To dispel fear, cheer, encourage, dispel fear by raising the hand or otherwise, to give assurance of protection. See கொடு, v. அபயமிட, inf. To call for succor, cry for protection, appeal as in a suit. See இடு. அபயர், s. Warriors, veterans, போர்வீரர். (p.) அபயவாக்கு, s. Assurance (given) of protection, encouragement, அஞ்சாதே யெனுஞ்சொல். அபயன், s. One who removes fear, அச்சமறுப்போன். 2. The Supreme Being, கடவுள். 3. A warrior, hero, வீரன். 4. A king of the Solar dynasty, சோழன். (p.) 12)

To honor, esteem highly, மெச்ச. 2. To regard, love, respect, கனம்பண்ண. 3. To prize, value, appreciate, take great care of, glory in, boast of, மதிக்க. உப. 124. சத. 55.) 16) *

ayl (p. 22) s. Neighborhood, nearness, adjacency, that which is next in place, அருகிடம். 2. Place, இடம். 3. What is outward, or foreign, அன்னியமானது. அயலகத்தார்--அயலவர்--அயலார் --அயலோர், s. Neighbors, those at hand. 2. Strangers, பிறர், persons not of the same family. அயலுதவி--அயற்றுணை, s. A neighbor or neighbors, regarded as a help by night or otherwise. அயல்வீடு, s. The senses as the medium of knowledge or knowledge acquired by them, பொறியுணர்வு. 5. Instruction, advice, போதனை. (c.) அறிவழி, s. Toddy or other inebriating liquor, கள். 2. A devil, பிசா சம்; [ex அழி, to ruin.] (p.) அறிவழிய, inf. To lose one's reason, be bereft or sense, be under a delusion, be infatuated. அறிவறை, s. One destitute of spiritual knowledge. 2. A wise, skilful or intelligent person. அறிவிலான்--அறிவிலி--அறிவில் லான்--அறிவீனன், s. An ignorant person, one without spiritual knowledge. அறிவில்லாமை--அறிவின்மை--அ றிவீனம், neg. v. noun. Ignorance. அறிவுகொடுக்க--அறிவுகொளுத்த, inf. To impart instruction, teach, instruct. 2. To allow a lucid interval, as to a dying person after a season of stupor, delirium, &c. அறிவுகொடுத்துக் கொல்லும். (Death, disease, &c.) will allow a lucid interval and then kill (him.) அறிவுசொல்ல, inf. To communicate instruction, give good advice, exhort. அறிவுடைமை, v. noun. Knowledge, the possession of knowledge. அறிவுணர்த்த--அறிவுபயிற்ற--அறி வுறுத்த, inf. To instruct, communicate instruction. அறிவுதிக்க, inf. To dawn as wisdom. அறிவுபிறக்க, inf. To dawn as knowledge in the mind, to become instructed, enlightened, informed. 2. To be restored as the senses, consciousness, &c. அறிவுப்பயிற்சி, s. Education. அறிவுமயக்கம், s. Loss of consciousness. அறிவுமயங்க, inf. To faint, lose consciousness either by swooning, fits, sleep, or the approach of death, &c. 2. To be surprised. அறிவுள்ளவன், s. A wise or skilful person. 2. āṉṟl (p. 44) . An irregular defective noun. 1. Extension, width, breadth, being extensive, அகலம். 2. Greatness, vastness, dignity, being great, மாட்சிமை. 3. Abundance, copiousness, luxuriance, மிகுதி; [ex அகலல், extending.] (p.) ஆன்றகுணம், s. The highest quality. ஆன்றபுவி, s. The extended earth. ஆன்றவர்--ஆன்றார்--ஆன்றோர், s. Learned persons, the wise, poets, the great--as sages, &c., those who are great in moral excellence, சான்றோர். ஆன்றார்கேட்கிற்செவிபுதைக்கும்.
