aṟu (p. 33) கிறது, ந்தது, ம், அற, v. n. To be parted, detached, separated; to break as a rope, அறுபட. 2. To cease, become extinct, perish, end, vanish, அழிய. 3. To be decided, ended, தீர. (c.) அற, inf. [used adverbially.] With a verb it expresses; 1. Wholly, entirely, quite, முழுதும். 2. Intensely, excessively, மிகவும். 3. Negation, being without, as குற்றமற, without fault. அறச்செட்டுமுழுநஷ்டம். Selling things too dearly will cause entire loss; i. e. avarice causes loss. அறப்படித்தான். He has learnt all perfectly. எழுத்தறவாசி. Read with distinct articulation. அறக்கட்ட, inf. To tie tightly, இறுகக்கட்ட. 2. To monopolize, ஒருமிக்கக் கொள்ள. அறக்காய, inf. To be over-dried, over-boiled, over-heated. அறக்கூட்ட, inf. To sweep clean or thoroughly. அறக்கூர்மை, s. Excessive sharpness as of a writing style. அறச்சிவப்பு, s. Deep red, extremely red. அறச்சிறியது, appel. n. The smallest. அறப்பாடல், v. noun. [commonly, அறம்பாடல்.] Composing poetry containing imprecations or spells.--Note. Verses of this kind are supposed sometimes to be made without design, and thus to injure the maker and others. அறப்பார்க்க, inf. To examine thoroughly, sift. 2. To take measures to defeat, ruin or injure one by defamation. அறமிகுந்தால், v. part. At most, at the utmost, by any means, with the greatest effort. அறமிகுந்துவந்தாலும்வரட்டும். If it must come (if no effort will avert it) let it come. அறவிளக்க, inf. To polish thoroughly. அறவூத--அறவைக்க, inf. To refine metals by fire, புடமிட. அறாவிலை, s. An exorbitant price. அறுகுறை, s. A headless body, கவந்தம். அறுந்தருணம், s. Emergency, exigency. அறுந்தொகை, s. A sum, number, &c. in dividing, in which there is no remainder. அறுவாய், s. The parting made in sawing a piece of timber. 2. The opening of a cut or wound. 3. A junction, a conjunction of two periods of time, extremity, end. 4. Deficiency, what is wanted to complete a whole; [ex அறு, parted, et வாய், opening.] அறுவாய்நிறைந்தவயிர்மதி. The bright moon whose waning is restored. அற்றறுதி, s. A complete end, entire ruin. அற்றறுதிபற்றறுதியாய்விட்டது. All communion is withdrawn. அற்றான், s. A poor man, தரித் திரன், 2. A sage, முனிவன். அற்றுப்போக, inf. To be lost, to cease to be. தடையற, inf. [used adverbially.] Without impediment. அறவு, v. noun. Cessation, ceasing, extinction. 2. Parting, separation, breach. அறவுளி, s. Incantations performed over a sick person in order to restore him. 2. Cessation, end, முடிவு. அறுதல், v. noun. Finishing, liquidating a debt. 2. s. A broken thread, string, rope, bandage, &c. அறுந்திருப்பது. 3. A mean, despicable or faulty person, உதவாதவன் அந்த அறுதலையிங்கேவரவிடலாகாது, You must not allow that vagabond to be here. தாம்புமறுதல் தோண்டியும்பொத்தல். A broken rope and a leaky water-pot. அறுதலி, s. A widow, கைம்பெ ண்; [ex அறுதல், being plucked off (the marriage jewel), et இ, fem. termination; or அறு, torn off, et தலி, contracted from தாலி, the badge of marriage.] அறுதலிமகனுக்கங்கமெல்லாஞ்சேஷ்டை. The son of a widow is mischievous throughout his whole frame. அறுதி, v. noun. End, close, termination, முடிவு. 2. Decision, decisiveness, determination--as a decisive sale, entire renunciation of a title to landed property, தீர்ப்பு. 3. s. The purchaser's possession or title to property purchased, விற்கிரயச்சீட்டு. 4. Absence, non-existence, இல்லாமை. 5. Death, சாவு. அறுதியாய்ப்போயிற்று. It is settled, completed, ended. அறுதியிட்டுச்சொன்னான். He spoke decisively. நமக்குக்கிடைத்தது நமக்கறுதி. Thus much is realized and we shall not have to part with it. அந்தப்பழக்கத்தையறுதியாய்விட்டுவிட்டேன். I have relinquished that custom entirely. அறுதிக்கரை, s. The proper and just division or distribution of land. அறுதிச்சாதனம்--அறுதியுறுதி, s. A deed of transfer, அறுதிச்சீட்டு. அறுதிச்சொல், s. A decisive word or sentence. அறுதிப்பங்கு, s. What is given in full of all demands, a final allotment. அறுதிப்பாடு, s. Being accomplished, finished, decided. அறுதியிட, inf. To determine, to point a day, &c. 55)

il (p. 55) . A form of the fifth case, (see இன்), ஐந்தனுருபு, which denotes. 1. Removal, withdrawal, நீங்கல். (a) Literally --as தமரிற்றீர்ந்தான், he has left his relations, i. e. for ascetic life. (b) (fig.) In which it expresses speciality, disparity, &c., and includes the comparative degree --as அரசரிற்பெரியரந்தணர், the Brahman caste is superior to the royal. 2. Similitude, ஒப்பு--as திறல்வேனுதியிற்பூத்தகேணி. A tank whose flowers resemble the points of mighty lances. 3. The bearing of a place, எல்லை--as கருவூரில்வடக்கு, north of Caroor.--Note. This form of the fifth case is peculiar to the poetic dialect. 4. The primitive cause, ஏது--as பொன்னிற் செய்தமுடி, a crown made of gold. 24)

klai (p. 96) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. n. To disperse--as an assembly, a defeated army, a herd pursued by dogs--as birds, clouds, &c.; to become separated from a company, &c.; to decamp, withdraw, quit, desert, குலைய. 2. To jar, to be discordant--as a noise, musical string or instrument, இராகமயங்க. 3. To be frustrated, to fail in accomplishment, எண்ணங்கலைய. 4. To slide from one tune into another by mistake, to go out of tune--as an instrument, இராகங்கலைய. மனவெண்ணங்கலைந்துபோக, inf. To be absent in mind. 2. To be dis tracted, disturbed, &c.--as the mental powers. கலைவு, v. noun. Dispersion, scattering, disorder, being broken up, குலைவு. 2. Seperation, பிரிவு. 273)

kiruttiyam (p. 111) s. Act, actions, performances, operation, தொழில். 2. Moral actions good or bad, involving future retributions, கன்மக்கிரியை. 3. A course of conduct, நடக்கை. 4. Work, business, employment, லௌகிகவேலை. 5. Religious rules, prescribed duties, கடமை. 6. Rites, ceremonies, &c., religious acts or practice, சடங்கு. 7. The operations of the deity--popularity in the characters of creator, preserver and destroyer; but in the mystic parts of the Agama system, the works of obscuring and enlightening the soul are superadded. Wils. p. 243. KRUTYA. தன்கிருத்தியந்தான்பார்க்கவேண்டும். Each one must perform his appropriate duties, personal, social, relative, civil, &c. கிருத்தியகர்த்தா, s. An operating deity, or a god who performs either of the five great operations in the universe. கிருத்தியகர்த்தாக்கள், s. (pl.) Agents who carry on operations in the universe; also, those of the விஞ்ஞானகலர் and பிர ளயாகலர் class of souls that have advanced so as to be cleansed from மலம், and permitted to be operative. கிருத்தியப்பிழை, s. Misdeeds, misbehaviour. 2. Failure or transgression in the performance of prescribed rites, ceremonies or other duties. கிருத்தியமில்லாதவன், s. One who does not practise the rites of the religion. ஒருகிருத்தியமுமில்லாதவன். One unemployed. கிருத்தியமுடிக்க, inf. To perform prescribed duties--as religious rites, ceremonies, &c. கிருத்தியம்பண்ண--கிருத்தியம்நடத்த inf. To perform the works of creation, &c..--as a deity, ஐந்தொழில்செய்ய. The direct object of this work is fancied to be; 1. To cleanse the soul from its moral defilements. 2. To cause it to experience the fruit of former actions. 3. To give it a temporary rest. 4. To produce an equilibrium between the good and evil actions of the soul. 5. To emancipate it from the பாசம் entanglements. (சிவ. சி.) 2. To perform works, rites, &c., சடங்குசெய்ய. 3. To perform the duties of one's calling, தொழில்செய்ய. 4. To perform the funeral rites for a deceased ancestor, உத்தரகிரியைசெய்ய. பஞ்சகிருத்தியம், s. The five operations of deity under various names, forms and modifications, viz.: 1st. சிருட்டி or படை த்தல், the work of creating or transforming matter, evolving it from the primitive Maya, producing words, furnishing the soul with its appropriate body, according to its actions in a previous birth, &c. In the popular system, this office is ascribed to Brahma. 2d.திதி or காத்தல், the work of preserving, usually ascribed to Vishnu. 3d. சங்காரம் or அழித்தல், the work of destroying, or of reducing the universe to the primitive Maya, through numerous involutions, --as earth into water, water into fire, &c. This office is ascribed to உருத்தி ரன், who by his worshippers is identified with Siva whom they consider supreme. 4th. திரோபவம் or மறைத்தல், the work of obscuration, or the veiling of the soul in moral darkness, and beclouding the understanding, so that the divine being cannot be perceived, while the mind attracted and illuded by visible and sensual objects, is excited to the performance of new actions, by which absolute liberation from பாசம் entanglements is prevented, and connection with Maya and its consequent transmigrations--except where the sanchita (சஞ்சிதம்) of former births is exhausted --is indefinitely prolonged. This is ascribed to மயேச்சுரன். 5th. அனுக்கிரகம் or அருளல், this is a work of benevolence as exerted for the benefit of the soul in furnishing it with appropriate bodies by which to expiate the guilt of former actions, though obscuring it with திரோ பவம், while it is thus working itself clear, at length withdrawing the veil and showing it that all visible and sensual objects are illusory and deceptive; also annihilating the passions and exciting disgust toward the objects of sense, and utter indifference to all mundane affairs, and thus causing entire cessation from physical and moral actions, and maturing it for final emancipation, and union with the Supreme. It is ascribed to சதாசிவம். சமுசாரகிருத்தியம், s. Domestic affairs, household business. 10) *

cāṭai (p. 174) s. [vul.] Allusion, reference, a hint by word, gesture, look, &c., a beckon, a wink; an indication, aspect, expression or cast of countenance, சமிக்கை. 2. Tales told of one secretly; true, or false insinuation, கோள். 3. Inclination, tendency in color, taste, smell, quality, temper, &c., சாய்வு. 4. Similarity in features, manners, dress, language, &c., ஒப்பு. 5. Connivance, தாட்சணியம். 6. Appearance, probability, likelihood, குறிப்பு. 7. A little, slightness, அற்பம். (c.) சாடைகாட்ட, inf. To give a hint, a wink, &c. 2. To show or act a character, to present in lively colors. சாடைக்காரன், s. A tale-bearer, an informer, கோட்காரன். சாடைசொல்ல, inf. To tell tales of; to inform or insinuate against. சாடைபண்ண, inf. To be patient or lenient in passing a sentence; inflicting a punishment, &c. 2. To make gestures. சாடைமூட்ட, inf. [prov.] To sow discord, stir up strife, &c., by insinuations, &c. (c.) சாடைமோடை, s. Formality, external show. 2. A trifling or slight result. சாடையறிய, inf. To know one's aim, object, or wishes, by his looks, and gestures. சாடையாயுப்புக்கூட்ட, inf. To add a little salt; commonly in diet. சாடையாய்ப்பேச, inf. To give an intimation, to allude to. சாடையாயெழுத, inf. To write reservedly. சாடையாய்ப்போய்விட, inf. To come to a frivolous result, to prove to be a slight or trifling matter. 2. To steal or slip away from company, &c. சாடையாய்விலக, inf. To withdraw privily or slyly. சாடையானசிவப்பு, s. A faint red. இதுமண்சாடையாயிருக்கிறது. This appears like earth. அவர்வந்தசாடையில்லை. There is no appearance of his having come. தமையனுந்தம்பியுமொருசாடை. The two brothers are much alike. 67) *

tā (p. 232) தருகிறேன், தந்தேன், தருவேன், தர, v. a. To give as equals, ஒப்போனுக்குத்்தர. 2. To give, in general not to a third person, கொடுக்க. 3. To grant, to bestow, அருள. 4. To yield, produce, bring forth, கனி கொடுக்க. 5. To apportion, distribute, allot, assign, appropriate, பகிர்ந்துகொடுக்க. 6. To convey a meaning, to mean, as words, பயன் தர. 7. To create, make; to form, construct, படைக்க. 8. To beget, generate, procreate, மகவைப்பெற. 9. To produce, as an author, நூல்செய்ய. 1. To impart, to furnish, to supply, சேகரிக்க. 11. To emit, to give out, ஊற. --Note. தரல், in poetry is, as an auxiliary, joined to the root of other verbs--as புறந்்தரல், turning the back before an enemy, &c., எழுதரல், for எழுந்திருத்தல், rising up, போதரல், for போதல், going; பின் றரல் for பின்றல், withdrawing, retiring. தருகிறவன்ஒருவன்இருக்கிறான். There is one providing God. தந்தவன், appel. n. A father. (p.) தருமதி, s. [prov.] A due, in money, goods, &c., commonly a balance or remainder. 4) *

pintu (p. 315) கிறேன், பிந்தினேன், வேன், பிந்த, v. n. [poet. பின்று.] To go behind, to be behind, to fall in the rear, to go down in a class; to withdraw, retreat, retire, பின் னிட--oppos. to முந்து. 2. To happen afterwards, to be subsequent in time, birth or origin, to be below in rank, be inferior, பின்போக. 3. To be backward, tardy, slow; to loiter, linger, delay; to lag, to lose time --as a clock or watch, விரைவுகுறைய. (c.) பிந்திவருவதைநினை. Consider what will happen hereafter. பிந்திப்போக, inf.
