The mode of using the hands in dancing which are of twenty-three kinds, viz.: 1. பதாகை, stretching all the five fingers keeping them close and straight. 2. திரிபதாகை, bending the thumb and ring-finger and stretching the rest. 3. பிறை, keeping the other four fingers close together separately from the thumb. 4. சர்ப்பசிரம், keeping the palm of the hand curved. 5. சாளையம், bending the little finger and ring-finger and stretching the rest. 6. மான்றலை, keeping the middle three fing ers down and lifting the other two up. 7. பதுமகோசரம், keeping up the palm of the hand opened having the fingers bent. 8. சிலீமுகம், keeping the tip of the forefinger at the bottom of the thumb and the tips of each of the rest at the middle of the adjoining finger. 9. முட்டி, folding all the four fingers and keeping the thumb above the middle finger. 1. சிக ரம், folding all the other fingers and keeping the thumb stretched. 11. சூசி, stretching the pointing finger and keeping the thumb curved while the others are folded. 12. கபித்தம், keeping the tips of the thumb and fore-finger close together and the other folded. 13. கடகம், keeping the tips of the thumb and forefinger together, the middle finger bent and the rest stretched. 14. சந்தங்கிஷம், keeping the tips of the thumb and pointing finger together, stretching the rest. 15. அஞ்சவாய், keeping the ringfinger and little finger separately stretched up and keeping the tips of the rest together. 16. முகிழ், keeping the tips of all the fingers together. 17. திரிலிங்கம், keeping the tips of the thumb and pointing finger together, the rest curved and the wrist a little bent. 18. மிருகசிரம், stretching up the pointing finger and the little finger and keeping the rest close together. 19. சிங்கநகம், keeping up the palm of the hand having the fingers almost folded. 2. கூர்மம், stretching up the middle finger while the others are bent down. 21. பூரணம், stretching all the five fingers straight not being close together. 22. மென்னிலை, bending the thumb and stretching up the rest. 23. முன்னதம், separating the fore-finger from the rest. கரவாளம், s. A sword, கைவாள். கராசலம், s. An elephant--as having a mountain (its body) connected with its trunk, யானை. கராசனம், s. A tiger, as resting on its paws, புலி. 83)
காரி
kāri (p. 104) s. Blackness, கறுப்பு. 2. A kind of black bird. (See கரிக்குருவி.) 3. A crow, காக்கை. 4. The planet Saturn, சனி. 5. Venom, poison, நஞ்சு. 6. Indra, இந்திரன். 7. Eiyanar, ஐயனார். 8. Bhairava, வயிரவன். 9. Worn-out, brackish land, களர்நிலம். 1. A parrot, கிளி. 11. One of the seven men of the third class of liberal kings, கடையேழு வள்ளலிலொருவன். 12. A workshop, தொழில் செய்யிடம். 13. The name of a shrub, ஆவிரை, Cassia auriculata, L. (M. Dic.] 14. As a feminine termination of certain nouns, காரி means a doer, owner, &c.--as வேலைக் காரி, a female servant. காரிதாய, s. பட்டடை
pṭṭṭai (p. 291) s. A stock, heap; pile of straw, firewood or timber, குவியல். 2. The anvil of a black-smith, gold-smith, &c., அடைகல். 3. A black-smith's or other vise, அடைகுறடு. 4. A mechanic's shop with its various implements, கம்மியர்கராக சாலையும், கருவியும். 5. Any thing held against another, as a support in driving a nail, தாங்குகருவி. 6. A corn-rick, or enclosure of straw, &c., for grain, தானியஉறை. 7. A layer or bed of olas, to place things on, தானியப்படுக்கை. 8. A frame of timbers to place under a dhoney when ashore, to keep it from the ground, தோணிதாங்கி. 9. A support for the head, in place of a pillow, தலைதாங்கி. 1. A support, or prop to keep a thing from falling or moving, தாபரம். 11. An ornament for the neck, கழுத்தணி. 12. A piece of board temporarily used as a seat, தாங்குபலகை. பட்டடைவாய்த்தால்பணிவாய்க்கும். If the anvil be obtained, the work will be done. பட்டடைகட்ட, inf. To store up grain in an enclosure of straw. 2. To set a prop or support. 3. To erect a workshop. 4. To steal. பட்டடைகாக்க, inf. To watch the cornstack. பட்டடைக்கழனி, s. A cultivated field. பட்டடைக்குத்தண்ணீர் இறைக்க, inf. To raise water for irrigation. பட்டடைமணை, s. A work-bench. பட்டடையார், s. [hon.] The master of a shop. 2. An overseer. பலபட்டடை, s. [com. பலபட்டறை.] The residence of people of several tribes. See சாதி. 122) *
