kṭumai (p. 88) s. Severity, harshness, cruelty, hard-heartedness, அகோரம். 2. Rigor, strictness, asperity, rigidness, earnestness, zealousness, கண்டிப்பு. 3. Vehemence, impetuosity, forcibleness, furiousness, மூர்க்கம். 4. Rapidity, speed, haste, velocity, விரைவு. 5. Hardness, tenacity, firmness, roughness, ruggedness, கடினம். 6. Excessiveness, intensity, immoderateness, vastness, exorbitancy, flagrancy, atrocity, malignity, heinousness, desperateness, மி குதி. 7. Ferocity, savageness, furiousness, violence, கோபம். 8. Strength, powerfulness, வன்மை. 9. Cutting in language, offensiveness, satiricalness, injuriousness, குரூரம். The leading character of this word in its different meanings is intensity. (See கொடுமை.) From this word id derived the symbolic verb கடிது. (3d person sing.) It is severe, &c., with any of the meanings of கடுமை. கடிசு, v. noun. Being too perpendicular, too little bent-- as a hoe, adze, &c., to the handle, or a plough-share to the shaft, நிமிர்வு--opp. to தணிசு. கடிச்சை, s. Niggardliness, உலோ பகுணம். கடிச்சைக்காரன், s. A niggard, a penurious man. கடியது, the neuter appellative.) That which is severe. கடியமோசம், s. Imminent danger. கடியவார்த்தை, s. Hard or angry words, offensive terms or language. கடியன், s. A severe, cruel man. கடுங்கணாளர், s. Cruel, savage, barbarous persons, கொடியோர். கடுங்கண், s. Cruelty, severity, barbarousness, unmercifulness, கொடுமை. 2. [prov.] The scallop of a palmyra leaf in a கோலுபட்டை, cut too closely, ஒலைக்கண். கடுங்கருத்து, s. Abstruse idea, farfetched unnatural meaning, கடமையானக ருத்து. கடுங்காய், s. [prov.] Unripe fruit, பழாதகாய். கடுங்காய்நுங்கு, s. Palmyra fruit, the kernel or pulp of which is too far advanced to be eatable, முதிர்ந்தநுங்கு. கடுங்காய்ச்சல், s. Violent fever, மிகுசுரம். 2. v. noun. Being over-heated-as by the smith, அதிககாய்ச்சல். 3. Being dried or scorched much in the sun, வெ யிலிலதிகமாய்க்காய்தல். கடுங்காய்ச்சலாக்காய்ந்துபோயிற்று. (The corn, &c.), is all scorched (not irrecoverably) by the sun and want of water, rain, &c. கடுங்காரநீர், s. An egg, முட்டை. கடுங்காரம், s. A powerful caustic, ஓர்வகையெரிமருந்து. 2. Sea salt, கடலுப்பு. கடுங்கூர்மைலவணம், s. Salt from urine, அமரியுப்பு. கடுங்கோடை, s. A severe drought, முதிர்வேனில். கடுங்கோபம், s. Violent anger. கடுஞ்சினப்பூமி--கடுந்தழற்பூமி, s. Alkaline earth, lixivium, உழமண். கடுஞ்சினேகம், s. Very close friendship, too great intimacy, அதிகசினேகம். கடுஞ்சினேகங்கண்ணுக்குப்பகை. Too great intimacy is productive of evil. கடுஞ்சுண்ணத்தி, s. Alum, சீனக் காரம். கடுஞ்சூடு, s. Great heat, அதிகசூடு. கடுஞ்செட்டு, s. Unfair traffic, trading at an exorbitant profit. கடுஞ்செய்கை, s. A cruel or wicked deed, கொடியகிரியை. கடுஞ்சொல், s. A severe word, a harsh expression, a reprimand, கொடுஞ் சொல். கடுதலைமுடிச்சு, s. [prov. prop. க டைதலைமுடிச்சு.] A treacherous contrivance, perfidy. கடுநடை, s. A tiresome walk, hard walking, a hard walk. கடுநெருப்பு, s. A fierce fire, a fire too large or too powerful for the occasion--as for culinary or chemical purposes. கடுந்தரை, s. Hard soil, வன்னிலம். கடுந்தோயல்--கடுந்தோய்ச்சல், v. noun. Over-tempering a weapon, &c., முதிர்ந்ததோயல். கடுமத்தியானம்--கடும்பகல், s. The intense heat of mid-day. கடுமுள், s. குருடு
kuruṭu (p. 126) s. Blindness, பார்வையில்லா மை. 2. Dimness (in gems); opacity, obscurity, காந்தியில்லாமை. 3. The worst side of a thing, cloth, &c., the unpolished, undressed, unfinished side, குருட்டுப்பக்கம். 4. A blind or ignorant fellow (in contempt), புத்தியீனன். குருட்டுநாட்டுக்கொள்ளி. A fire-brand in a country of blind people; i. e. a light among the illiterate. குருட்டுப்பூனைவிட்டத்திற்பாய்ந்தாற்போல. As a blind cat attempted to jump at the beam. குருட்டுமாட்டைத்தெய்வங்காக்கிறது--மேய்க்கிறது. The deity tends the blind cow. கோல்எடுத்தபிள்ளைகுருட்டுப்பிள்ளை. That child playing with the sticks is a blind child; i. e. is likely to hurt itself. குருடன், s. A blind person. 2. A name of Venus; lit. the squint-eyed, சுக்கிரன். (சது.) 3. Dhrutarashtra--as congenitally blind, திருதராட்டிரன். குருடன்பெண்டிரைஅடித்தாற்போல. Like the blind man striking his wife; i. e. attempting, but hitting another object. குருடாக்க, inf. To blind; to stupefy. குருடி, s. A blind female, கண்ணில் லாள். குருட்டுக்கண், s. Blind eye. 2. Blindness of the sight. பிறவிக்குருடன், s. A person born blind. மனக்குருடு, s. Mental blindness; ignorance, illusion. குருட்டாட்டம்--குருட்டுத்தனம், s.. Blindness; absence of mind, infatuation. குருட்டாட்டமாடுகிறான். He plays blindman's buff. குருட்டாட்டமாய்ப்பேசுகிறான். He speaks foolishly, without understanding. குருட்டுத்தீர்ப்பு, s. Foolish judgment; judgment passed by an ignorant man. குருட்டுநியாயம், s. Wrong reasoning; wrong judgment. குருட்டுப்பத்தி, s. Superstition, blind zeal, bigotry. குருட்டுமுத்து, s. A dim, defective pearl. குருட்டுக்கல்லு, s. A turbid, dim gem. குருட்டுச்சாயம், s. Faint colors, in dying, மங்கற்சாயம். குருட்டுப்பக்கம், s. [prov.] Blind side, the wrong side of a printed cloth, &c. குருட்டுமைப்பட--குருட்டுமையாக, inf. To be dim or obscure--as the writing on olas, by wiping the coloring off before it is dry. 2. To become obscure--as writing to an aged person. குருடுதடவ, inf. To grope, to search and be unable to find, as if blind (said in reproach). குருட்டடி, s. Success, attained at random; a blind hit. குருட்டடியாய்ச்சொல்லிப்போட்டான். He spoke rightly at random. குருட்டடியடிக்க, inf. To speak at random, yet, commonly, to the point. குருட்டுவாக்கு, s. Acting at random --as a blind man; rashness, temerity, thoughtlessness; random success, a fortuitous hit, &c. குருட்டெழுத்து, s. Dimness of writing, &c., to an aged person. குருட்டுக்கொக்கு, s. A kind of stork; a bird of passage, that allows persons to come very near. குருட்டுவவ்வால், s. The common bat. குருட்டுப்பனங்காய், s. [prov.] A palmyra fruit injured on the tree. குருட்டீ, s. Gad-fly. குருட்டுநாள், s. [in astrol.] A dark, dismal asterism, or nacshatra, in certain positions from the moon or the sun; opposed to திருட்டிநாள். 6)

cātaṉai (p. 175) s. W. p. 916. SA'DHANA. Steady and presevering practice, unwearied application, steady zeal, constancy, persistence in an opinion; steadfast maintenance of doctrines, &c., விடாதமுயற்சி. 2. Perfect imitation of life, appearance of reality--as in dramatic actions, நடித்துக் காட்டுகை. 3. Retaining malice, சலஞ்சாதிக் கை. 4. Dissimulation, misrepresentation, falsehood, பொய். (c.) இல்லையென்றொரேசாதனையாய்ச் சாதிக்கிறான். He obstinately persists in denying. சாதனைக்காரன், s. One who practises any dexterous act, சாதகம்பண்ணுகிறவன். 2. A dissembler, a hypocrite, மாமாலி. 3. A tenacious person; one who steadfastly maintains an opinion, or perseveres in a practice. சாதனைத்தீர்ப்பு, v. noun. Obstinately affirming or denying. (R.) சாதனைபண்ண, inf. To practise a dexterous art; to habituate one's self to austerities. 2. To dissemble thoroughly. 3. To imitate to the life. 4. To maintain an assertion, whether true or false, பிடிவாதஞ்செய்ய. கற்பசாதனை, s. Strengthening the body by the use of drugs, &c., to promote longevity. See கற்பம். யோகசாதனை, s. cuyam (p. 194) s. (Sa. Svayam.) Self; being; selfexistence, தானாகுகை. 2. Peculiarity, identity, individuality, ஏகத்துவம். 4. Natural habits--as opposed to acquired; reality, originality, genuineness, சுபாவம். 5. Spontaneity, சுயபுத்தி. 6. [prov.] Continuity, perpetuity, constancy, நிதம். சுயகருமம், s. One's own ceremony. சுயகாறுபாறு, s. One's own authority. (R.) சுயகர்த்தன், s. An independent lord. சுயகாரியம், s. One's own affair, private duty. சுயகாரிய துரந்தரன் பரகாரிய பராமுகன். One zealous, in his own business, but neglectful in that of others. சுயகுணம், s. One's own peculiar nature, temper, disposition. 2. Being natural to one, not affected. சுயகுரு, s. One's own guru, the guru of the family or caste. 2. Siva--as the guru, or enlightener of souls. சுயசாதி, s. One's own tribe. சுயசாதிமானம், s. Partiality for persons of one's own caste. An automaton or self-moving machine. சுயமானபால், s. Unadulterated milk. சுயமாமிசம், s. One's own flesh, kindred. (Christ. usage.) சுயமாய், adv. Of one's own accord, spontaneously. 2. [prov.] Constantly. சுயமானவிவேகம், s. Original genius. சுயம்பாகம், s. Cooking. 2. Cooking for one's self. 3. [with. ஒரு.] Provisions, stores for a meal for one person. சுயம்பாகங்கொடுக்க, inf. tṭṭu (p. 222) கிறேன், தட்டினேன், வேன், தட்ட, v. a. To knock at, as a door, கதவைத்தட்ட. 2. To strike, as a gong; to tap, pat, slap, அறைய. 3. To touch or strive so as to displace, to shake off as dust, &c., தட்டிய திர்க்க. 4. To reject, as a temptation, to discard, விலக்க. 5. To strike in playing on drums, tambourines, the guitar, &c., with a plectrum, or otherwise, கொட்ட. 6. To strike against, commonly accidentally. dash against, மூட்ட. 7. To hobble as a verse, தலைகாட்ட.--Note. The meanings are often cant. அனேகரைக்காய்ச்சல்தட்டிப்போட்டது. The fever has prostrated many persons. தண்ணீர்தலைதட்டநிற்கிறது. The water is head deep. [prov.] தலையைத்தட்டிப்போட்டது. It has carried off his head. தேடியபொருள்காலிலேதட்டினதுபோல. To rice grow high, or tall. 2. To rise to affluence, influence, &c. 3. To be animated with joy, or zeal for an enterprize; to be roused with anger. தட்டிக்கேட்க, inf. To speak or remonstrate. தட்டிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To quiet, to lull by tapping. 2. To cheer, to encourage men or beasts by patting on the back, shoulders, &c. 3.
