aṭṭam (p. 9) --அஷ்டம், s. Eight, எட்டு. (p.) Wils. p. 92. ASHTAN. அட்டகணம்--அஷ்டகணம், s. [in poetry.] The eight kinds of feet with which the invocation of a poem may begin; four indicative of good, and four of evil. See கணம். அஷ்டகம், s. See மாந்தம். அஷ்டமி, s. The eighth day of the moon, either waxing or waning, எட் டாந்திதி. 2. The eighth of any series or number, எட்டாவது. அஷ்டமூர்த்தம், s. A medicine composed of eight metals: 1. பொன், gold. 2. வெள்ளி, silver. 3. செம்பு, copper. 4. இரும்பு, iron. 5. வெண்கலம், white copper. 6. தரா, brass. 7. வங்கம், lead. 8. துத்தநாகம், zinc, with different salts and vegetable juices; the whole prepared by fire and reduced to powder to be used in various diseases. அஷ்டவசுக்கள், s. The eight வ சுக்கள், a class of தேவர் or gods. See வசுக்கள். அஷ்டவணிககுணம், s. The eight qualities of a good tradesman. See வ ணிககுணம். அஷ்டவருக்கம், s. The eight special mountains (அஷ்டகிரி), in Jambu Dwipa are Kailasa, கைலை or வெள்ளிமலை; Himalaya, இமயம், or பனிமலை; Mandara, மந்தரம் or கடலைக்கடைந்த மலை; Vindhya, விந்தம் or ஆரியதேசத் தென்புறத் தெல்லைமலை; Nishada, நிடதம், or நிடதநாட்டுமலை; Hémakúda, ஏமகூடம் or பொன்மலை; Nilagiri, நீலகிரி or அஸ்தமிக்குமலை; Gand'hamadan, கந்தமா தனம் or மேருவின்கீழ்பாலுள்ளமலை. Blue spectacles. நீலக்கத்தரி--நீலவழுதலை, s. A brinjal of a bluish caste. See கத்தரி. நீலக்கல், s. A precious stone, sapphire. நீலக்காக்கட்டான், s. A plant, ஓர்பூடு. நீலக்காலி, s. The indigo plant, as yielding blue dye, as அவுரி. நீலங்கட்ட, inf. To tie up a cloth, except the borders, corners, &c., and dip it in dye, நீலந்தீர. 2. To forge a great lie, பெரும்பொய்கூற. நீலங்கட்டுப்படப்பேசுகிறான். He lies greatly as he speaks. நீலச்சால், s. A blue dye-pot, a jar used in making indigo or dyeing with indigo. நீலந்தீர--நீலந்தோய்க்க, inf. To dye or tinge with blue. நீலபாஷாணம், s. A kind of prepared arsenic. நீலபுஷ்பம், s. A plant, விஷ்ணுகரந்தை. 2. A tree, எட்டிமரம். நீலப்புகார், s. Faint blue in staining cloth. நீலப்புடவை, s. Blue cloth, காங்கு. நீலமணி, s. Sapphire, as நீலக்கல். 2. To fix the blue i. e. to fabricate a story; said to be necessary for a washerman that the cloths may take the color. நீலம்பாரிக்க, inf. To become bluish as the face, eyes of teeth by poisonous bites; a part hurt by a blow; or an infant by disease, &c., சரீரம்நீலநிறமாக. 2. To be darkened, as the earth in an eclipse caused by the serpent Raku, an eclipse by the other serpent being red. நீலராசாவர்த்தம், s.
