nālu (p. 275) --நால், adj. Four, நான்கு. 2. (fig.) Many, general, multifold, universal, all, பல, as நாலுவித்தையும்.--Note. In combination before, க, ச, த, ப, the ல், becomes ற் and before ஞ, ந, ம, it is changed to ன்; sometimes to லா as நாலாகாரியமும், divers matters, various affairs, concerns, circumstances. நாலுகல்வியும். As the splint of the banyan and வேல் trees gives strength to the teeth (by rubbing them), so நாலடியார், and குறள், give strength to the speech. நாலடி--நாலடியார், s.
