The former is deemed the more sacred and not needing to be dipped in water for purification. caṟ (p. 173) adj. [A sanscrit prefix.] Good, right, excellent, virtuous, &c., நல்ல, உச்சித. W. p. 884. SAT. சற்கருமம்--சற்கன்மம், s. Good deeds, charitable or meritorious acts. See கரு மம். சற்கன்மபரிபாகம், s. The maturing of works of merit performed in previous births, supposed to promote the illumination of the soul, and to lead to the use of means for its deliverance from transmigrations. (p.) சற்கரிக்க, inf. To treat hospitably, to entertain, உபசரிக்க. 2. To be kind, polite, civil, obliging; [ex சற்காரம்.] சற்காரம், s. Kindness, beneficence, hospitality, civility, உபசாரம். W. p. 884. SATKARA. (p.) சற்காரியம், s. Good things, virtuous deeds, pursuits, &c., meritorious actions. சற்காரியவித்தை, s. The four incidents connected with births as necessary for the performance of actions, namely. 1. தனு, body for the performance of actions. 2. கரணம், intellectual faculties, the senses, &c. 3. புவனம், word, locality--as the theatre of actions. 4. போகம், suffering and enjoyment. That which is specific--as opposed to the generic (பொது), சிறப்புப்பெயர். 6. Choiceness, rareness, அருமை. 7. Pre-eminence, transcendency, மேம்பாடு. 8. A sacred periodical festival, a temple procession, &c., உற்சவம். 9. Civilities to guests, etiquette, உபசாரம். 1, Abundance, plenty, copiousness, intensity, excess, மிகுதி. 11. Auspiciousness, propitiousness, prosperity, சுபம். 12. Classical beauty, புலமைச்சிறப்பு. ஊணுடையெச்சமுயிர்க்கெல்லாம் வேறலல நாணு டைமாந்தர்சிறப்பு. Food, dress, &c., are common to men, but modesty is peculiar to the good. (குற) சிறப்பகத்திணை, s. Reflection, discrimination, as a faculty of the mind distinct from perception by the senses; [ex அகத்திணை.] See திணை. சிறப்பிலாதாள், s. The goddess of illluck, மூதேவி; [ex இலாதாள்.] (நிக.) சிறப்புச்சூத்திரம், s. Special or particular rules in scientific, or literary works as distinguished from general rules. சிறப்புச்செய்ய--சிறப்புப்பண்ண, inf. To beautify, to adorn. 2. To show civilities, உபசரிக்க. 3. [prov.] To celebrate a temple festival. சிறப்புச்சொல், s. A specific word, not generic. சிறப்புப்பாயிரம், s. A special preface --distinguished from பொதுப்பாயிரம். சிறப்புப்பெயர், s. Particular, proper, specific or special names--opposed to பொதுப்பெயர். 2. Official or acquired names, titles of rank, &c.--Note. சிறப்புப் பெயர் is derived from eight sources as-திணை, a track--as குறவன், a mountainer. 2. நிலம், country--as சீனன், Chinese. 3. சாதி, caste--as அம்பட்டன், the barber. 4. குடி, family--as சேரன், the (royal) Seran. 5. உடைமை, possession--as உடையன், the possessor. 6. பொருள், property, as பொன் னன், the possessor of gold. 7. குணம், quality--as பெரியன், the great one. 8. கல்வி, learning--as ஆசிரியன், a teacher. சிறப்புவிதி, s. A specific rule. சிறப்பெடுக்க, inf. To solemnize a temple festival, திருவிழாக்கொண்டாட. (p.) சிறப்பெழுத்து, s. Letters in Tamil which have no corresponding letters in Sanscrit, viz.: எ, ஒ, ழ, ற, ன, ஃ, ஒற்றளபு, and some others. 2. Sanscrit letters that have none exactly corresponding with them in Tamil. 27)

Other specifications are included, as இயற்சொல். common words; திரிசொல், learned words; திசைச்சொல், provincial words, or according to the நன்னூல், words peculiar to or derived from any of the Tamil provinces around the Madura district, or form any of the Indian cognate languages; வடசொல் or வடமொழி, words of Sanscrit origin. அவனுடையபேச்சு காற்சொல்லுமரைச்சொல்லும்..... He speaks broken language; (lit.) half and quarter words. அப்படிச்சொல்லு. Say so--as a command; or as meaning--that is right. ஒருசொல்லுள்ளமனிதன்--ஒருசொல் வாசகன், s. A man steadfast to his word. சொல்லிற்பிழைதேட, inf. To detect a fault in speech. சொல்லணி--சொல்லலங்காரம், s. [in Rhetoric.] Figures founded in words, as distinguished from figures of thought. (See மடக்கு, &c.) 2. Elegance of expression. 3. Correct pronunciation. 4. Empty politeness, mere professions of kindness, உபசாரவசனம். சொல்லழுத்தம், s. Emphasis,--Note. Strictly speaking there is no increased meaning given to a word in Tamil, by a stress laid upon it; this is done by intensitive particles. சொல்லறுதி, s. Decisiveness in selling, making an offer, striking a bargain, &c. சொல்லாட, inf. To utter words, speak, talk. (p.) (குறள். chap. 82.) சொல்லாதசொல், s.
