[in poetry.] The eight kinds of feet with which the invocation of a poem may begin; four indicative of good, and four of evil. See கணம். அஷ்டகம், s. A medicine composed of eight metals: 1. பொன், gold. 2. வெள்ளி, silver. 3. செம்பு, copper. 4. இரும்பு, iron. 5. வெண்கலம், white copper. 6. தரா, brass. 7. வங்கம், lead. 8. துத்தநாகம், zinc, with different salts and vegetable juices; the whole prepared by fire and reduced to powder to be used in various diseases. அஷ்டவசுக்கள், s. To rub two sticks together till they ignite, தீக்கடைய. 5. To mash yams or other vegetable, &c., to a pulp with the bowl of a ladle, பருப்புமுதலிய னகடைய. கடைந்தமோரிலேவெண்ணெயெடுக்கப்பார்க்கிறான். He is trying to get butter from whey; i. e. he is too exacting, rigorous. கடைந்தவெண்ணெய்மோர்புகா. Butter produced by churning will not again be diffused through the milk. கடைகோல், s. Torches of the குமிழ் splinters or branches, used by travellers. செங்குமிழ், s. The red குமிழ் shrub, Gmelina Asiatica. நிலக்குமிழ், s. A low species of the குமிழ் shrub. பெருங்குமிழ், s. To gamble with இருப்பை seeds, ஓர்விளையாட்டு. கொட்டைக்காய், s. A seedy or stony fruit; any fruit the stones or seeds of which are large, or numerous, in proportion to the pulp. கொட்டைக்கச்சி--கொட்டைக்கையில், s. [prov. vul.] The half of a cocoanut shell. See கொட்டங்கைச்சி. கொட்டைக்குவிட, inf. To let a plant go to seed. கொட்டைச்செத்தல்--கொட்டைத்தேங் காய், s. [prov.] A dry cocoanut in which the kernel rattles, கொப்பரைத்தேங்காய். கொட்டைநூற்க, inf. To spin cotton, flax, &c. கப்பலோடிப்பட்டகடன் கொட்டைநூற்றுத்தீரு மோ. Will the debt contracted by a ship merchant be paid by spinning cotton? கொட்டைபுதைக்க--கொட்டைதாழ்க்க, inf. To plant fruit stones. கொட்டைப்பாக்கு, s. An entire arekanut dried without boiling. கொட்டைப்புளி, s. Pulp of tamarind fruit with the stones. கொட்டைப்போட, inf.
