krukku (p. 96) கிறேன், கருக்கினேன் வே ன், கருக்க v. a. To burn, to tinder, கருகச் செய்ய. 2. To scorch, toast, fry, parch, to imbrown or darken by heat, to tan கறுப் போடவாட்ட, 3. To scorch corn; to tan the countenance, referring to the action of the sun, &c., தீக்க. 4. [vul.] To harass by rebukes, திட்ட. சாராயமீரலைக்கருக்கிப்போடும். Ardent spirits consume the liver. ஆளைக்கருக்கிப்போட்டார்கள். They have greatly harassed the person by reproofs. பத்தியத்துக்குகருக்கிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To fry or cook (food) and give it to a patient-as a proper diet. மனதைக்கருக்க, inf. To wound the feelings, to offend. கருக்கல், v. noun. The act of blackening. 2. kuṭṭu (p. 117) கிறேன், குட்டினேன், வேன், குட்ட, v. a. To cuff on the head, தலையிற்குட்ட. 2. (fig.) To cheat, overcome by fraud, எத்த. குட்டுப்பட்டாலும்மோதிரக்கையினாலேகுட்டுப்பட வேண்டும். If cuffed at all, let it be with a jeweled hand; i. e. reproof from a worthy character is profitable. வியாபாரத்திலேயவனைக்குட்டிப்போட்டார்கள்.... They have injured him in traffic. காகம்அவன்தலையிலேகுட்டிப்போட்டது. The crow has cuffed him on his head. காகங்குட்டிவிளையாடுகிறார்கள். The boys play crow-cuffing (a play in imitation of the cuffing of crows). குட்டிக்கும்பிட, inf. To cuff the head, three times or more, and then raise the hands closed in worship. குட்டு, v. noun. A blow with the fist on the head; a buffet, a cuff, தலையிற்குட் டுங்குட்டு. குட்டுண்ண, inf. To be buffeted, cuffed, குட்டுப்பட. குட்டுணி, s. An untractable, shameless fellow, cuffed about by every one, குட்டுண்பவன். குட்டல், v. noun. The act of cuffing. 31)

The wound produced by caustic language. (குற.) சுடுகலம், s. An earthen vessel, குயக் கலம். (சது.) சுடுகண், s. A fiery eye. See கொள் ளிக்கண். சுடுகாடு--சுடுநிலம், s. A place of cremation. 2. (fig.) A desert, a place where victuals cannot be got. (c.) சுடுகாட்டுமணிபொறுக்கி, s. A bird. See under காடு. சுடுகோல், s. A rod for stirring the fire in burning a corpse. 2. A brand, an iron rod, சூட்டுக்கோல். சுடுசுண்ணம், s. Burnt lime. சுடுமருந்து, s. A chemical preparation, more commonly, எரிமருந்து. சுடுவனம், s. A place for cremation. சுடுகாடு. சுட்டுக்கொட்டைப்பரப்ப, inf. To devastate a town, and sow ot with seed. (Colloq.) சுட்டசாந்து, s. As சுடுசுண்ணம். சுட்டெரிக்க, inf. To consume by burning. சுட்டசெங்கல், s. Burnt bricks, opposite to பச்சைச்செங்கல். sun-burnt-bricks. சுட்டவிறைச்சி, s. See இறைச்சி. பழுக்கச்சுட, inf. To give a bright yellow color to gold ornaments, by immersing them in a boiling solution of sulphur, saltpetre, culinary salt, and turmeric. See பழு. v. சாடுவெட்டிச்சுட, inf. To clear and burn forest land. நாவிலேசுட, inf. To brand the tongue in restoring one to caste. நாவாலேசுட, inf. To blight with the tongue, &c. சுட்டுப்போட, inf. To consume by fire; to shoot; to blight. பிள்ளையைக்கண்ணாற்சுட்டுப் போட்டார்கள்.... They have blighted (lit. burnt) the child, with their eyes; incduced sickness. விரகங்கொண்டவரைச்சந்திரன்சுடுகிறது. The moon's rays inflame the lascivious. அவன் ஊரைச்சுட்டுப்போடுவான். He will burn the country, i. e. devastate it, &c. 31)

cuṇṭu (p. 193) கிறது, சுண்டினது, ம், சுண்ட, v. n. To dry up as in boiling, stewing, simmering, &c., to be evaporated by heat, கறிமுதலியனசுண்ட. 2. To be dried, lessened, as the blood of an emaciated person, இரத்தஞ்சு ண்ட. 3. To pinch internally, gripe throb, வயிறுசுண்ட. 4. To impinge--as a strained line, or bow-string in reaction, கயிறுசுண்ட. 5. To be tight, as a string or as a muscle in cramp, &c., நரம்புமுதலியனஇழுக்க. (c.) சுண்டக்கட்ட, inf. [prov. fig.] To strain and fasten, as a rope tied to posts, அழுத்திக்கட்ட. சுண்டக்காய, inf. To boil and dry away. சுண்டக்காய்ச்ச, inf. To boil so as to reduce or exhaust the liquor. சுண்டப்பிடிக்க, inf. [prov.] To pinch too closely in measuring cloth. &c. so as to give scanty measure; to gripe. 2. To be niggardly in expenditure. சுண்டிப்போக, inf. To be reduced by evaporation. 2. To wither, to be shrunk--as the face, வெட்கிப்போக. சுண்டவைக்க, inf. To let the curry or porridge, &c., become dry and hard, when boiling. அவனைச்சுண்டவுலர்த்திப்போட்டார்கள். They have reduced and weakened him, (by diet, bleeding, &c.) அவன்முகஞ்சுண்டிப்போயிற்று. tṭvu (p. 221) கிறேன், தடவினேன், வேன், தடவ, v. a. and v. n. To stroke, embrace, fondle, to soothe, by patting or stroking, தடவர. 2. To grope, to feel one's way with the hands or feet as in the dark, to feel about, தெரியாமற்தடவ. 3. To anoint--as with liniment, to smear softly, to spread on lightly, எண்ணெய்முதலியதடவ. 4. To bedaub, besmear; to dirty, பூச. 5. To play on a lute with a bow, வீணைவாசிக்க. 6. To measure out very scantily, to strike off the measure too closely, முகந்தளந்துதடவ. 7. (fig.) Stroking the back shows affection; the feet, submission; the face or chin, pity, affection, or supplication. தடவக்கொடுக்க, inf. to let one stroke the back. 2. [prov.] To yield too much, to be too submissive. தடவிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To stroke a person, beast, &c. 2. To give short measure. இருந்துதடவ, inf. To sit groping; from great age, blindness, &c. தடவிக்கொண்டுதிரிய, inf. To walk about groping. தடவியளக்க, inf. To measure scantily, with the measure. தட்டித்தடவிவர, inf. To come stumbling and groping. தாடியைத்தடவ, inf. To stroke the chin as supplicating favors. வீடெல்லாந்தடவிப்பார். Search for it all over the house. எல்லாந்தடவிக்கொண்டுபோய்விட்டான். He has scraped up all, and gone. அவனைத்தலைதடவிப்போட்டார்கள்.....They have stripped him of every thing. மரமெல்லாந்தடவிக்கொண்டுவந்துவிட்டான். He has climbed every tree; i. e. has plucked and brought away every thing. 73)

nkrttu (p. 266) கிறேன், நகர்த்தினேன், வேன், நகர்த்த, v. a. (causative of நகர்.] To push with difficulty, to shove along, to propel a little, தள்ள. 2. To pilfer, to steal little by little, கொஞ்சங்கொஞ்சமாய்க்கொண்டுபோக. (c.) நகர்்த்தஇலக்குப்பார்க்கிறான். He watches an opportunity what move he can make. வீட்டைநகர்த்திக்கட்டவேண்டும். We must remove the house a little farther. சுவரையிடித்துநகர்த்திவிட்டான். He tore down and removed the wall. அவனைநன்றாகநகர்ததிப்போட்டார்கள். They gave him a good drubbing. 2)

nekiẕ (p. 279) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To make loose, to make slack, to relax, தளர்த்த. 2. To crush, to bruise, by pressing, &c., நசுக்க. 3. To separate, to detach, பிரிக்க. 4. māṟṟu (p. 352) கிறேன், மாற்றினேன், வேன், மாற்ற, v. a. To change, alter, வேறுபடுத்த. 2. To rectify, convert, cure, set straight, செம்மை ப்படுத்த. 3. To dispel, remove, நீக்க. 4. To derange, change, or alter for the worse, கெடுக்க. 5. To abrogate, repeal, கலைக்க. 6. To involve, reduce nature to its primitive elements by resolving the whole into the deity, நிக்கிரகிக்க. 7. muṟṟu (p. 359) கிறேன், முற்றினேன், வேன், முற்ற, v. n. To become mature, to ripen, முதிர. 2. To become hard, solid, வயிரங்கொள்ள. [improp. முத்து.] (c.) 3. To be finished, completed, முடிய. 4. v. a. To complete, to finish, முடிக்க. 5. To blockade, to shut up a port, வளைக்க. (p.) காய்முற்றிப்போயிற்று. The fruit is ripe. காரியமுற்றிப்போயிற்று. The matter has become aggravated. வியாதிமுற்றிப்போனது. The disease is incurable. முற்ற, inf. [as adv. vul. முட்ட.] Entirely, fully, முடிய. முற்றநனைந்தவனுக்கீரமில்லை. There is no wetting him who is well drenched. வழிமுற்றஎன்கூடவந்தான். The letter உ in its full quantity, unabbreviated உ--as distinct from குற்றுகரம், as கடு poison, கதவு, door, and not as in மதகு, sluice, உதடு, lip, &c. முற்றியைபு, s. Rhyming in the last letter in all the feet. See தொடை. முற்றிழை, s. A lady completely adorned. முற்றிழாய். O thou who hast adorned thyself with perfect jewels. (p.) முற்றுகை, v. noun.
