[in poetry.] The eight kinds of feet with which the invocation of a poem may begin; four indicative of good, and four of evil. See கணம். அஷ்டகம், s. A medicine composed of eight metals: 1. பொன், gold. 2. வெள்ளி, silver. 3. செம்பு, copper. 4. இரும்பு, iron. 5. வெண்கலம், white copper. 6. தரா, brass. 7. வங்கம், lead. 8. துத்தநாகம், zinc, with different salts and vegetable juices; the whole prepared by fire and reduced to powder to be used in various diseases. அஷ்டவசுக்கள், s. The eight வ சுக்கள், a class of தேவர் or gods. See வசுக்கள். அஷ்டவணிககுணம், s. The eight qualities of a good tradesman. See வ ணிககுணம். அஷ்டவருக்கம், s. To conceive, to be impregnated, கருக்கொள்ள. கர்ப்பசூலை, s. Obstruction of the menses and consequent swelling of the abdomen operating as a preventive to pregnancy, இரத்தசூலை. veṭṭu (p. 399) கிறேன், வெட்டினேன், வேன், வெட்ட, v. a. To cut, with a sword or axe, to cut off, to fell by a blow. 2. To engrave, முத்திரைவெட்ட. 3. To dig, as a well, தோண்ட. 4. To injure, to mar--as insects, புழுவெட்ட. 5. To strike off, as in measuring grain. See தலைவெட்ட. (c.) அதைவெட்டிப்போடு. Cut it down. அவனைவெட்டிக்கொன்றுபோட்டார்கள்.....They killed him by cutting [his throat]. வெட்டி, appel. n. [in comb.] That which cuts, as மண்வெட்டி, புழுவெட்டி. வாய்வெட்டி, s.
