A secret place in the waistcloth, உள்மடி. அடிமடை, s. The commencement of a water channel, முதல்மடை. அடிமண், s. The earth adhering to one's feet, taken for enchantments against him (வசியம்) or for witchcraft, காலிலொட்டியமண். அடிமயக்கு, s. Transposing the lines of a verse without destroying the sense, அடிமாற்றுகை. 2. A verse so formed, ஓர்பா, as, அங்கண்மதியமரவின்வாய்ப்பட்டென்ப, பூசல்வாயாப்புலம்புமனைகலங்கி. அடிமறிமண்டிலவாசிரியப்பா, s. One of the four kinds of ஆசிரியம், the lines of which are interchangeable at pleasure, the meaning remaining the same, ஓர்வகையாசிரியப்பா. அடிமறிமாற்றுப்பொருள்கோள், s. Construction in which the lines of a stanza are interchangeable, the harmony and meaning remaining the same, or the harmony only slightly affected. See பொருள்கோள், as, சுரையாழவம்மிமிதப்பவரையனை ய, யானைக்குநீத்துமுயற்குநிலையென்ப கானகநாடன் சுனை. அடிமுகனை, s. [vul.] Beginning-as of a story, &c. அடிமுடி, s. Order, regularity, வர லாறு. 2. One of the forty-three kinds of rhyme in which each line begins with the same letter, ஓர் வகை மோனைத்தொடை. அடியடியாக, adv. [prov.] In succession, as the descent of title, &c., தலைமுறை தலைமுறையாக. அடியந்தாதி, s. A repetition in verse. See அந்தாதி. அடியளபெடை, s. Prolonging the sounds of long vowels at the beginning of every line, தொடைவிகற்பத்தொன்று. அடியறுக்கி, s. A flat piece of wood by which the potter marks his work and cuts it from the wheel below, மட்கலமறுக்குங்கருவி. அடியனாதி, s. Time immemorial, antiquity, தொன்றுதொட்டுள்ளகாலம். அடியார், s. [sing. அடியான்--அடி யாள்.] Slaves, servants as applied to devotees in reference to their deity, and used by persons of themselves in addressing superiors, to show respect, obedience or submission, தொண்டர். அடியிட, inf. To set on foot, commence an undertaking, a law suit, &c., தொடங்க. 2. To make a beginning in braiding--as the bottom of a basket, the first end of a mat, &c., பாய்முதலியவை முடைதற்கு அடியிட. அடியுரம், s. [prov.] Ancestral property, original stock. 2. Crop of a past year reserved for the sustenance of the following. 3. Manure put on the soil round a tree, &c., எரு. 4. One of the forty-three kinds of rhymes in which the second letters of each line are of the same class, ஓரெதுகைத்தொடை. அடியேன், s. I your slave, your humble servant. அடியோடுகெட, inf. To be destroyed utterly, extirpated. அடியோட்டி, s. A triangular instrument with spikes, which, however placed, has one spike upward to pierce the feet of men or cattle; used in war, &c., a caltrop. அடிவயிறு, s. The lower part of the belly, the abdomen, கீழ்வயிறு. அடிவரலாறு, s. Source, principle, cause, காரணம். 2. Beginning, origin, bottom of a thing, தொடக்கம். 3. Ancient lines of ancestry, வமிசவரலாறு. அடிவரலாறாகத்தெரிதல். Understanding from the first. அடிவருட, inf. To chafe, stroke, or shampoo the legs of another. அடிவாரம், s. The foot of a hill, சாரல். அடிவானம், s. Horizon, திகாந்தம். அடிவிட--அடிவிரிய--அடிவிள்ள, inf. [prov.] To be cracked as the bottom of a chatty, &c. by use, அடியுடைய. அடிவைக்க, inf. eṟṟu (p. 75) கிறேன், எற்றினேன், வேன், எற்ற, v. a. To cast, throw off, to jerk away under-handed, side-handed, &c.; to toss, cast out--as water from a vessel with force, throw water from a pool, a channel with the feet in watering plants, &c.; to kick a thing away, எறிய. 2. To strike, அடிக்க. 3. To cuff, to strike with the fist, புடைக்க. 4. To cut, cut asunder, cut down, வெட்ட. 5. To pierce, stab, குத்த. 6. To kill, கொல்ல. முரசமெற்றினர். A carpenter's line for marking boards, &c., மரமறுக்கப்போடுநூல். எற்றல், v. noun. Throwing off, throwing water from a pool, &c., எற்றல்மரம், s. [prov.] A kind of oblong pail with a long handle, supported by three posts for throwing up water in irrigation. எற்றற்பட்டை, s. [prov.] Basket for irrigation by four or six persons. எற்று, v. noun. Casting, jerking, எறிகை. 2. Warding off, striking off, தட் டுகை. ஓரெற்றிலேயெற்றிப்போட்டான். He cast it away at once. 35)

aiym (p. 80) s. Doubt, hesitation, uncertainty, indecision, suspense, scepticism, terms or probability, possibility, and any thing short of positive certainty are included, சந்தேகம். 2. (p.) Alms, charity, பிச்சை. 3. A beggar's vessel or shell, இரப்போர்கலம். 4. Phlegm--one of the humors of the body, சிலேட்டுமம். 5. Doubt, surprise, &c.--as one of the துறை, அகப்பொருட்டுறையினொன்று-as, போதோவிசும்போபுனலோபணிகளது பதியோ யா தோவறிகுவதேதுமரிது, whether the place the damsel occupies is a lotus flower, the world of the gods, water, or the world of serpents, it is difficult to determine. ஐயம்புகினுஞ் செய்வினைசெய். Though you go abegging, perform your duties. (ஔ வை.) ஐயகணசூலை, s. An arthritic disease arising from phlegm and heat, ஆறுசூலையிலொன்று. ஐயக்காட்சி, s. An object of subject exciting doubt, indistinct perception, problematical or hypothetical terms, அதுவோவிதுவோவெனக்காண்கை. (See காட்சி.) 2. Doubt, சந்தேகம். ஐயக்காரன், s. A beggar, a mendicant, பிச்சைக்காரன். ஐயக்கிளவி, s. Terms or particles of doubt or uncertainty, commonly found in interrogative expressions, ஐய மொழி--such as ஆ, ஏ, ஓ, கொல், யா, &c. ஐயநாடி, s. One of the three states of the pulse--that in which the phlegmatic humor is supposed to be prevalent in the system, சிலேட்டுமநாடி. See நாடி. ஐயப்பட, inf. To doubt, hesitate. ஐயப்படாமை, neg. v. noun. Freedom from doubt and fear, certainty, undauntedness, சந்தேகங்கொள்ளாமை. 2. One of the eight அறத்துறுப்பு. See உறுப்பு. ஐயப்பாடு, s. Doubt, uncertainty, indecision, apprehension, suspense, சந் தேகம். ஐயமறுக்க, inf. One of the five kinds of questions which are proposed to remove doubt from the mind, சந்தேக நிவர்த்திசெய்ய. ஐயமிட, inf. To give alms, பிச் சையிட. ஐயமிட்டுண். Give alms before you eat. ஐயமுற, inf. To doubt, சந்தேகம டைய. ஐயமேலிட, inf. To be in a great doubt, சந்தேகமதிகரிக்க. 2. To have the rattles in the throat--as a dying person, சிலேட்டுமமேலிட. ஐயவணி, s. A figure in rhetoric-as where doubt is entertained as to whether a thing which bears analogy to another is identical with or distinct from it--as தாதளவிவண்டுதடுமாறுந்தாமரைகொ ல் மாதர்விழியுலவும் வாண்முகங்கொல். I doubt whether it is the face of a woman or a lotus flower, since it resembles so much the latter. ஐயவதிசயம், s. A figure in rhetoric, ஓரலங்காரம். ஐயவிலக்கு, s. In opposition or contradiction. குறுக்கேதடுக்க, inf. To interpose and prevent--as a by-stander. 2. To meet a person, stop him and forbid his proceeding. 3. To check, prevent, obstruct, stop, interrupt. குறுக்கேபோக, inf. To go across; to go a short way. 2. To cross one's track, or path--as a cat, &c., considered a bad omen. 3. To pass between persons or things. 4. To die prematurely and in the prime of life. 5. To transgress one's commands; to go or act against one's wishes, counsel, &c. குறுக்கிட, inf. To come across--as animals of bad omen. 2. To interfere. குறுக்களவு, s. Dimension across; thickness; the diameter. 2. The extent or measure of any line or direction parallel wit the diameter. குறுக்கடி, s. A precipitate step or measure; a rash course; a contrary or contradictory procedure. 2. A short, hasty, abrupt or crabbed answer; an assertion without due deliberation. 3. A stroke at one's loins. குறுக்கடிநியாயம், s. Abrupt, inconclusive reasoning. குறுக்கடியாயடிக்க, inf.
