ūcu (p. 69) கிறேன், ஊசினேன், வேன், ஊச, v. a. To sew, join two, தைக்க. 2. v. n. [used with the அஃறிணை terminations.] To become stale, sour, rank, insipid, &c.--as food by keeping, சுவைகெட. 3. To decay, become putrid--as flesh; to corrupt, putrefy--as a corpse, ஊழ்க்க. ஆசைப்பட்டகாரியமூசிப்போயிற்று. He has not got the thing he desired. முள்ளினூசித்துன்னமூசியவாடை. A garment sewed together with thorns instead of needles. (சிந்தா.) ஊசிப்போனகறி, s. Meat past eating, spoiled. ஊசுமுடல், s. The vile body. (அறிவானந்தசித்தி.) ஊசல், v. noun. Becoming stale, rank. 2. s. The food of birds and beasts in general, பற வைவிலங்கிவற்றினுணவு. Four kinds of eating are enumerated, viz.: 1. உண்டல், eating without mastication--as boiled rice, &c. 2. தின்றல், masticating, chewing--as meat, curries, &c. 3. நக்கல், licking--as honey, molasses, lapping. 4. பருகல், drinking, sucking--as a child. Sometimes a fifth is added, viz.: மென்றல், chewing--as spices, pungents, leaves, &c. kept in the mouth. உண்டிசுருங்குதல்பெண்டிர்க்கழகு. It is becoming in a woman to eat little. பேருண்டி, s. A principal meal-as dinner, &c., போசனம். 2. Eating to excess, gluttony, gormandizing, பெருந் தீன். சிற்றுண்டி, s. A light meal--as luncheon, tiffin, பலகாரம். 2. Eating sparingly, சிறுதீன். 3. ulai (p. 66) s. A smith's forge, or furnace, கொல்லனுலை. 2. A fireplace for cooking, a hearth, நெருப்புள்ளவடுப்பு. 3. A pot of water set on the fire, or fireplace for cooking, பாகஞ்செய்யவைக்குநீருலை. உலைகட்ட, inf. To decorate the top of a pot with mango leaves and set it on the fireplace with water to receive the rice that is to be boiled and distributed among religious mendicants, or offered in the temple, பொங்கற்பானைக்குமா விலைசெருகியகயிறுகட்ட. உலைகாயவைக்க, inf. To set the rice-pot on the fire filled with water to be heated. உலைகொதிக்க, inf. To boil as water when placed on the fire for cooking, &c. உலைக்களம், s. A smith's forge, கொல்லனுலையிடம். உலைக்குறடு, s. A smith's tongs, இரும்பெடுக்குங்குறடு. உலைத்தண்ணீர்--உலைநீர், s. Water set over the fire for cooking, பாகஞ்செய்ய வைக்குந்தண்ணீர். 2. Water used by the smith in the work of the forge, இரும்பு தோய்க்குநீர். உலைத்துருத்தி, s. A smith's bellows, உலையூதுந்துருத்தி. உலைமுகம், s. A smith's furnace or the centre of the forge, கொல்லனுலையி டம். உலைமூக்கு, s. The hole in the forge in which the bellows are inserted, கொல் லனுலைநாசி. உலைமூடி, s. The cover of a pot used for heating water, உலைப்பானையின் மேல்மூடி. ஊரைவாய்மூடவுலைமூடியில்லை. There is no lid that will cover the country. உலைமூட்ட, inf. To construct a forge and make it ready for work, கொல்லனுலையாயத்தம்பண்ண. 2. To make a fire in the smith's forge, கொல்லனுலை யில்நெருப்புமூட்ட. 3. To make a fire for cooking, அடுப்புமூட்ட. உலைமூட்டினாலுண்டுலகு. If the smith construct the forge, the world will stand. உலையாணிக்கோல், s. A smith's poker, beak-iron, உலையிருப்புக்கோல். 2. A branding-iron, சுட்டுக்கோல். உலையில்வெந்தவிரும்பு, s. Iron well burnt in a smith's forge. உலையேற்ற--உலைவைக்க, inf. To set a pot on the fire, உலைப்பானையையடுப்பி லேவைக்க. அவன்என்தலைக்குஉலைவைக்கிறான். He puts a rice-pot on the fire for my head; i. e. he meditates my ruin. இன்னமுலைவைக்கவில்லை. The rice-pot has not yet been set on the fire. 28)

To surround, encircle, சூழ. பிள்ளைக்குச்சீலையுடுத்தாள். She dressed the child. பூசலார்விழிக்குச்சந்தப்பூந்தழையுடுத்து. Adorning the attractive eyed body with boughs of the sandal tree. (திருச்செந்திற்புராணம்.) உடுகூறை, s. Clothes--in colloquial use, chiefly woman's. உடுத்தவாடை, s. Home-dress or dishabille, under-clothes. உடுத்தவாடையில்லாதாணீராட்டும். A woman's bathing without her under-garments (is improper). (திரிகடுகம்.) உடுத்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To dress one's self. உடுத்துவிட, inf. To dress another. உடுபாவனை, s. Mode or style of dress. 2. [prov.] A suit of clothes. 3. (Rott.) Clean clothes. உடுபுடவை, s. Garments. உடுமானம், s. A dress befitting a person's station in life. நகருடுத்த, rel. part. Surrounding the city. கடலுடுத்தபார், s. The sea-girt earth. உடுக்கை, v. noun. Dressing. 2. s. Raiment, clothing, உடை. உடுக்கையிழந்தவன்கைபோலவாங்கேயிடுக்கண்க ளைவதாநட்பு. (Real) friendship to one removes his distress with that promptitude with which the hands of him whose garments are loosened (while before an assembly) adjust them. (குறள்.) உடுப்பு, s. Clothes, garments, clothing, vesture, dress, வஸ்திரம். உடுப்புடுக்க, inf. To dress, clothe (one's self of another). 90)
