Poetry is of four kinds, viz.: 1. ஆசுகவி, an extemporaneous poem made by request, the theme, the kind of verse and some of the rhetorical figures to be wrought into it being given. 2. மதுரகவி, a poem in which sublime and gratifying ideas are couched in rich language, with varied appropriate rhymes and rhetorical figures, and all in a sweet flowing style. 3. சித்திரகவி, a poem variously of artfully composed. (See மிறைக் கவி.) 4. வித்தாரகவி, an extended poem, such as the great epics Ramayana and Bharata.--Note. Each of these four is also applied to the poet as well as to the poem. கவிகட்ட--கவிபாட inf. kvi (p. 98) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To cover-as with an umbrella; to canopy, over-spread, bend inwards, மூட. (p.) குடைகலித்தான். He covered himself with an umbrella. கவிப்பு, v. noun. Covering, concavity, a bending, curvity, flexure, inclination, மூடுகை. 2. s. An unbrella, a canopy, குடை. (p.) 3. In divination by astrology, the signs which stand as many signs forward from the rising sign, as the situation of the sun is from the ஆரூடம், இராசிக்கவிப்பு. (See ஆரூடம் and உதயம்.) 4.
