kumpakaṉṉaṉ (p. 123) --கும்பகர்ணன், s. The gigantic brother of Rávan'a, whose ears were like a jar. He is said to have performed austerities to obtain immortality, நித்தியத்துவம்; but, under the evil influence of the supernals, who dreaded his power, he was made to falter in his words and to say, நித்திராத்துவம் (sleepiness), and he was thenceforward given up to sleep. See under the verb குந்து. அவர்களிலொருகுந்துங்கூருமில்லாமற்போய்விட்டது, There is not one of the family left--not even a fibre. குந்துகாலி, s. A hobbling or limping female. குந்துத்தடி, s. [prov.] A stick with several prongs, or a similar contrivance to take out the fibre from palmyra pulp. 25)

kuṭi (p. 116) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To drink, to take drink, பருக. 2. To inhale, உறிஞ்ச. 3. To tipple, to guzzle, to drink toddy or arrack, to drink to excess, மதுவுண்ண. 4. To suck--as infants or other young creatures, முலையுண்ண. 5. To devour, to quaff, மண்ட. 6. To take or swallow-as liquid medicines, &c., மருந்துகுடிக்க. 7. (fig.) To absorb, to imbibe, உட்கொள்ள. 8. To smoke--as tobacco, &c. உயிர்குடித்தன்றிநில்லா. Not stopping except to drink the lives of those around. குடியாதவீடுவிடியாது. No tippler is content unless he drinks. குடிவெறிஅடிபடத்தீரும். Flogging is a sure remedy for intoxication. நல்லபால்குடித்துவளர்ந்தவன். One who has been virtuously brought up. நிலந்தண்ணீரைக்குடித்துவிட்டது. The earth has drunk up or absorbed the water. பால்குடிக்கிறகுழந்தை. A child at the breast. குடிகாரன்--குடியன் s. A drunkard, a tippler, வெறியன். குடிமதம், s.
