kūntl (p. 134) s. [probably an elongation of the Sans. Kuntala, hair.] Any thing long and flowing in detached parts--as tresses, braids, &c., of women's hair பெண்மயிர். 2. A peacock's tail, மயிற்றோகை. 3. A horse's mane, குதிரைப்பிடரிமயிர். 4. The leaves of palmyra, and areca trees, கமுகு பனையிவற்றி னோலை. 5. Jaggery tree, a palm, கூந்தற்பனை. (சது.) 6. [prov.] Cocoa leaf rib, ornamented with tinsel stuck into a soft substance as a decoration; also; young white cocoa leaves, split and hung up as an ornament, கூந்தற்சல்லி. 7. The stems shooting from a bunch of areca-nuts, கமுகங்குலைக்கூந்தல். 8. The hair on an elephant's neck--a short kind of mane, யானைக்கழுத்துமயிர். 9. Filaments, threads, fibres, fringes, பூமுதலியவற் றின்கூந்தல். Note.--அம்மையார்கூந்தல், சவரியார் கூந்தல், நிலக்கூந்தல், மெல்லியார்கூந்தல், are varieties of plants. See these words. கூந்தலாற்ற, inf. A sharp nail, pin, &c. கூரியது, s. That which is sharp. கூர்க்கொம்பு--கூர்ங்கொம்பு, s. A sharppointed horn. கூர்ங்கணை--கூரம்பு, s. A sharp arrow. கூர்ங்கண், s. Sharp, piercing eyes. கூர்மூக்கு, s. A sharp-pointed nose. கூர்ம்பல், s. A sharp tooth. (p.) கூரியபுத்தி, s. Sharp intellect, penetration. கூரியன், s. A sharp, clever person, கூர் மையுள்ளவன். கூர்மைகாட்ட, inf. kūcu (p. 133) கிறேன், கூசினேன், வேன், கூச, v. n. To be shy, bashful, coy, diffident; to shrink back, to be timid, ashamed, அஞ்ச, நாண. 2. To be tender or weak--as an eye, a foot, &c., or as teeth set on edge, கண்முதலியகூச. 3. (fig.) To recoil--as a hand or foot, through fear, sorrow, delicacy, deference, &c., அச்சக்குறிப்புக்காட்ட. 4. To be ticklish, to shrink from tickling, கூச்சங்கொள்ள. பல்லுக்கூசுகிறது. My teeth are set on edge. கூசாமற்பேச, inf. To speak without fear, or diffidence. 2. To declare without reserve. கூசிப்பார்க்க--கூசிவிழிக்க, inf. To look with tender eyes. 2. To squint, to look with the eyes half shut, and the eye-brows knit. கூ கண்கூச, inf. To be weak in sight. To be loth to think evil of one. வாய்கூச, inf. To be reluctant to utter improper things, &c. கூச்சம்--கூசல் v. noun. Shyness, bashfulness, diffidence, shame-facedness; modesty, delicacy, நாணம். 2. Tenderness or weakness of a limb, an eye, &c., causing a shrinking from its functions, &c., பல்முதலியகூசுகை. 3. Ticklishness, tickling, titilation, கூசுகை. 4. Timidity, fear, apprehension, அச்சம். 5. [local.] Properly. கூர்ச்சம்; which see. அக்குள்பாய்ச்சினாற்கூச்சமாயிருக்கும். If you put your fingers in one's arm-pit, he will feel ticklish. கூச்சக்காரன், s. A shy person. 2. A ticklish person. 3. A bashful, diffident person. கூச்சங்காட்ட--கூச்சப்படுத்த, inf. To tickle, titilate. கூச்சந்தெளிய, inf. To overcome shyness, &c. 2. To get rid of, or out-grow ticklishness. கூச்சந்தெளிந்தவன்--கூச்சமில்லாதவன் --கூச்சந்தீர்ந்தவன், s. One that has overcome shyness; one no longer bashful. கூச்சப்பட, inf. To be shy. 2. kūvu (p. 136) கிறது, கூவினது--கூயிற்று, ம், கூவ, v. n. [in the gerund, it is sometimes கூய் instead of கூவி.] To crow--as a cock, சேவல் முதலியனகூவ. 2. To coo, to sing, to warble --as birds; to scream--as a peacock, பறவை யொலிக்க. 3. v. a. To call, to whoop, to halloo, கூப்பிட. 4. (p.) To utter, proclaim, சொல்ல. 5. v. n. To scold at, to brawl, அதட்ட. 6. To cry--as a child; to bawl, அழ. In poetry like other similar words, it makes the past in கூவியது, கூயினது and கூயது. குயில்கூவினாற்போல். Like the warbling of the குயில் bird. இடும்பியைக்கூவியங்ஙனங்குறுகினான். He repaired to the place, calling இடும்பி. (பார.) கூவுவான், s. The cock; lit. the crower. கூவல்--கூப்பு, v. noun. A recipient, a receptacle of the soul, சரீரம். 5. A case, a sheath, உறை. 6. A testaceous, or mud shell of some insects; a cocoon, புழுக்கூடு. 7. [in carpentry.] A mortise; also, groove, கழுந்துக்கூடு. 8. A case for catching fish, மீன்பறி. 9. A covering of a cart-- as கூடாரம். (Sans. Gut'ha, to envelope, screen.) கூட்டோடேபோச்சுது குளிருங்காய்ச்சலும். The fever and ague have gone off with the case (the body); i. e. the person has died. கூடுகட்ட, inf. To build nests, cases, &c.--as birds, caterpillars, bees, &c. 2. To make cages, hives, &c. 3. To put a case or covering on fruits, &c. கூட்டிலடைக்க, inf. To inclose in a cage, to encage, to coop up. 2. To enclose a charm, a talisman or an amulet in a casket. கூட்டுப்பல்லக்கு, s. [prov.] A palankeen with sliding doors. கூடுபோட--கூடுவிட, inf. To die; lit. to drop the body. கூடுவிட்டுக்கூடுபாய, inf. To leave its own body at pleasure and enter another, or an inanimate thing--as the soul is feigned to do; a magic art. கூடுங்கழுந்தும், s.
