koṉṟai (p. 147) s. [improp. கொன்னை.] A genus of flower trees, கடுக்கை. Cassia,L. சரக்கொன்றை, சிறுகொன்றை, செழுமலர்க்கொன் றை, திருக்கொன்றை, புலிநகக்கொன்றை, பெருங் கொன்றை, பொற்கொன்றை, மயிர்க்கொன்றை, முட் கொன்றை, are varieties of கொன்றை. See those words. கொன்றைக்காய், s. The pods of the Cassia fistula--are sold as a drug, the pulp of them is taken as an electuary for costiveness, the flowers are also used medicinally. [Ainslie vol. l. p. 66.] கோ 9. A tender, cartilaginous part of the body, மெல்லியது--as in மூக்காங் கொழுந்து, நெஞ்சாங்கொழுந்து, &c. கொழுந்திலை, s. A tender leaf. கொழுந்துக்கால், s. Sticks, stakes, &c., set to support betel-runners, கொடிக்கால். கொழுந்துகிள்ள, inf. To nip or cut off the shoots of plants, when too rank, to make them productive; also, to in jure or destroy them. 2. (p.) To destroy the young heir of a family. கொழுந்துநட, inf. To plant betel, and other cuttings. கொழுந்துபதிக்க, inf.
