Existence, and life, as distinguished from birth, or death, இருப்பு. (வைரா. 18.) திதிகர்த்தா--திதிபரன், s. The deity, as Preserver, விஷ்ணு. 2. The deity, as awarding to creatures, in this life, the fruits of their former actions. திதிகாலம், s. Time of preservation by the deity. 2. Life-time, ஆயுள். திதிப்பிரகரணம், s. The stage, the period or state of preservation of creatures. திதியதிகாரசத்தி, s. The active power or energy of deity as exercised in the continuance and operations of nature-vulgarly ascribed to Vishnu. 61)

tīvu (p. 244) s. An island, கடலிடைக்குறை. 2. (for தீபம்.) Any one of the seven islands, or continents, supposed to form the world in which we dwell. They are most of them; 1. நாவலந்தீவு, the continent on which we live, from the நாவல் or சம்பு tree, said to abound in it, south of மகாமேரு. 2. இறலித்தீவு, the next adjacent circumambient continent, named from that species of fig tree, Ficus. L. 3. குசைத்தீவு. named from குசை or Darb`ha grass. 4. கிர வுஞ்சம், from the bird, அன்றில், inhabiting it. 5. புட்கரத்தீவு, from the lotus, said to be there. 6. தெங்கந்தீவு, as having many cocoa-nuttrees. 7. கமுகந்தீவு, abounding in the areca. In Sanscrit, Jambu, Kusa, Plaksha, Salmali, Krauncha, Saka, and Pushkara. து துப்பு, v. noun. Provisions, food, உணவு. 2. Experience, enjoyment, fruition, fruit of former deeds, அனுபவம். 3. Drink, beverage, பானம். துப்பார்க்குத்துப்பாயதுப்பாக்கி. Furnishing agreeable articles of food to those who eat. குறள். 21)

To remove obstructions, impediments entanglements, &c. கீழ்த்தடக்கு. Obstructions in the road, as stones, &c. மேற்றடக்கு. Obstructions from trees, &c, over head. 58)

tattam (p. 223) s. Gift, present, donation, grant--as land, &c., with due formality, in presence of witnesses human or divine, ஈகை.--Note. The sun is often appealed to as witness, and water is poured, by the bestower of a grant or gift, on betelleaf and gold in the right hand of the receiver. 2. Adoption, சுவிகாரம். (Sans. Datta) (c.) எள்ளுந்தண்ணீரும்விட்டுத்தத்தம்பண்ணிவிட்டேன். I gave the gift with water mixed with sesamum seed; (implying permanence.) தத்தங்கொடுக்க, inf. To give in adoption. தத்தபுத்திரன், s. An adopted son. தத்தம்பண்ண, inf. To make a grant, donations, &c. தத்தம்பண்ணிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To give with proper formality. தத்தம்பண்ணிவிட, inf. To devote a piece of land, a cow, &c., to a temple or a brahman. தத்தம்வாங்கிக்கொள்ள, inf. To adopt. தாராதத்தம், s. (St.) Giving a girl in marriage by placing betel-leaf, paddy, and gold in her hand, and pouring water on these, the god of fire being invoked as a witness. He is supposed in stand on the top of the flame on the occasion; [ex தாரா, wife.]. மனோதத்தம், s. Purpose formed in the mind to make a grant. 2. A vow to a deity who is called to witness. (p.) வாக்குத்தத்தம், s. A promise, gift of the mouth. (c.) 35)

tngku (p. 221) கிறேன், தங்கினேன், வேன், தங்க, v. n. To stay, to sojourn, to lodge, to halt, to wait, to stand still, வைக. 2. To rest, to be seated, to have a place, residence, &c., ஓய்ந்திருக்க. 3. To cease to flow, as the menses; to be obstructed in its course, as water; to be stopped, as a floating thing or a car; to be fixed as substance between the teeth; to adhere, or inhere, தடைபட. 4. To hesitate in speaking, தாமதிக்க. 5. To be reserved or kept back, to remain due, இருப்பாயிருக்க. 6. To rely or depend on, to be dependent, சார்ந்திருக்க. 7. To continue as property or prosperity; to be retained in the mind, நிலைபெற்றிருக்க. (c.) அவன்கையிலேபணந்தங்காது. Money will not stay in his hand. வயிற்றிலேயொன்றுந்தங்குகிறதில்லை. Nothing remains in his bowels. தங்கித்தங்கிவாசிக்க, inf. To read with hesitation, difficulty, stopping, &c. தங்கிநின்றமழை, s. [prov.] Rain after cessation and drought. தங்கிவிழ, inf. To be impeded in falling--as fruits, &c., and then to fall afterwards. தங்கு, v. noun. Staying, stopping, தங் குதல். தங்குகடலுக்குப்போக--தங்குதோணிக் குப்போக, inf. [prov. vul.] To go on a fishing trip for a few days. தங்குதடை, s. Hesitation, impediment, (c.) தங்குதண்ணீர், s. Water lodged in hollows after rain, &c. 2. Water collected in a well. 3. Irrigation of a field or garden, after a lapse of the proper time. 4. Water lodged on foliage, roofs, &c, and then dropping. கூரைத்தண்ணீர். 5. Water impeded for a time and then flowing with force, on the removal of the obstruction. தங்குதண்ணீரிறைக்க, inf. [prov.] To irrigate after some delay. தங்குதரி--தங்குதரிப்பு, v. noun. Stopping, halting; impediment, a pleonastic form. See தரி. தங்குதுறை, s. [prov.] A port at which a vessel touches. தங்குவலை, s. [prov.] A net cast into the sea, and left for some hours, to catch fish. 25)
