taṟ (p. 230) [prop. தத்.] A Sanscrit prefix in Tamil, the த் being changed to ற் before க், ச், ப். தற்காலம், s. The exact precise time of an action or occurrence, the expected time, the given time being, நிகழ்காலம். 3. Coincidence in time, அக்காலம். 4. [astron.] A given time for which calculation is made.--Note. This word is often used synonymously with தற்காலசுத்தபுடம், which see. தற்காலகிரகநிலை, s. Planetary positions at a given time. 2. The horoscope at the moment of birth. (A term used in nativities.) தற்காலசுத்தபுடம், s. The true longitude or position of a planet at a fixed time. தற்காலமத்திமம், s. The mean longitude at a given time. தற்காலவிலை, s. The price at the time. தற்காலவிலைப்படிதருவேன். I will give as the price may be at the time. தற்காலிக்க, inf. [in astron.] To determine longitude, &c., for a given time, to make a reduction in the elements of calculation of the time given or sought. தற்சணம்--தச்சணம்--தட்சணம்--த க்ஷணம், s. The very moment, not a moment intervening, உடனே. 2. The present moment, அந்தக்ஷணம். தற்சம்ம, s. Words from the Sanscrit used in Tamil, or any of the other cognate languages, without change--as கமலம், the letters of which are the same in Sanscrit and Tamil, but சக்தி in Tamil, is சக்தி in Sanscrit. (சது.) தற்சமயம், s. The particular juncture, the exact moment required, அச்சமயம். 2. The best opportunity, a special season or juncture, உற்றசமயம். தற்பதம், s. Deity, கடவுள். (சது.) தற்பரம்--தற்பரன், s. Absolute deity independent of agencies, assumed energies or operations; i. e. deity quiescent or the male principle in the deity, கடவுள். 2. Siva, சிவன். தற்பரை, s. The Sakti, or female principle of deity, சத்தி. 2. [in astron.] The thirtieth part of the twinkling of an eye, ஒருமாத்திரையில்முப்பதிலொன்று. தற்பவம், s. tampam (p. 223) --ஸ்தம்பம், s. Post, pillar, column, obelisk, தூண். 2. A post for tying an elephant, யானைத்தறி. 3. Staff, walking stick, support, பற்றுக்கோடு. 4. Fixed posture standing, நிலை. 5. Armor, coat of mail, கவசம். 6. Concert of music, சங்கீதம். 7. Flag-staff, mast, துசஸ்தம்பம். 8. (com. for தம்பளம்.) Enchantment, fascination, stopping by magic, &c. தம்பாகாரமாய். Like a pillar. தம்பம்நிறுத்த, inf. To set up a post, or pillar in celebration of a victory, or as a memorial of the munificence of the prince. தம்பாகிருதி, s. Cylinder. See ஆகிருதி. அக்கினிஸ்தம்பம், s. Pillar of fire. See under அக்கினி. மேகஸ்தம்பம், s. (Christ. usage.) Pillar of cloud.

tuṭi (p. 245) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To quiver, shake, throb, flutter, palpitate, flounder as a fish thrown ashore, அசைய. 2. To be rude, mischievous, giddy, roguish, குதிக்க. 3. To be anxious through suspense; to be eager, to be in great agitation, தத்தளிக்க. 4. To shine, glitter, corruscate, lighten, மின்ன. 5. (fig.) To suffer by the gnawings of hunger, பசியினால்வருந்த. (c.) துடித்துப்பதைத்துவந்தான். He came in extreme anxiety, and agitation. பெற்றகுடல்துடிக்கிறது. The mother yearns over her child; (lit.) her bowels yearn. அரணைவால்துடிக்கின்றது. The tail of the lizard (cut off) leaps. பிள்ளைதுடிக்கிறது. The child is fidgety, rude, &c. கண்துடிக்க, inf. To quiver or throb as the eye, supposed to be indicative of good or ill, to the person or his relations.--Note. If the right eye or other right part of a man throb, it is deemed a good sign, but of a woman it is bad and vice versa. மனந்துடிக்க, inf. To be agitated, as the mind, through anxiety, anger, disappointments. துடி, v. noun. Quivering, palpitating, dancing, &c. துடிசாத்திரம்--துடிநூல், s. The art of determining events by the quivering of different parts of the body, also works treating on the art, ஓர்நிமித்தநூல். துடிதுடிக்க, inf. To quiver, throb, flutter, பதைபதைக்க. 2. To be rude, fidgety, mischievous, கடுகடுக்க. (c.) துடித்தல்--துடிப்பு--துடிதுடிப்பு. v. noun. Quivering, throbbing, fluttering, பதைபதைப்பு. 2. Rudeness, mischief, கடு கடுப்பு. 3. Great anxiety. சரீரந்துடித்தல், v. noun. Quivering of the body, supposed to occur of itself in case of the sickness of a relative, also at the sight of one suffering, or through anger. துடியானவன், appel. n. A strong, robust man, பலாஷ்டிகன். 41)

The tamil language, தமிழ்ப்பாஷை; of which there are two principal divisions, செந்தமிழ், high, or polished Tamil and கொடுந்தமிழ், common, or unpolished Tamil. A further division is இயற்றமிழ், prose, இசைத்தமிழ், poetic, and நாடகத்தமிழ், dramatic Tamil. For particulars, see these in their places. 3. Nature, state, quality, நீர்மை--Note. (p.) தமிழ்திருப்ப--தமிழ்ப்படுத்த, inf. To translate into Tamil. தமிழ்க்கூத்தர்--தமிழ்கூத்தர், s. Tamil dramatists or dancers. தமிழ்ச்சொல், s. Tamil word. தமிழ்நடை, s. The order, walk, or going of the Tamil language; i. e. its idiom. தமிழ்நாடன், s. Any king of the Pandyan race. தமிழ்நாடு, s. The Tamil country. See திராவிடம். 2. The Madura district. The books தே வாரம், and திருவாசகம்; also the குறள், of the poet, திருவள்ளுவர், is so called in eulogy. செந்தமிழ்நாடு, s. The districts where pure Tamil was spoken. See செந்தமிழ். கொடுந்தமிழ்நாடு. s. The twelve districts around the Madura kingdom, in the Tamil of which, irregularities and provincialisms weer found; as stated in the following stanza-தென்பாண்டி, குட்டம், குடம், கற்கா, வேண், பூழி பன்றி, அருவா, அதன்வடக்கு--நன்றாய சீதம், மலாடு, புனனாடு, செந்தமிழ் சேர் ஏதமில் பன்னிரு நாட்டெண். 114)
