tampaṉam (p. 224) --ஸ்தம்பனம், s. (sometimes தம்பம்.) Stopping, restraining, hindering the power of fire; stopping a flow of water or blood; checking the ferocity of wild beasts; causing a person or spirit to stand immovably in a place; suppressing bodily faculties; depriving one of the power of speech, action, motion; suspending natural qualities, அசைவறநிறுத்துகை.-There are different kinds, as அக்கினித்தம்ப னம், கட்கத்தம்பனம், சலத்தம்பனம், சுக்கிலத்தம்ப னம், திஷ்டித்தம்பனம், பூதத்தம்பனம், வாயுத்தம்பனம், which see in their places, as given with ஸ்தம்பம் termination and in கலைஞானம். தம்பனகாரன்--தம்பனவித்தைக்காரன், s. A magician, a conjurer who exercises magic powers to stop or restrain as above. தம்பனக்குளிகை, s. A magical pill. See குளிகை. தம்பனவித்தை. That art of restraining by magic. கன்னத்தம்பனம், s. Stopping the discovery of hidden things. 5)

tvkkm (p. 227) s. (Tel. தவகுட.) Destitution, want, absolute need, scarceness, இல்லாமை. 2. Anxiety, solicitude, longing for supplies, &c., சஞ்சலம். 3. Hinderance, impediment, தடை. 4. Scarcity--as of rain, supplies of grain, &c., குறைவு. (c.) வேலையல்லோதவக்கமாய்ப்போகும். The work will go undone. தண்ணீர்த்தவக்கத்தினால்பயிரேறவில்லை. There is no grain for want of water. தவக்கப்பட, inf. To be in a distressed condition. 2. To be delayed. தவக்கமாய்த்திரிய, inf. To go about hungry, in distress from want, or with a sad melancholy countenance. மழைத்தவக்கம், s. Want of rain. 3)

To remove a boundary or a landmark, எல்லைபெயர்த்திட. 14. To turn over, to turn back the leaves of a book, திருப்ப. 15. To put forth, to yield as clusters of fruits, குலைதள்ள. 16. (with காலம்.) To pass one's days. (c.) வாயாலும்வயிற்றாலுந்கொண்டுவந்துதள்ளிவிட்டது. It has operated both upward and downward. சனந்தள்ளிச்சாய்கிறது. The people are passing in crowds. (prov.) சுவாமீஎன்னைத்தள்ளாதிரும், O Lord! cast me not off. தத்துத்தள்ளிப்போயிற்று. The danger is past. பாக்கியைத்தள்ளிக்கொண்டான். He forgave a part of the debt. பத்துநாள்தள்ளித்தருவேன். Walk faster, push forward. தள்ளிப்போ. Go further off. தள்ளியிரு. Sit a little further. தள்ளிவாசி. Read further on. தள்ளிப்பாட, inf. To shorten the measure in singing, by rejecting one full syllable. தள்ளிப்போட--தள்ளிவிட, inf. To reject, dismiss. தள்ளிவைக்க, inf. To set a thing a little further off. 2. To cast off or exclude from society. 3. To suspend from an office, &c. 4. To excommunicate. தள்ளுதல், v. noun. Pushing, discounting, banishment, &c., as தள்ளு. தள்ளுதலின்சீட்டு, s. A bill of divorcement. தள்ளுபாடு, v. noun. Being rejected. சந்திரனொன்றுதள்ளியோடுதல், v. noun. Moon's passing within one of the stars of Magha (மகம்) the tenth lunar mansion, or Leo in the Zodiac.--Note. This transit is made the ground of prediction concerning rain, which will be most abundant if only one star is passed, and least, or none at all, if the four are passed. காலந்தள்ள, inf.
