nāmm (p. 273) s. Name, appellation, especially of a deity, பெயர். W. p. 461. NAMAN. 2. [vul. ராமம்.] The Vaishnuva sectarian mark on the forehead, திருநாமம். (சது.) 3. The white clay, or earth, used for the tridental mark, திருமண். (c.) 4. Reputation, celebrity, கீர்த்தி. 5. That part of the scales which incloses the needle, நிறைகோலின்நடு. 6. Fear, அச்சம்.--There are in use two kinds of marks, as பட்டைநாமம், a large mark worn by some Vaishnuvas ostentatiously; கிள்ளுநாமம், கீறுநாமம், a small mark worn in compliance with custom. நாமகரணம், s. (St.) Naming a child, commonly on the twelfth day for the brahman castes, the thirteenth for the royal caste, &c., being the day after purification. நாமகரணம்பண்ணுதல், v. noun. Naming a child with prescribed ceremonies. நாமக்கட்டி, s. Lumps of white clay, as நாமம், 3. நாமக்காரர், s. [plu.] Vaishnuvas. See நாமதாரி. நாமக்குச்சரி--நாமக்குச்சிலி, s. A woman's cloth of divers colours, ஓர்சேலை; [ex நாமம், the tridental mark.] நாமக்கூசா, s. A goglet made of whte clay. நாமசங்கீர்த்தனம், s. Praising the name (of Vishnu.) நாமஞ்சாத்த--நாமஞ்சூட, inf. To invest with a name, பெயரிட. 2. To wear the Vaishnuva mark. நாமஸ்தோத்திரம், s. Praise of a deity. நாமஸ்மரணை, s. Mental recollection of the name of a deity. நாமதாரணம், s. Bearing a name. 2. Wearing the Vaishnuva mark. நாமதாரணை, s. The first of the nine தாரணை, the worship of God under a name, or through an image. See தாரணை. நாமதாரி, appel. n. A worshipper of Vishnu as wearing the நாமம், நாமதாரி. நாமதேயம், s. A name given, or appellation, பெயர். (Sa Namadheya.) உம்முடையநாமதேயமென்ன. What is your given name? நாமம்தரிக்க--நாமமிட, inf. To take, have, or be invested with, a name. 2. To give a name. 3. To wear the Vaishnuva mark. நாமப்பொருத்தம், s. nāḷ (p. 275) s. [Gen. நாளின், acc. நாளை, poet. நாளினை.] A day of twenty-four hours, a natural day, from sun rise to sun rise, இராப்பகல்கொண்டபொழுது. 2. Time in general, காலம். 3. An auspicious day, பெரு நாள். 4. A lunar asterism. See நட்சத்தி ரம். (c.) 5. A lunar or astrological day; the period of the moon's passage through an asterism, சந்திரனாள். 6. The name of a metrical foot of the class. அசைச்சீர். 7. adj. New, as நாட்பூ--Note. In combination, the last letter is changed by rule. நாளொருவண்ணமும்பொழுதொருமேனியுமாய்வளர் ந்துவிட்டது. It has grown every day and every hour. நாள்வாய்பெறினும். Even in the early part of the day. (p.) இதுஅதுக்குநாளல்ல. This is not the proper time or season. நாடோறும், adv. [for நாள்தோறும்.] Daily. 2. Always. நாட்கடத்த--நாள்கடத்த, inf. To pass away time, நாள்கழிக்க. 2. To put off from day to day. நாட்கணக்கு, s. Daily accounts. 2. The term, or appointed end of one's life, வாழ்நாளின்முடிவு. நாட்கழிவு--நாள்கழிவு. v. noun. The passing of time. 2. Deduction of days in payment. நாட்காரியம், s. A thing of urgent necessity to be done on an auspicious day. நாட்கால், s. [prov.] The first post of the wedding shed, or of a new building, set up on an auspicious day, மணப்பந்த ருக்குமுதனாட்டுங்கால். நாட்குறிக்க, inf. To appoint a day. நாட்கூலி, s. Daily hire. நாட்கொள்ள, inf. To enter on work or business, especially on an auspicious day. நாட்செலவு, v. noun. Daily expenses. 2. Flight of time or passing of days. நாட்செல்ல--நாள்செல்ல, inf. To pass, as days or time. நாட்பட--நாள்பட, inf. As நாட்செல்ல. 2. To be long standing, as a chromic disease, நிலைநிற்க. 3. To become old, பழ மையாக. 4. To be long acted on by air, water, &c. நாட்படவந்தான். He came after many days. நாட்பட்டகாரியம். A thing out of date. 2. A thng of long standing. நாட்பட்டசரக்கு. Old wares or commodities. நாட்பட்டமரம். An old tree. நாட்பார்க்க--நாள்பார்க்க, inf. To find an auspicious day. நாட்பூ--நாண்மலர், s. A new-blown flower. (poetic.) நாட்பொருத்தம், s. Agreement of the lunar constellations in the horoscope of persons to be united in marriage. See தசப்பொருத்தம். 2. One of the ten things in the choice of the first word of a poem. See செய்யுட்பொருத்தம். 3. The class of lunar mansion connected with one's nacshatra, நாளினன்மை. நாளறுதி, s. Expiration of a term. 2. From time to time, gradually, நாள்வட்டம். நாளாக, inf. To pass away as time. அவன்வந்துவெகுநாளாயிற்று. It is a long time since he came. நாளாகமம், s. A chronicle, a book of annals. நாளாசிறுதிலே--நாளாவட்டத்திலே. See நாள்வட்டத்திலே. நாளிலே. By degrees. 2.
