pṉai (p. 304) s. A species of palm, the palmyra tree, ஓர்மரம். Borassus flabelliformis. 2. The seventeenth lunar asterism, அனுடநட்சத்தி ரம். (சது.)--Of palmyra species are different varieties: அலகுபனை or ஆண்பனை male pal myra tree; கூந்தற்பனை, Caryota; தாளிப்பனை the talipot tree. பருவப்பனை, பெண்பனை, female palmyra tree. See these in their places. In combination the final letter is changed according to rule. See தாழை. பனைமரத்தின் கீழிருந்துபாலைக்குடித்தாலுங் கள்ளென் றுசொல்லுவார்கள். If you drink only milk under a palmyra tree they will call it toddy. பனையினிழலும்நிழலோபகைவருறவுமுறவோ.
