Merit attaching to the soul at the expiration of each state of existence, to be enjoyed in other births, நல்லூழின்மீதி. புண்ணியதலம்--புண்ணியஸ்தலம், s. A place of resort for worship. புண்ணியதானம், s. Sacred gifts, made to brahmans, or others on special occasions. புண்ணியதிரணம், s. A sacrificial grass, white Kusa, வெண்டருப்பை; [ex திரணம், grass.] புண்ணியதினம். s. A holy day, adapted to religious duties. புண்ணியதீர்த்தம், s. Sacred bathing, a place for religious bathing. புண்ணியத்தானம்--புண்ணியஸ்தானம், [in astrol.] The ninth from the rising sign at birth. As புண்ணியவா ளன். புண்ணியபூ--புண்ணியபூமி, s. [also திவ் வியபூமி.] The holy land of the Hindus, central Asia, bounded on the north by the Hymalayas, south by the Vindya mountains, and on the east and west by the sea. புண்ணியமுதல்வன்--புண்ணியமூர்த்தி, s. The first in merit--God, கடவுள். 2. Buddha, புத்தன். புண்ணியம்பலித்தல், v. noun. The resulting of merit in earthly prosperity. புண்ணியராத்திரம், s. A propitious night for ceremonies; [ex ராத்திரம்=இராத் திரி.] புண்ணியவதி--புண்ணியவாட்டி, s. A meritorious woman. புண்ணியவாளன்--புண்ணியவான், s. [fem. புண்ணியவாட்டி.] A man of high religious character. புண்ணியன், s. A righteous being, divine or human. 2. Siva, சிவன். 3. Argha of the Jainas, அருகன். புண்ணியாகவாசனம், s. An appeasing or propitious ceremony, a peace-offering, ஓர்சடங்கு. 2. Purification of a house from any ceremonial defilement, ஆசூசநி வாரணம்.--Sans. differs. See W. p. 541. To be exposed to, in danger of, on the point of &c., when joined to other verbs; commonly in the past tense with போட or விட, as படப்போக, to hit; படப்போட, to strike. --Note. This word is joined to the infinitive of active verbs forming a passive, செயப்பாட்டுவினை; also of neuter verbs, in the sense of the substantive verb. It is also joined to nouns, forming compound verbs as கடன்பட, கட்டிபட, கண் பட, சினைப்பட, சேறுபட, நஷ்டப்பட, தனிப்பட, பொ துப்பட, &c., which see. உடுத்துப்படுத்துவந்தார். He dressed himself and came. என்மேல்வெயில்படுகிறது. The sun strikes me. கொஞ்சம்பட்டது. It injured slightly. மீன்படவில்லை. No fish are caught. ரகாரம்படஉச்சரி. Express the letter ர very distinctly. சந்தோஷப்பட்டேன். I obtained joy, rejoiced. வீடுநெருப்புப்பட்டது. The house took fire. வரப்பட்டதுன்பம். Suffering which ensued. பட்டகதையுற்றகதை. One's experience as related. பட்டபாடுங்கெட்டகேடுஞ்சொன்னான். He told all his sufferings and wrongs. பட்டுக்கிடப்பாய். May you be slain; an imprecation வருவதுசொன்னேன்படுவதுபடுவாய். I have told you what will come of it, you will be the sufferer. படுவதுபட்டும்பட்டத்துக்கிருக்கவேண்டும். To obtain office you must take great pains. பட்டாலறிவன் சண்டாளன். The base man feels only if he be punished. நான்விழுந்துபோகப்பட்டேன். I was just ready to fall. நாய்வாய்ப்பட்டதேன். Honey defiled by the mouth of a dog; i. e. a competent person rendered unfit by some misconduct. கால்படக்குற்றம்கைபடக்குற்றம். Displeased by the touch of a hand of foot. படாதபாடெல்லாம்பட்டேன். I bore indescribable suffering. படா--படாது--படாமல்--படாமே, [negatives.] Not convenient, that which does not hit, what is insufferable, &c. சிறுமீன்கள்பெருவலையிற்படா. Small fish are not caught in a large holed net. எனக்குமவனுக்கும்படாது. He and I do not agree. படாம். We will not suffer, as படமாட் டோம். படுகட்டை, s. A dead log, உலர்ந்த மரத்துண்டு. 2. Like the web of the leaf-rib [of cocoa] trodden in the battle-field. படுகாடு, s. A burning place for the dead, சுடுகாடு. படுகாயம், s. A mortal wound, சா வக்காயம். படுகாய்ச்சி, appel. n. [prov.] Tobacco growing on the old stumps, as an aftercrop, மறுதாம்புப்புகையிலை. 2. (fig.) An uncivil person, one of low extraction, உபசாரமறியாதவன். படுகிடங்கு--படுகுழி, s. A pit-fall. படுசூரணம், s. A compound medicinal powder, made by calcining some, and pulverizing other, ingredients, மருந்துத் தூள். 2. See படு, adj. படுஞாயிறு, s. The setting sun. 2. See படு, adj. படுதடி, s. [prov.] A dead stick, a black, &c., செத்தகொம்பு. இந்தப்படுதடியைநம்பிக்கடலிலேபோகிறோம்..... Confiding in this rotten bark, we are venturing out to sea. படுநிலம், s. Desert or barren ground, without water, நீரில்லாநிலம். 2. A burning or burying ground, மயானம். 3. As படுகளம். படுநெறி, s. A rough or rugged way. படுபொழுது, s. Sunset, மாலைப்பொழுது. படுமரம், s. A dead or dying tree, பட்டமரம். படுவதுபட்டவன், appel. n. One who has suffered much, been in low circumstances, is miserable. படுவான், appel. n. West, place of sunsetting, மேற்றிசை--Oppos. to எழுவான். 2. A mortal, அழிவான். படுவை, [2d per. sing. of படு, v.] Thou wilt suffer. பட்டமரம், s. A dead tree. பட்டம், [first person pl.] As பட்டோம், we suffered. பட்டனுபவித்தல்--பட்டுத்தரித்தல், v. noun.] suffering, experiencing, expiating. பட்டுங்கெட்டும்பார்த்தல், v. noun. Endeavoring amidst sufferings and losses. பட்டுத்தெளிய, inf. To learn by experience. பட்டுப்போக, inf. To set, to go down, 2. To be slain in battle. 3. To wither, fade, die. அவன்கவிபாடினால் பட்டுப்போனமரமும் துளிர்க் கும். If he chant, even he dead trees blossom. பட்டுமாய, inf. To suffer the consequences. பட்டுருவ, inf.
