aẕl (p. 32) --அழலு, கிறேன், அழன்றே ன், வேன், அழல. v. n. To burn, be hot, glow as coals on fire, கனல. 2. To be impatient, irritable; to burn with envy, jealousy, rage, கோபிக்க. 3. To smart as a wound, be inflamed as the body when poisoned with the bite of a snake, &c., to smart as the mouth after eating pungent spices, &c. எரிய. அழலிக்கை, v. noun. A burning, smart pang. அழற்சி, v. noun. Burning, heating, smarting, raging, &c. 2. s. Envy, jealousy, irritation, irritability, கோபம். 3)

nōy (p. 285) s. Malady, distemper, disease, ailment; sickness in men, cattle, trees, or crops, நைதல். 2. Chronic or settled disease, பழம்பிணி. 3. Suffering, trouble, affliction, distress of mind, வருத்தம். 4. Ache, pain, smart, அழலுகை. (c.) நோய்கொண்டார்பேய்கொண்டார். The diseased are like persons possessed. நோயும்பாயுமாய்கிடத்தல். Being bedridden. நோய்க்கிடங்கொடோல். Take sickness in time. (Avv.) நோயாளி, s. A sick person, a patient. நோயாளிவிதியாளியானால்பரிகாரிபோராளியாவான்..... If the patient's destiny be goof, the doctor gets the credit of it. நோயின்மை, v. noun. neg. Full, uninterrupted health and prosperity. நோயில்லாவாழ்வேவாழ்வு. That is prosperity which no sickness or disease interrupts. நோயெச்சம், s. A reduced disease. See எச்சம். (p.) நோய்கொள்ள--நோய்பிடிக்க, inf. To fall sick, to become diseased. நோய்மருந்து, s. Giving medicine to the sick. See அறம். நோய்விழ, inf. To be infected as plants, &c. தன்னோய்க்குத்தானேமருந்து. The one who caused the pain can remove it; spoken of a woman who has inspired love, (குறள்.) 12)

viriyṉ (p. 398) s. A snake, adder, viper, ஓர் பாம்பு.--Note. Eight kinds are mentioned; 1. அழல்விரியன், எரிவிரியன், the burning viper, so called from the burning pain caused by its bite; 2. இரத்தவிரியன், உதிரிவிரியன், the blood-viper of a red color, the bite of which causes the vomiting of blood; 3. ஊதுவிரியன், the tumefacient viper, the bite of which is followed by a swelling of the whole body; 4. எட்டடிவிரியன், a viper of eight feet, causing death when a person has gone that distance after being bitten, more properly, எட்டுவரிவிரியன், or one having eight stripes round the body. It is very poisonous; 5. சுட்டுவிரியன், the binding viper, its bite causing the joints of the body to become immovable. It is striped, black and white; 6. கழுதைவிரியன், a viper of slow motion like as ass, large and blackish; not very venomous; 7. புல் விரியன், the grass-adder; 8. பெருவிரியன், or கண்ணாடிவிரியன், the great, viper, whose poison is more active and deadly than that of any other serpent. செந்தலைவிரியன், s. A red-headed and dangerous viper. விதிமுடிந்தவனைவிரியன்கடிக்கும். A viper will bite one whose fate is to die. Prov. 4) *
