iccai (p. 45) s. Wish, desire, விருப் பம் Wils. p. 13. ICHCHA. 2. Intense desire, மிகுவிருப்பம். 3. Covetousness, lust, irregular or inordinate desire, துரிச்சை. 4. Inclination, choice, will, இஷ்டம். 5. (p.) Ignorance, அஞ்ஞானம். 6. Fasehood, பொய். 7. Expostulation, உறுதிச்சொல். இச்சாசத்தி, s. One of the three active or female energies of the deity-benevolence to souls or creatures, உயிர்க் கருணேசம். See சத்தி. (p.) இச்சாபத்தியம், s. Generous diet in sickness-but abstaining from venery--avoiding only what will disagree with medicine. இச்சாபோகம், s. The gratification of desires. (p.) இச்சைப்பட, inf. உயிர்
uyir (p. 63) s. Life, soul, vitality, animal or vegetable life, சீவன். 2. Wind, காற்று. 3. A vowel, உயிரெழுத்து. 4. A living being, human, brute, or vegetable; an animal, ஓரறி வுயிர்முதலியசீவராசி. உயிருமுடலும்போல. As closely united as the soul and body. உயிர்போய்விட்டது. Life is gone. மன்னுயிர்க்கிரங்குகிறது. To be compassionate to other living creatures. உயிரடங்க, inf. To be in a state of insensibility, be in a swoon, to be suspended as the vital powers. உயிரடைய, inf. To revive, to be reanimated. உயிரளபு--உயிரளபெடை, s. The lengthening of a vowel in verse. See அளபெடை. உயிரறுதியும். Till the very end of life. உயிருதவி, s. Aid in a fatal juncture. 2. Aid by sacrificing life for another. உயிரெடுக்க, inf. To take away life. உயிரெழுத்து, s. A vowel, ஆவி. உயிரொடுங்க, inf. To be reduced as the powers before death, உயிரடங்க. 2. To die, சாவ. உயிரொளிக்க, inf. [prov.] To feign great weakness, sickness, inability, &c., in order to gain or effect an object, உயிர்மறைக்க. உயிரொளித்தகள்ளன், s. A cringing deceiver who though rich and strong makes pretensions to the contrary. உயிரோம்ப, inf. To support life, maintain, உயிர்காக்க. உயிர்கலக்க, inf. To revive, to be diffused--as life through the body in one that has been swooning, &c. 2. To reunite as the soul with the body in one restored to life. 3. (fig.) To be relieved from anxiety, &c. உயிர்குடிக்க, inf. To devour life, kill (a war term), also used of demons and ferocious deities, கொல்ல. உயிர்கொள்ள, inf. To take the life of an antagonist--as in battle, &c., உயிர்வாங்க. உயிர்க்கட்டை, s. The body, உடம்பு. உயிர்க்கணம், s. One of the four auspicious feet with which to begin a poem consisting of three நேர்--as தே, மாங், காய். 2. Vowels, உயிரெழுத்து. See கணம். உயிர்க்கருணேசம், s. The power of affection which is friendly to life, இச்சாசத்தி. உயிர்தருமருந்து, s. A restorative, a cordial, an elixir, மிருதசஞ்சீவினி. உயிர்த்தறுவாய், s. A great emergency, a critical juncture, extreme danger. See பிராணத்தறுவாய். உயிர்த்தானம், s. The seat of life, any vital part of the body, உயிர்நிலை. உயிர்த்துணை, s. A friend in extremity, ஆபத்திற்சகாயஞ்செய்பவன். 2. A friend dear as life, பிராணசிநேகன். 3. (p.) A wife, மனைவி. 4. A husband, கணவன். 5. God, கடவுள். உயிர்த்துணைவன், s. A very dear friend, உயிரையொத்தசிநேகன். 2. (p.) A husband, கண்வன். உயிர்த்துணைவி, s. A wife, மனைவி. 2. A lady's choice female friend, உயிர்த் தோழி. 3. Sarasvati the consort of Bramah, சரச்சுவதி. (p.) உயிர்த்தோழமை, s. Intimate friendship. உயிர்த்தோழன், s. A very trusty or bosom friend, a friend dear as life, பிராணசிநேகன். உயிர்த்தோழி, s. A lady's choice female companion, உயிர்ப்பாங்கி. உயிர்நிலை--உயிர்நிலையகம், s. The body as the seat of life, or station of the soul, உடல். 2. The vital parts essential to life, உயிர்த்தானம். உயிர்பிழைக்க--உயிருய்ய, inf. To survive a calamity, escape from, or live through a time of peril, தப்பிப்பிழைக்க. 2. To live, maintain life, subsist, உயிர் வாழ. உயிர்போக, inf. To expire, to die. உயிர்ப்பழி, s. The guilt of murder, உயிர்க்கொலை. 2. Vengeance, divine or human, persuing the murderer to death, regarded as the ghost of the murdered person, பிரமகத்தி. உயிர்ப்பிராணி, s. [vul.] A living creature, a brute, an inferior animal, சீவபிராணி. உயிர்மாய்க்க, inf. To destroy one's self, commit suicide, தன்னுயிரைப்போக்க. 2. To murder, kill, கொலைசெய்ய. உயிர்மெய்--உயிர்மெய்யெழுத்து, s. An animated consonant, a consonant combined with a vowel, ஓரெழுத்து; (lit.) a living body. உயிர்வாங்க, inf. To take away life, உயிரெடுக்க. உயிர்வாழ்க்கை, s. The enjoyment of life, சீவிக்கை. உயிர்வாழ, inf. To live--as men or brutes, சீவனோடிருக்க. 2. To enjoy life, be happy, prosperous, சுகமாகவாழ. உயிர்வேதனை, s. Causes of pain or distress, of which twelve are given, viz.: 1. அனல், heat or fire. 2. சீதம், cold. 3. அசனி, thunder-bolts. 4. புனல், water. 5. வாதம், wind. 6. ஆயுதம், weapons. 7. நஞ்சு, poisons. 8. மருந்து, medicines. 9. பசி, hunger. 1. தாகம், thirst. 11. பிணி, disease. 12. முனிவறாமை, malice. (p.) உள்ளுயிர், s. The life within; i. e. God, கடவுள். (p.) மன்னுயிர்க்கிரங்க, inf. To be kind to living creatures. (p.) 21)
சத்தி
catti (p. 159) s. Ability, power, strength, energy, prowess, வல்லமை. 2. The female energy or active power of deity in all the operations of creating, preserving, destroying, &c., பராசத்திமுதலியன.--Note. Each form of the deity is represented as having a distinct சத்தி described as his consort. 3. A name of பார்வதி. 4. The female organ, as the counter part of the phallic emblem of Siva, ஆவிடையார். 5. An iron spear or dart, கைவேல். W. p. 824. SAKTI. 6. Sulphur, கந்தகம். 7. Soap, சவக்காரம். 8. Bismuth pyrites, நிமிளை. 9. [for சத்திரம்.] An umbrella or parasol, குடை. 1. The white parasol as a badge of royalty, வெண்குடை. 11. Pursuit after works, ceremonies, &c., as one of the five சிவதத்துவம்.--Note. The three saktis are, 1. இச்சாசத்தி. 2. ஞானாசத்தி. 3. கிரியாசத்தி, which see. To these are added சிறசத்தி, and பராசத்தி. Others add 1. திரோதானசத்தி. 2. மாயாசத்தி. 3. விந்துச்சத்தி. சத்திக்குத்தக்கதாய்ச்செய். Do according to your ability. அதெனக்குச்சத்தியாய்க்கிடைக்கும். I shall eventually get it. சத்திகுறைய, inf. To be wanting in strength. சத்திசெலுத்த, inf. To authorise. (p.) சத்திபூசை, s. The puja-worship of the வாமர் sect, performed in secret with raw flesh, ardent spirit, &c. The object of worship being the privities of a naked woman, in personification of the fecundating and operative principle of deity in nature. சத்தியுள்ளவன், s. A rich man, a man of influence. (c.) சத்தியில்லாதவன், s. An incompetent person, a weak person. (c.) சத்திவிளங்க, inf. [loc.] To become manifest as power, a miraculous power. அருட்சத்தி, s. [in சிவஞானபோதம்.] The active energy of deity which is said to enlighten the soul and to be a source of benefit to all animated beings. சிவசத்தி, s. Sakti, or active power considered in its inseparable connection with Siva. (சிவ.சி.) 2. (R.) The consort of Siva, பார்வதி. 3. Siva and his consort. திரவியசத்தி, s. Pecuniary ability. மந்திரசத்தி, s. The force or virtue of incantations. சரீரசத்தி, s. Bodily power, vigor of body. பிரபுத்துவசத்தி, s. Princely dignity, power of rank, &c. வீரசத்தி, s. Valor. 51) *

A shrub, செவ்வெருக்கு. 5. A mountain containing copper, செம்புமலை. சூரியகடிகாரம்--சூரியகடியாரம், s. A sun-dial. சூரியகணம், s. One of the four inauspicious feet, in poetry. See அட்டக ணம், under கணம். சூரியகதி, s. The progress of the sun in his orbit, daily, monthly or annually. சூரியகரந்தை, s. A plant. See கரந்தை. சூரியகலை, s. Breath of the right nostril. (See சந்திரகலை.) 2. (fig.) The right nostril, பிங்கலை. சூரியகளை, s. The sun's brightness. See களை. சூரியகாந்தச்சிலை, s. As சூரியகாந்தம். சூரியகாந்தம், s. A kind of gem, crystal, lens, or burning glass; the sunstone; said to emit fire when placed in the sun's rays, சூரியகாந்தச்சிலை. W. p. 941. SOORYYAKANKA. 2. [prop. சூரியகாந்தி.] The sun-flower. சூரியகாந்தக்கண்ணாடி, s. A burning glass--as சூரியகாந்தம், 1. சூரியகாந்தஆமணக்கு, s. [prov.] The plant Ricinus viridis, ஓராமணக்கு. (R.) சூரியகாந்தி, s. The sun-flower, சூரிய காந்திப்பூ. Helianthus annuus, L. 2. The splendor or heat of the sun, சூரியனொளி. W. p. 941. SOORYYAKANTI. 3. As சூரி யகாந்திப்பட்டு சூரியகாந்திப்பட்டு, s. Velvet, so called from its shining properties. சூரியகிரகணம்--சூரியகிராணம், s. An eclipse of the sun. See கிரகணம். சூரியகிரணம், s. Rays of the sun. See கிரணம். சூரியகும்பம், s. A water-pot dedicated to the sun. சூரியகுலம்--சூரியவமிசம், s. The Solar dynasty, originally reigning in Oude--one of three governing families. for many generations, the two others being சந்திரகுலம் and அக்கினிகுலம். சூரியசங்கிரமம்--சூரியசங்கிராந்தி, s. The transit of the sun from one sign to another. W. p. 942. SOORYYASANKRAMA. சூரியசந்திரர்முதலியோர்வீதி, s. The are of the horizon which comprehends the northern and southern declinations of the sun, moon, &c., being of three divisions called மேடவீதி, இடபவீதி, and மிதுனவீதி. See சூரியவீதி. சூரியசரம், s. As சூரியகலை, 1. சூரியசித்திரம், s. [in astrol.] A subdivision of சூரியபுத்தி. சூரியசித்தாந்தம், s. An astronomical work, ஓர்கணிதநூல். See சித்தாந்தம். சூரியதிசை, s. The reign of the sun, as a planet. See திசை. சூரியதீக்ஷணம்--சூரியதேசசு, s. The radiance or heat of the sun, கடுவெயில். (p.) சூரியநமஸ்காரம்--சூரியநமற்காரம், s. The worship of the sun. 2. Adoration of the sun by sick persons, especially for diseases in the eyes. See நமஸ்காரம். சூரியபகவான்--சூரியநாராயணமூர்த்தி, s. The sun--as a deity. சூரியபுத்தி, s. [in astrol.] A division in சூரியதிசை, consisting of three months and eighteen days. 2. [in astron.] Sun's daily motion. சூரியபுடம், s. The drying of medicines in the sun. 2. [in astronomy.] Sun's longitude. சூரியபுத்திரன்--சூரியதனயன்--சூரிய குமாரன், s. Karna. கன்னன். 2. Sugreeva, ally of Rama, சுக்கிரீவன். 3. Saturn, சனி. (p.) சூரியபுராணம், s. A Purana extolling the sun as deity, one of the eighteen Puranas. See பிரமவைவர்த்தம். சூரியபூசை, s. Worship of the sun either by Saivas competent to perform பூசை, or such as belong to the சூரியவாதம். சூரியப்பலகை, s. [prov.] A plank placed at the transom, or lintel over a door. (c.) சூரியப்பிரபை--சூரியப்பிரவை, s. The radiance or splendor of the sun, சூரிய காந்தி. 2. An ornament of gold set with jewels worn on the head by females on special occasions, with another called சந்திரப்பிரபை. 3. [loc.] A seat or throne with a circlet like the sun, for an image, on festival occasions, விருத்தகேடகம். சூரியபிறை, s. [com.] As சூரியப்பிரபை, 2. சூரியமண்டலம், s. The orb or disc of the sun. 2. The region of the sun. 3. One of the mystic circles on the body, regarded as a lotus flower, and assigned in worship, to three of the female energies of the deity, ஞானசத்தி, கிரியாசத்தி and இச்சாசத்தி, under the emblems of the sun, moon and fire. சூரியர், s. An adherent of the சூரி யன் religion; [ex வாதி.] சூரியவிம்பம்--சூரியபிம்பம், s. The disc or orb of the sun. 2. The reflected light of the sun, சூரியப்பிரதிவிம்பம். சூரியவீதி, s. The are of the horizon which comprehends the northern and southern declinations of the sun, being divided into three parts of four signs each, and taken in the following order: (1.) மேடவீதி, the Aries'-course, including Taurus, இடபம், Leo, சிங்கம், Gemini, மிது னம், and Cancer, கடகம். 2. இடபவீதி, the Taurus'-course, including Pisces, மீனம், Aries, மேடம், Virgo, கன்னி, Libra, துலாம். (3.) மிதுனவீதி, the Gemini course, including Sagittarius, தனுசு, Capricorn, மக ரம், Aquarius, கும்பம், Scorpio, விருச்சிகம். சூரியனுதித்தல், v. noun. The rising of the sun. சூரியாஸ்தமனம், s. [prop.] சூரியாஸ்தம்.] Sun-set. W. p. 942. SOORYYASTAM. சூரியாஸ்தமனவேளையிற் படிக்கலாகாது. Study not at sun set--deemed inauspicious, as the time when இரணியன் an Asura was slain. சூரியாஸ்திரம், s.
