uku (p. 59) கிறது, ந்தது, ம், உக, v. n. To be shaken off, to fall or drop off--as fruits, &c.; to shed feathers, hair; to become separated; to cast off as the nails, &c., உதிர. 2. To be strewed, scattered, poured out, &c., சிந்த. 3. To trickle or fall down--as rain or tears, சொரிய. 4. To be divested of, liberated from, கழல. (p.) நெஞ்சுகவாய்மலரன்னகண்ணீர்மல்க. The heart fainting and the lotus-flower like eyes shedding tears. மஞ்சுகவார்த்தன. The (bells) sounded so loud as to cause the clouds to fall. உள்ளமுடைந்துக்கக்கால். If the heart be broken and utterly fail. (குறள்.) உயிருக. The soul departing. உடுத்திரளுதிர்ந்தெனவுகுவதந்தமே. Teeth scattered as if multitudes of stars had fallen. அங்கணத்துளுக்கவமிழ்து. utvi (p. 59) s. Aid, help, assistance, succor, சகாயம். 2. Bestowment, ஈகை. 3. A gift, a donation, a boon, a contribution, a benefit, உபகாரம். உதவிசெய்ய, inf. To aid, render assistance. சமயத்திற்கேற்றஉதவி, s. Seasonable aid. சமயத்திற்செய்தஉதவி, s. Aid rendered in season. தெய்வஉதவி, s. Divine aid. கைக்குதவி, s. Help to the hand --as a staff, a weapon, an instrument, another to assist in labor, to lean upon, &c. கையுதவி, s. Help by hand, help of an inferior kind and temporary--as of a servant or person at hand. ஊருதவி, s. The help of one's countrymen. உயிருதவி, s. The aid given by which a person is rescued in a fatal juncture. 2. Help rendered by giving up life for another. பேருதவி, s. Great help. போருதவி, s. Weapons, army, &c., auxiliary to a war. 2. Succor rendered to a war. அயலுதவி, s. The help of neighbors. சொல்லுதவி, s. Help by word, recommendation. ஆளுதவி, s. Personal help, help of a more general and important nature --as having servants or dependants at command. பொருளுதவி, s. Help by property.

uyir (p. 63) s. Life, soul, vitality, animal or vegetable life, சீவன். 2. Wind, காற்று. 3. A vowel, உயிரெழுத்து. 4. A living being, human, brute, or vegetable; an animal, ஓரறி வுயிர்முதலியசீவராசி. உயிருமுடலும்போல. As closely united as the soul and body. உயிர்போய்விட்டது. Life is gone. மன்னுயிர்க்கிரங்குகிறது. To be compassionate to other living creatures. உயிரடங்க, inf. To be in a state of insensibility, be in a swoon, to be suspended as the vital powers. உயிரடைய, inf. To revive, to be reanimated. உயிரளபு--உயிரளபெடை, s. The lengthening of a vowel in verse. See அளபெடை. உயிரறுதியும். Till the very end of life. உயிருதவி, s. Aid in a fatal juncture. 2. Aid by sacrificing life for another. உயிரெடுக்க, inf. To take away life. உயிரெழுத்து, s. A vowel, ஆவி. உயிரொடுங்க, inf. To be reduced as the powers before death, உயிரடங்க. 2. To die, சாவ. உயிரொளிக்க, inf. [prov.] To feign great weakness, sickness, inability, &c., in order to gain or effect an object, உயிர்மறைக்க. உயிரொளித்தகள்ளன், s. A cringing deceiver who though rich and strong makes pretensions to the contrary. உயிரோம்ப, inf. To support life, maintain, உயிர்காக்க. உயிர்கலக்க, inf. To revive, to be diffused--as life through the body in one that has been swooning, &c. 2. To reunite as the soul with the body in one restored to life. 3. (fig.) To be relieved from anxiety, &c. உயிர்குடிக்க, inf. To devour life, kill (a war term), also used of demons and ferocious deities, கொல்ல. உயிர்கொள்ள, inf. To take the life of an antagonist--as in battle, &c., உயிர்வாங்க. உயிர்க்கட்டை, s. The body, உடம்பு. உயிர்க்கணம், s. One of the four auspicious feet with which to begin a poem consisting of three நேர்--as தே, மாங், காய். 2. Vowels, உயிரெழுத்து. See கணம். உயிர்க்கருணேசம், s. The vital parts essential to life, உயிர்த்தானம். உயிர்பிழைக்க--உயிருய்ய, inf. To survive a calamity, escape from, or live through a time of peril, தப்பிப்பிழைக்க. 2. To live, maintain life, subsist, உயிர் வாழ. உயிர்போக, inf. To expire, to die. உயிர்ப்பழி, s. The guilt of murder, உயிர்க்கொலை. 2. Vengeance, divine or human, persuing the murderer to death, regarded as the ghost of the murdered person, பிரமகத்தி. உயிர்ப்பிராணி, s. To execute a title deed, bond, &c.--as a contracting party, உடன்படிக்கையெழுத. 3. To believe firmly, persuade one's self, நிச்சயிக்க. உறுதிசொல்ல, inf. To assure, speak firmly, pledge one's word, &c., திரமாகச்சொல்ல. 2. To inspire hope, to console, நம்பிக்கைசொல்ல. 3. A word of advice, நல்லுபதேசம். 3. An admonition, a warning, கண்டிப்பு. உறுதிபண்ண, inf. To confirm, to corroborate. உறுதிபூசுதல், s. The sacrament of confirmation among the Romanists. உறுதிபெறுதல், v. noun. Obtaining firmness of mind. உறுதிப்பட, inf. To be confirmed, assured, to be firmly established in a course of conduct, திடப்பட. உறுதிப்படுத்த, inf. To confirm in a religious sense, to corroborate, establish, பலப்படுத்த. 2.
