āṉai (p. 44) s. An elephant, யானை. 2. (M. Dic.) The அத்தி tree, Ficus racemosa. ஆனைகட்டுந்தறி--ஆனையணைதறி, s. A post to tie an elephant. ஆனைக்கண், s. Round, black spots in fruits, when they are over-ripe, or spoiled. ஆனைக்கண்படுதல்--ஆனைக்கண் வி ழுதல், v. noun. The appearing of spots, or defects in fruits. பலாப்பழமானைக்கண்பட்டுப் போயிற்று. The jack fruit has got a defect or flaw. ஆனைக்கதுப்பு, s. The frontal sinus of the elephant, from which secretion exudes when the animal is in rut. ஆனைக்களிமுளையான், s. A plant, ஓர்பூடு. ஆனைக்கற்றலை, s. A fish, ஓர்மீன். ஆனைக்காயம்--ஆனைப்பெருங்கா யம், s. A kind of assaf&oe;tida given to elephants, &c. See பெருங்காயம். ஆனைக்கால், s. A disease--the elephantiasis or large leg, Cochin leg, வாதக்கால். 2. A big tube fixed on the walls or roofs, for rain-water to pass through, தண்ணீர்க்குழாய். (c.) ஆனைக்காவல், s. Watchers to defend a garden, a field, &c., against elephants. ஆனைக்கூடம், s. An elephant's stall, ஆனைகட்டுமிடம். ஆனைக்கொம்பு--ஆனைக்கோடு--ஆ னைத்தந்தம், s. An elephant's tusks. 2. Ivory. ஆனைக்கொம்பன், s. A kind of rice, ஓர்வகைநெல். 2. A species of plantain--as ஆனைவாழை. ஆனைக்கோடன்சுரை, s. An elephant's stall. 2. A row of elephants. ஆனைப்பாகன், s. An elephanteer, or one who tames or guides elephants. ஆனைப்பிச்சான், s. A plant, ஓர் பூண்டு. ஆனைப்பேன், s. An insect that lives in the brinjall plant, கத்தரிச்செடியிலு ண்டாகுமோர்பூச்சி. ஆனைமஞ்சள், s. A plant, ஓர்பூடு. ஆனைமதம், s. An elephant's rut. ஆனைமத்தகம், s. An elephant's skull or part of the head, கும்பம். இ. A short letter, similar to I in English, ஓர்குற்றெழுத்து. 2. A demonstrative prefix, சுட்டெழுத்து--as இந்த, this. 3. A termination of the second person singular, முன்னிலையொருமைவிகுதி--as உண்டி, thou hast eaten. 4. An imperative second person singular, முன்னிலையேவலொருமைவிகுதி-as சொல்லுதி, say thou. 5. A feminine appellative termination, பெண்பால்விகுதி-as கூனி, a hump-backed woman. 6. A singular termination, common to the masc. and fem., உயர்திணையொருமைவிகுதி--as மானி, an honorable person--பாவி, a sinner. 7. A termination in the singular, common to each gender, இருதிணைமுக்கூற்றொருமைவிகுதி --as செவியிலி, a man, woman, or animal without ears. 8. An expletive inserted at pleasure, when the preceding word ends with any letter except ய், and the following word begins with ய், சாரியை--as காலியாது, from கால், foot and யாது, which. 9. A termination of some participles, வினையெச்சவிகு தி--as எண்ணி, சொல்லி, &c. 1. A prefix to ஆனைமயிர், s. The hair of an elephant's tail. ஆனைமயிர்க்காப்பு, s. Bracelets of the hair of elephants' tails. ஆனைமலை, s. The name of a mountain in the south near Madura. ஆனைமுகவன்--ஆனைமுகன், s. Ganesa, விநாயகன். 2. An Asoor, கசமுகா சுரன். (p.) ஆனைமுதுகு, s. An elephant's back. ஆனையடி, s. The footsteps of an elephant. ஆனையறுகு, s. A kind of grass, ஓரறுகு. ஆனையறையும்புள்--ஆனையிறாஞ்சி ப்புள்--அனையுண்குருகு, s. A fabulous bird --said to devour the elephant. ஆனையிலத்தி, s. Elephant's dung. ஆனையூர்தி, s. Indra whose vehicle is the elephant, இந்திரன். 2. Ian, ஐயன். (p.) ஆனையேற்றம், s. Learning and practising to ride on an elephant, யானை யேறிப்பழகுகை. ஆனைவணங்கி, s. A kind of plant whose flower is supposed to resemble the trunk of an elephant. It is also fancied to be a preservative against the attack of a wild elephant, which, it is said, will retire abashed at the sight of it, தேட்கொடுக்குப்பூண்டு. ஆனைவாழை, s. ōngku (p. 84) கிறேன், ஓங்கினேன், வேன், ஓங்க, v. a. To lift up, raise the arm, a weapon, a pestle, கையோங்க. 2. v. n. To grow high, rise above others, above the level; to be lofty--as a building, a mountain, a tree; to shoot forth, rise--as a flame, உயர. 3. To mount, soar, எழும்ப. 4. To rise to the surface--as planted rice when flooded, எழ. 5. To be exalted, dignified, eminent, பெருமையுற. 6. To improve, increase in wealth, renown, learning, &c.; to flourish, prosper, increase in size, &c., அதிகரிக்க. ஓங்கியவொள்வாள். The up-lifted glittering sword. நெஞ்சோங்குபரத்துற்றோர். Those whose hearts are placed on the Supreme God. (நன்னெறி.) துக்கசமுத்திரத்திலேயோங்குகிறான். He rises above the waves in the sea of sorrow. ஓங்கிப்பார்க்க, inf. To stand on tip-toe and look. ஓங்கிப்பிடிக்க, inf. To rise and catch, either by becoming erect, or standing on tip-toe, or jumping. ஓங்கியசெல்வம், s. (p.) ஒருகசமாழந்தோண்டுகிறது. To dig one yard deep. கசகன்னம், s. The power or art of moving or waving the ears in imitation of an elephant, ஓர்வித்தை. கசத்தொனி, s. The roaring of an elephant. கசபரிட்சை, s. Examining of elephants--one of the sixty-four arts. See கலைஞானம். கசபுடம், s. A fire prepared with one thousand cakes of dried cowdung for calcining medicines; also the cavity made for the fire, ஆயிரமெருமுட்டைவைத்தெ ரிக்கும்புடம். Wils. p. 276. GAJAPUTA. கசப்புளுகன், s. The seven oceans of the Puranas are, 1. லவணச முத்திரம், sea of salt-water. 2. இக்ஷுசமுத்திரம், sea of the juice of sugar-cane. 3. சுராசமுத்தி ரம், sea of spirituous liquor. 4. சர்ப்பிசமுத்தி ரம், sea of clarified butter. 5. ததிசமுத்தி ரம், sea of curds. 6. க்ஷீரசமுத்திரம், sea of milk. 7. சுத்தோதகசமுத்திரம், sea of fresh water. கடலுரமாயிருக்கிறது. The sea is rough. கடலடம்பு, s. A species of the அடம்பு plant. கடலர், s. Fishermen, inhabitants of maritime districts, நெய்தனிலமாக்கள். கடலாமை, s. A fish, ஓர்மீன். கடலோடுதல், v. noun. Navigating, travelling by sea--as mariners, கடல்யாத் திரைசெய்தல். கடலோடி, s. A mariner, a seaman. கடலோரம், s. The sea-shore, கடற்கரை. கடல்கட்டி, s. [prov.] A sea-conjurer who by magic prevents sharks, &c., from injuring divers, கடலிலுள்ளசெந் துக்களைத்தடைகட்டுவோன். கடல்நாய், s. A kind of sea-dog. கடல்நுரை, s. (lit. the froth of the sea.) Sea-shell eaten with age, Ossepi&ae;, the cuttle bone. (See அக்கினிகர்ப்பம்.) It is one of the twenty kinds of உபரசம். 2. A kind of pastry, ஓரப்பம். கடல்மனிதர், s. (p.) கடல்விராஞ்சி, s. A shrub. கடற்கரை, s. The sea-shore. கடற்காளான், s. Sponge, (lit.) seafungus. கடற்குதிரை, s. The sea-horse, a little fish, ஓர்மீன். கடற்குருவி, s. Salt in lumps, கல் லுப்பு. (M. Dic.) கடற்கொடி, s. The தும்பை creeper. கடற்கொழுப்பை, s. A weed, எ ழத்தாணிப்பூடு, Microrhyncus sarmentosus. கடற்சார்பு, s. A maritime district, the sea-coast, நெய்தனிலம். கடற்சில், s. The flat round seeds of a sea-plant, கடல்மரக்கொட்டை. கடற்சேதம், s. Ship-wreck. கடற்சேதப்பட, inf. To suffer ship-wreck. கடற்சேர்ப்பன், s. A chief or headman in a maritime district, நெய்தற் றலைவன். கடற்பக்ஷி--கடற்பக்கி--கடற்பட் சி, s. Shell-fish, கிளிஞ்சில். கடற்பச்சை, s. A plant--as சமுத் திராபச்சை. கடற்பன்றி, s. The porpoise, seahog. கடற்பாசி, s. Sea-weeds, acquatic plants of various kinds. கடற்பாலை, s. Argyrcia speciosa, சமுத்திரசோகி. கடற்பிணா, s. A female of the fisher tribe, நெய்தனிலப்பெண். கடற்பிறந்தாள், s. Lukshmi the sea-born--as produced from the sea of milk when it was churned by the gods and Asoors, இலக்குமி. கடற்பெருக்கு, s. The tide, கடல் நீர்ப்பெருக்கு. கடற்றாழை, s. A weed in the sea. கடற்றிரை, s. A wave of the sea. கடற்றீ, s. The froth of the sea, கடல்நுரை. கடற்றுறை, s. Sea-port. 28)

kūṉu (p. 136) கிறேன், கூனினேன், வேன், கூன, v. n. (from Sans. Koona.) To curve, to become crooked, to bend down, கோண. 2. To be hump-backed, முதுகுவளைய. 3. To contract, close-as the tortoise, the snail, &c., ஒடுங்க. கூனிப்போக, inf. To become humpbacked. 2. To be bent, by age. கெ *கெசம், s. An elephant, யானை. 2. கோயில்
kōyil (p. 150) s. [com. கோவில்.] [ex கோ, et இல், abode.] A palace the residence of a nobleman. or a king, அரமனை. 2. A temple, sanctuary, church, chapel, ஆலயம். 3. A sacred shrine, the abode of a deity, கடவு ளிருக்குமிடம். 4. A metal casket enclosing the சிவலிங்கம், or phallic emblem worn about the person, இலிங்கசம்புடம். 5. A bag, &c., for sacred ashes, விபூதிசம்புடம். 6. [loc.] The pagoda at Chillumbrum, or that at Seringham, சிதம்பரசீரங்கஸ்தலம். 7. [prov.] A parish church, also a parish, கோயிற்பற்று. கோயிற்பூனைதேவருக்கஞ்சாது. The cat in the temple dreads no deity; i. e., too close an intimacy destroys veneration. கோயில்மாடுபோலே. Like a temple cow-spoken of indulged or idle young persons who have their own way, &c. கோயில்கொள்ள, inf. To take possession of a temple, a shrine or the heart-as a deity. (p.) கோயில்சுற்றிக்கும்பிட--கோயில்வலம் வர, inf. To pass round a temple to the right hand, out of homage to it. கோயில்சேவிக்க, inf. [loc.] To serve the temple daily--as musicians. கோயில்மணியகாரன், s. The revenue of a temple. கோயிற்கணக்கு, s. Temple accounts. 2. [prov.] The parish registry. கோயிற்காணி--கோயில்மானியம், s. Temple lands. கோயில்குளத்துக்குப்போகாதவன். One who is neglectful of religious ceremonies. கோயிற்கிராமம், s. A village and lands belonging to a temple. கோயிற்படி, s. The daily allowance for the expenditure of a temple, of rice, &c., to the idol, Brahman, servants, &c. கோயிற்பற்று, s. [prov.] A parish, or districts belonging to a church. கோயிற்பிரகாரம், s. The court or enclosure of the temple; [ex பிரகாரம், enclosure.]. கோயிற்பிரதிட்டை, s. The conscration of a temple when the deity is supposed to be brought to take up his abode; [in Christian usage.] also the dedication of a church. கோயிற்புராணம், s. One of the five puranas concerning சிதம்பரம். கோயிற்பூனை, s. (fig.) A dissembler in religion. கோயின்மகமை, s. Free offering or gifts to a temple. See மகமை. கோயின்மேரை, s. (also கோயிற்குறுணி.)
