A celebrated Jvalamukhi exists in Lahore, to which pilgrimages are made. The soil abounds with carburetted hydrogen, which takes fire on coming in con tact with the external air, especially if a light be applied. Vents are made; and a light being brought near the orifice, a flame is kindled, which is fed by the escaping stream of gas.
