To get a mere livelihood, (lit.) to nourish a span of belly. சாண்சீலை, s. [loc.] The fore-lap, the cloth covering the privy parts. சாணளப்பான்--சாணளந்தான்பூச்சி, s. A kind of insect that moves forward by its head and tail, measuring its length at every movement. சாணேற முழஞ்சறுக்க. To climb a span up and slide a cubit down--spoken of slight advance, profit, &c., followed by great decrease. சாணோவயிறு சரீரமெல்லாம்வயிறோ. Is his belly a span long, or is he all belly-spoken of one who supports himself dishonorably. எறும்புந்தன்கையாலெண்சாண்.
