CHITRA. சித்திராபௌரணை--சித்திராபௌர்ணிமி --சித்திராபூரணை, s. The full moon in April, when the planet is in, or near, the சித்திரை asterism. சித்திரைக்கஞ்சி, s. [prov.] Congy made and given away liberally on the day when the moon is in the சித்திரை asterism in April, in reference to சித்திரகுத் தன்; to disregard which is supposed to subject persons to punishment in the leech-pits of the seventh hell. சித்திரைக்கதை, s. [prov.] The story of சித்திரகுத்தன், recounting his birth, life, &c., with the rewards and punishment of various good and bad actions. It is read in the temples on the சித்திராபூரணை.-Those who are strict fast till they have heard the story. It is deemed more important when the full moon falls on a Sunday. சித்திரைக்கார், s.
