kāṟṟu (p. 107) s. Wind, a breeze, the air, atmosphere, வாயு. 2. The wind that passes downward, அபானவாயு. 3. The fifteenth lunar asterism, or nacshatra, சோதிநட்சத் திரம். 4. A ghost, an apparition, a spectre, an evil spirit.--Note. This word is from the third person neut. sing. of a symbolic verb from கால், air. காற்றுள்ளபோதே தூற்று. Winnow while the wind blows; i.e. attend to a thing at a favorable time. காற்றசைகிறது, The wind moves (after a lull). காற்றடங்கிற்று--காற்றமர்ந்தது. The wind has subsided. காற்றடிக்கிறது, The wind blows. 2. The storm beats. காற்றருந்த, inf. To feed on wind--as snakes. 2. [vul.] To be gaping, listless, idle. காற்றாடவைக்க, inf. To air a thing; to expose it to the wind. காற்றாடி, s. A wind-whirl, a child's toy, கறங்கு. 2. A paper kite, காற்றாடிப்பட் டம். 3. (fig.) A changeable person, a waverer, நிலையிலி. காற்றாடிக்கொள்ள, inf. To cool, to refresh one's self. காற்றின்சகாயன், s. Fire, lit. the helper of wind; that which invites wind for winnowing, as a fire. காற்றுக்கழிய--காற்றுப்பறிய, inf. To break wind. காற்றுக்காலம், s. The windy season. காற்றுக்கிளம்பிற்று. The wind has sprung up or risen. காற்றுக்கிளம்பவில்லை. No wind rises. காற்றுக்குமறைவிடம். A shelter from the wind. காற்றுச்சங்கை, s. Possession by a demon. காற்றுத்திரும்பிவிட்டுது--மாறிவிட்டுது. The wind has changed. காற்றுநாள், s. The fifteenth lunar asterism, சோதிநாள். காற்றுப்போகிறது, The air is escaping. காற்றுமுந்துநாள், s. The sixteenth lunar asterism, விசாகநாள். காற்றுமோதுகின்றது, The wind beats or puffs. 2. The monsoon is set in. காற்றுவாக்கு, s. [prov.] Leeward--used when a current of offensive effluvia is conveyed to one by the wind--as by a fisher-woman in passing, &c., காற்றுப் பக்கம். 2. Neglect of duty, சோம்பல். 3. Random, chance, கண்டபாடு. காற்றுவீசுகின்றது, The wind blows. காற்றெழும்புகிறது. The wind rises. காற்றொதுக்கு, s. A shelter from the wind, காற்றடைப்பு. காற்றோட்டி, s. A kind of shrub yielding bitter fruit of an unpleasant smell, said to expel flatulency. It is fried and eaten on some fasts as a mode of selfmortification, ஓர்முட்செடி, Obtuse-leaved hibiscus. இளங்காற்று, s. A gentle breeze. ஊதைக்காற்று--பனிக்காற்று, s. A cold wind, in the dewy season. எதிர்காற்று--எதிர்க்காற்று, s. A contrary wind. கீழ்காற்று, s. East wind. குளிர்காற்று, s. A cold wind. சிறுகாற்று, s. A gentle wind. சுழல்காற்று--சூறைக்காற்று, s. A whirlwind. சுழிக்காற்று, s. A whirl-wind, limited to a small space, and tearing up trees, &c., that stand in its way. தீக்காற்று, s. A scorching, blasting wind. தென்காற்று, s. South wind. நச்சுக்காற்று, s. A noxious air, miasma --as in time of epidemics. நல்லகாற்று, s. A favorable wind. பெருங்காற்று, s. A strong or violent wind. மேல்காற்று, s. West wind. வடகாற்று, s. kūṭl (p. 133) s. A name of Madura, from the legend that large halls came into existence miraculously, to shelter the people collected there in a time of great rain, மதுரை. 2. A kind of divination, said to have been practised by females, making concentric circles on the ground, in the absence of their lovers, to ascertain as to their return, சுழிக்குங்கூடல். 3. Incurvature, curl in the formation of letters, circle, &c., as each curve in ன், ண், and the sign of the long vowels in கீ, மூ, டே, &c., அட்சரச்சுழி. 3. Curl of the hair of a horse's forehead, மயிர்ச்சுழி. 4. Involution of the navel, தொப்புட்சுழி. 5. Circular, or curved lines on the head, body, &c., supposed to be indicative of one's fortune, அங்கச்சழி. 6. Circles on the surface of water, as by the fall of a stone, &c., கல்லெறிசுழி. (c.) சுழிசுத்தம்பார்த்தல், . noun. Examining the curled marks of a horse. (c.) இராசகோபாலசக்கரச்சுழி, s. A goldchakarum coin issued by Vijaya Raghava, a king of Tanjore. பிள்ளையார்சுழி, s. A mark, used by the Hindus in the beginning of a book; by the Saivas in honor of Gan&ecire;sa, and the Vaishnavas as an abbreviation of ஓம் the mystic om. At the north, the Sa. Sri is used. பிள்ளையார்சுழிபோட, inf. To make the mark in an account, indicating that it is right. மூன்றரைமாற்றுச்சக்கரச்சுழி, s. A gold coin at Keelvelur, near Negapatam. சுழிவரைய, inf. To make a circlet with a pin, &c. சுழிசுழிக்க, inf. To form small curves, or circlets. சுழிபோட--சுழியிட, inf. To form small curves to the letters. சுழிக்குணம்--சுழித்தனம், s. [prov.] Knavery, கள்ளத்தனம். சுழிப்புத்தி, s. [prov. as சுழித்தனம்.] Knavish policy, knavery. சுழியச்சு, s. [prov.] A goldsmith's matrix for making impressions. சுழியன், s. A knave, a rogue, a schemer, a man of tricks, an irritable man, வஞ் சகன். 2. A whirl-wind, சுழல்காற்று. (c.) சுழியாய்ப்பேச, inf. To speak sharply, so as to hurt one's feelings. சுழிப்பிழையன், s. Any domestic animal wanting the proper fortunate marks, கெட்டசுழியுள்ளது. 2. (fig.) A worthless fellow, கூடாதவன். (c.). சுழிபேதம், s. The different sorts of marks on the head of a horse. அவனென்னைச் சுழிபேதம் பண்ணிப்போட்டான். He has cheated me. சித்திரைச்சுழியன், s. A kind of storm that prevails in the month of April. (c.) சுழியாணி, s. The lower pin of a door or gate serving instead of a hinge. சுழியாணிக்கட்டை, s. The block or stone to receive the pin of a door, a gate, &c. சுழியாணிக்கதவு, s. A door made with pins to turn in grooves instead of hinge. சுழியோட, inf. To dive into water. 2. (fig.) To penetrate the minds of men, மனதையாராய. சுழியோடுகிறவன், appel. n. A diver. 57)

To fall here and there--as rain in partial showers, மழைசுழிக்க. (c.) 4. [prov.] To go, move about, to walk here and there, அலைய. மழைசுழித்துவிட்டுப்போயிற்று.
