ūmṉ (p. 70) s. A large kind of owl, commonly ஊமத்தங்கூகை. 2. A dumb person, ஊமை. (p.) சேமமேவேண்டித்தீவினைபெருக்கித்தெரிவைமாருரு வமேமருவியூமனார்கண்டகனவி லும்பழுதாயொழிந்தனக ழிந்தவென்னாள்கள். All my days, even as the dream of a dumb person, have vainly passed away in the desire of pleasure, in multiplying evils and in the embraces of beautiful women. (திருமங்கை.) 9)

ūmai (p. 70) s. Dumbness, மூகை. 2. Unsounding--as a coin that will not ring, ஒலியின்மை. 3. A dumb person, ஊமன். ஊமைகண்டகனாப்போலிருக்கின்றது. It is like the dream of a dumb person (not revealable). ஊமைக்கட்டி, s. A blind boil, one that does not suppurate, வாய்மூடியபரு. 2. The mumps, பொன்னுக்குவீங்கி. ஊமைச்சி, s. A dumb woman, ஊமைப்பெண். 2. [as ஊமச்சி.] Cockles. ஊமைத்தனம், s. Dumbness. ஊமைத்தேங்காய், s. A cocoanut whose water does not sound when shaken, நீராடாத்தேங்காய். ஊமைப்பயில், s. The gestures or signs used in conversing with dumb persons, ஊமைசமிக்கை. ஊமையன், s. A dumb person, ஊமன். ஊமையெழுத்து, s. A mute consonant, மெய்யெழுத்து. (உப. 86.) ஊமைவிளையாட்டு, s. kṉvu (p. 102) s. A dream, கனா. 2. Sleep, நித்திரை. 3. Stupor, drowsiness, bewilderment, மயக்கம். கனவிலுங்காக்காய்மலந்தின்னக்காணும். The crow even dreams of feeding on excrement. கனவிலுந்தீங்குநினையான். He will not think evil even in his dreams. கனவிலும்பொய்சொல்லான். He will not falsify even in his dreams, he will not dream of falsifying. கனவிற்கண்டபொருள்கானலிற்கண்டபுனல். The substance of a dream is like the mirage of the arid desert. ஊமைகண்டகனவுபோல். Like the dreams of the dumb that cannot be disclosed-spoken of things improper or impossible to disclose. கனவின்பலன், s. The accomplishment of a dream. 2. A very wicked person. துஷ்டதேவதை, s. A malignant deity. துஷ்டத்தொழில், s. A barbarous or ferocious act. துஷ்டநடை--துஷ்டமார்க்கம், s. A wicked life. துஷ்டநிக்கிரகம், s. Destruction of the wicked; commonly as an attribute of a good king--oppos. to சிஷ்டபரிபாலனம். துஷ்டமிருகம், s. A wild beast. துஷ்டவித்தை, s. The black arts, as witchcraft, magic, &c., when employed for injury, or destruction. துஷ்டவினை, s. As துஷ்டவித்தை. 2. Boiled rice, as பிண் டம். (colloq.) பிண்டச்சூத்திரம், s. An introduction which lays open a subject. See சூத்திரம். பிண்டதானம்--பிண்டப்பிரதானம், s. Presenting balls of rice, cakes, &c., to the manes. See சிரார்த்தம். பிண்டப்புறனடை, s. Abstract remarks or notes in an author's work, connected with the subject in hand, or with others. பிண்டப்பொருள், s. The substance or free rendering of a verse, &c. 2. Any thing in mass, as a heap of paddy, &c. பிண்டம்பிடிக்க, inf. To form any thing into a globular shape. 2. To create--as the Deity. பிண்டம்போட, inf. To set a ball of rice for each of the manes, in the shraddha or funeral ceremony, also பிண்டம்வைக்க; 2. [in cant.] To eat. பிண்டம்விழுதல், appel. n. milēccam (p. 354) s. A country to the North of the Saraswati river in the neighborhood of Delhi, சரச்சுவதியாற்றின்வடதேசம். (சது.) மிலேச்சசாதிகள், s. Barbarous nations, foreigners. The tribes enumerated under this head by Menu, appear to be principally the inhabitants of the countries bordering on India, north and south; especially those adjacent to Bengal and Behar, and on the Southern part of the Coromandel coast, which are severally called Paundrakas, O'dras (Uriyas), and Draviras; also the Cambojas; Yavanas (Greeks or Bactrians); Sakas; Paravas; Pahlavas (ancient Persians); Chinese; Kiratas, generally mountaineers; Deradas (Darad&ae;) and K'hasas (Scuthi). W. p. 677.--Note. The term is now applied, more especially, to Europeans, and those from any remote country. மிலேச்சதேசம்--மிலேச்சமண்டலம், s. A foreign country, a country on the borders of India.--According to Wills. any country where the black antelope is not found. மிலேச்சத்தனம், s. Clownishness, barbarism. மிலேச்சன், s. [fem. மிலேச்சி, மிலேச் சஸ்திரீ.] A barbarian, one of a foreign tribe, of a foreign religion, customs, &c., கண்டகன்.-- According to Wils. one speaking any language but Sanskrit, and not subject to the usual Hindu institutions. 2. A weak man, simpleton, dunce, dolt, பேதையன். 3. A clown, clodhopper, மடையன்.
