A stanza, foretelling or commemorating some important event; such stanzas appear sometimes to have been engraven in stone (whence the name), a recorded prediction, அழியாதசொல். 3. [prov.] A stanza commemorative of the death of an ancestor, mentioning the day and hour of the moon when it happened, kept by the descendants to assist in determining the precise time for the annual funeral rites, புகழ்ச்சிசெய்யுள். 4. [prov.] The mane of a well-known stanza, believed to have been written during the period of a Tamil Dynasty in Ceylon, foretelling, as it is interpreted, a succession of different foreign powers, and the final restoration of native rule, in those regions. It is as follows: முன்னைக்குளக்கோட்டன்மூட்டுந்திருப்பணியைப்பின்னைப்பரங்கிபிரிப்பனே--மன்னா கேள்--பூனைக் கண்செங்கண்புகைக்கண்ணனாண்டபின்பு--மரனே வடுகாய்வரும். 'The sacred edifices which the king Koolakottan reared, the Portuguese will demolish, listen O king-after the reign of the cat-eyed, the redeyed and the smoke-eyed, O thou deereyed, the Vaduca will succeed.' There is a different version of the last line, but it does not affect the general meaning-the smoke-eyed are said to be the present dominant power. கல்வெள்ளி, s. A kind of wooden needle, for roofing or hedging. அம்மைகுத்த, inf. To vaccinate. பச்சைகுத்த, inf. To tattoo; lit. to puncture and insert a blue dye. பல்லுக்குத்த, inf. To pick the teeth. மூக்குக்குத்த, inf. To perforate the nose. குத்திக்கொல்வோன், s. One who kills another by stabbing, an assassin. குத்துக்கொம்பு, s. [prov.] Perpendicular horns. குத்துக்கரணம், s. A somerset. நிலைகுத்த, inf. To be set in or fixed --as the eyes of one just breathing his last. சாந்துகுத்த, inf. To pound chunam or mortar. நெல்லுக்குத்த, inf. To pound paddy. பேன்குத்த, inf. To crack or crash lice. குரும்பைகுத்த, inf. [prov.] To pluck young cocoanuts, &c. அள்ளிக்குத்த, inf. [prov.] To give liquid food stintingly. 2. To drop a little water on plants, &c. குத்துவலி--குத்துக்குடைச்சல், v. noun. Throbbing or pinching pain, stitches. குத்திப்பேச, inf. To make a cutting remark. குத்தியள்ள, inf. To take up grain, &c., by thrusting the hands in perpendicularly. குத்தல், v. noun. Puncturing, pricking --as one of the eight kinds of impressions perceived by the sense of feeling. 2. Ramming; thrusting, stabbing, &c. குத்தார்க்கு, s. [local.] Withe, cord, &c., inserted in the hole of a குத்தூசி needle. குத்து, v. noun. Pounding in a mortar, உரலிற்குத்துகை. 2. A blow with the fist, a cuff, a buffet, a box, கைக்குத்து. 3. A thrust, a stab; a puncture, a prick, an incision, a goading, ஈட்டிமுதலியவற்றாற்கு த்துகை. 4. The peck of a stork, மூக்கினாற்கு த்துகை. 5. An acute, throbbing, twinging pain, ஓர்நோய். 6. A dot, a point, a tittle; a spot--commonly with a pointed instrument, புள்ளி. 7. A double handful of grain, &c., the hands being thrust in perpendicularly. 8. [prov.] A handful, ஓர் கையளவு. 9. Perpendicularity, steepness--as in செங்குத்து. குத்துண்டுபோவாய்--குத்துண்பாய். May you be stabbed--an imprecation. ஒருகுத்துச்சோறு. A double handful of boiled rice, with the hands thrust in perpendicularly. குத்துமி, s. Husk--as separated from rice by pounding. குத்துவெட்டு, s. Stabbing and maiming. --either in scuffles, robbery or war. 2. Dots and strokes--as erasures, பிழைபட் டதைக்கிறுக்கித்தள்ளல். குத்துப்பாடு, v. noun. Censuring or charging one with a fault; violent contention; lit. piercing, retortion. அந்தவேலைமேற்குத்துப்பாடுசொல்லுகிறான். He finds fault with the work. குத்துக்காயம், s. A wound by a stab; a stab. அடப்புக்குத்து, s. [prov.] Stabbing in the ribs, விலாக்குத்து. தலைக்குத்து--மண்டைக்குத்து, s. Piercing pain in the head; head-ache. முலைக்குத்து, s. Piercing pain in the breast. முலைக்குத்தைஅறியுமாசவலைப்பிள்ளை. Does the babe know the mother's breast-ache? குத்துண்ண, inf. To be beaten, pierced, stabbed, &c. குத்துப்பட. குத்துணி, s. One stabbed, குத்துண்ட வன். 2. A mean, vagabond, shameless fellow. குத்துப்பட்டுவிழ, inf. To fall, or drop down pierced. குத்துக்குநிற்க, inf. To stand on points, each urging his own reasons; to contend, to oppose-as rivals. 2. To haggle in dealing. குத்துகால்-குத்துக்கால், s. The uprights of a frame-as of a car; a piece of furniture, support, தாங்குகால். குத்துக்காலிட, inf. To sit or lie with bent legs; [ex குந்து.] குத்துக்கால்நாட்ட, inf. To fix or plant the uprights. குத்தாய்நிற்கிறமலை, s. A mountain standing perpendicularly. குத்துவிளக்கு, s. Standing lamp, a brass candlestick. குத்துக்கல்-குத்்தாங்கல், s. A perpendicular stone. குத்துக்கல்லாய்வைக்க, inf. To build with bricks set upon the edge. குத்துக்குளம்பு, s. The hoof of oxen, horse, &c., falling perpendicularly, not spreading-regarded as a good species for speed. குத்துப்பாறை, s. Small, perpendicular heaps of stones in the vicinity of a rock. 2. [local.] The horizontal part of a rock where women pound paddy. குத்துப்போர், s. The first layer of sheaves of corn in a stack, placed with the ears uppermost, நிறுத்திட்டமாய் வைக்குஞ் சூடு. 2. Boxing, fisticuffs, மற்போர். குத்துப்புள், s. [prov.] The place where the புள் stick falls perpendicularly in the கிட்டிபுள்ளு game. குத்தெனவீழ, inf. [prov.] To fall headlong, தலைகீழாய்விழ. 2. To fall in a perpendicular position, நிறுதிட்டமாய்விழ. செங்குத்தானமலை, s. A perpendicular hill; a precipice. மூங்கிற்குத்து, s. kuẕai (p. 129) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், ய, v. n. To be soft, mashed, pulpy, slimy. &c., சோறு முதலியனகுழைய, 2. To become tender--as the mind by love, friendship, pity, &c, மனமிளக. 3. To be social, and friendly, sometimes with a clandestine purpose in view, சேர்ந்துசெறிய. 4. To fade, shrink; to become spoiled--as flowers, or twigs by use in the hand, மலர்முதலியனவாட. 5. To become discouraged, dismayed, தைரியங்குறைய. 6. To be bent--as a bow; to be curved, to be coiled up, வளைய. மோப்பக்குழையுமனிச்சமுகந்திரிந்து நோக்கக்குழை யும்விருந்து. The Anicham flower fades in being smelt; and the feast fades on a change of countenance (of host or guest). இழையத்தீட்டிக்குழையவடித்தல். Beating the rice well and straining it when it is boiled to a pap. குழைந்துபறிமாறுகிறார்கள். They live in mutual hormony. குழைகறி--குழைந்தகறி, s. Mashy vegetable curry. குழைசாந்து, s. Coarse mortar--as used in building walls, or rough plastering. குழைசுண்ணாம்பு, s. Lime for plaster, white-washing, &c.; macerated lime. குழைசேறு, s. Soft mire, slime. குழைந்தசோறு, s. Rice over--boiled. குழைந்தமனம், s. A relenting, tender mind, இளகியமனம். குழையல், v. noun. Any thing mixed or mashed, &c., குழைந்தது. குழையற்கறி, s. Mashy or pulpy curry. 2. Curry over-boiled. குழையற்சாதம், s. Rice over-boiled. குழையற்பனாட்டு, s. [prov.] Dried palmyra pulp grown mashy. குழைவு, v. noun. Mashy state, குழை கை. 2. Tenderness of mind, pity. உருக் கம். 3. This word is commonly, but improperly, used for an idol of any materials whatever. சிலைச்சோணிதம்--சிலைத்தீட்டு--சிலைநஞ் சு--சிலையிரத்தம்--சிலையொழுக்கு, s. A mineral, alumen plumosum; a kind of கன்மதம். சிலைநிறுத்த, inf. To set up a statue. சிலைநாட்ட, inf. To erect and fix up a statue. சிலைத்தாசி, s. The sâlagrama, a sacred stone. cūtakam (p. 200) s. Birth, delivery, பிறப்பு. 2. (c.) Uncleanness, ceremonial impurity of a woman from catamenia, மகளீர்தொடக்கு. W. p. 94. SOOTAKA. 3. Ceremonial impurity of a person from the death of a relative, rendering him incompetent to perform certain rites; that from the father's side being greater, the mother's less, மரணசூதகம். 4. Ceremonial uncleanness in general, as of a person, house, clothes, &c., from a death, from menstruation, childbirth, miscarriage, touching a corpse or carcass; from shaving; contact of the finger, &c., with the spittle or any part of the mouth; touching one of low caste, or bathing in a tank of his village; or weeping, lamenting, &c., for a deceased acquaintance, தீட்டு. 5. Oldness, antiquity, பழமை.--Note. According to some, the causes of ceremonial impurity are five, viz.: 1. சனனாசூசம், or சாதகாசூசம், childbirth. 2. மரணாசூசம், or மிருதாசூசம், death. 3. சண்டாளநீரிற்றோய்தல், bathing in the waters used by low castes. 4. சுராபானம்பண்ணல், drinking toddy or ardent spirits. 5. பொய்கூறல், lying. The last seems but little regarded, also the fourth by many. Instead of the last three, the following are named by some; இருது சூதகம், menstruation. உச்சிட்டசூதகம், being spitten upon. சண்டாளபரிசசூதகம், contact with one of low caste. சூதகக்காரன், s. One ceremonially impure. சூதகக்காரி--சூதகஸ்திரி, s. A woman ceremonially unclean, by catamenia, or otherwise. சூதகக்கிராணி, s. A disease attending the childbirth, from wind or flatulency. சூதகங்கழிக்க, inf. To remove impurity by the prescribed means. சூதகங்காக்க, inf. To keep from society, abstain from venery, from shaving. &c., after a death, till the performance of the funeral rites. சூதகசன்னி, s. A disease of females from sexual intercourse during menstruation. See சன்னி. சூதகத்துக்குடையவர்கள், appel. n. Heirs of one deceased. சூதகமலடு, s. One of the six forms of barrenness. See மலடு. சூதகமாக, inf. To have the monthly course as a woman. (c.) சூதகமுட்டு, s. (c.) தீட்டுக்கழிக்க, inf. To perform ceremonial purification, especially after child-birth. தீட்டுக்காரி--தீட்டக்காரி, s. A woman in her monthly course. 2. A woman ceremonially impure. தீட்டுச்சீலை--தீட்டச்சீலை, s.Menstruous cloths. 2. Cloths impure from child-birth. தீட்டுத்தொடக்கு, s. Ceremonial uncleanness; commonly of child-birth or the menses. தீட்டுப்பட, inf. To be ceremonially polluted. 2. (fig.) To be defiled--said of a female. தீட்டுவீடு, s. tīṭṭu (p. 242) கிறேன், தீட்டினேன், வேன், தீட்ட, v. a. To whet, hone, sharpen, or rub knives, on a board, கூராக்க. 2. To clean rice, &c., by pounding, அரிசிதீட்ட. 3. (fig.) To beat, strike, அடிக்க. 4. To improve or sharpen the intellects, மனதைத்தீட்ட. 5. (for தீற்று.) To clean the teeth, பல்துலக்க. 6. To write, inscribe, delineate, எழுத. 7. To paint, draw pictures, &c., சித்திரிக்க. 8. To bind, tie, fasten, கட்ட. (திருக்குற்றாலப்புரா ணம். தீட்டத்தீட்டக்கூராகிறது. It becomes sharpened the more it is whetted; (fig.) the mental powers improve by exercise, application and study. தீட்டிப்பார்க்க, inf. To try a knife by a hone. 2. To try one's learning by questions. நாக்குத்தீட்ட, inf. [prov. in cant usage.] To praise one's self. தீட்டல், v. noun. Writing, sharpening, cleansing, &c., as the verb. தீட்டலரிசி--தீட்டரிசி, s. [prov.] Rice sifted and cleansed. (c.) தீட்டு, v. noun. Whetting, honing, கூர் மையாக்குதல். தீட்டுக்கல்--தீட்டுகல், s. A whet-stone, a hone, &c., சாணைக்கல். தீட்டுக்கோல்--தீட்டுகோல், s.
