āṉntm (p. 44) s. A medicinal root, அரத்தை, Alpinia galanga, L. 2. A supposed inauspicious form of construction in poetry, பாக்குற்றங்களினோர்வகை. It is of six kinds; viz.: 1. எழுத்தானந்தம், lengthening the final long vowel or mute of the name of the patron of a poem, பாட்டுடைத்தலைவன்பெயர் சார்த்தியளபெழப்பாடுவது; உ-ம். நறுமாலைதாராய்தி ரையவோஒ வென்பள் செறுமாலைசென்றடைந்தபோ ழ்து. 2. சொல்லானந்தம், using a word in a poem, so that an undesigned, inauspicious meaning may be applied to its patron, இயற்பெயர்மருங்கின் மங்கலமழிக்குந்தொழிற் சொற்பு ணர்ப்பது; உ-ம். தண்மதியமின்னிவரிந்திலங்கும்வெ ண்குடைச்செங்கோல்விசய னெரிந்திலங்கும் வேலி னெழும். 3. பொருளானந்தம், inauspicious expressions of different kinds, in poems as following. (a) Stating in a poem written in praise of a king, or a great man, that the productions of his land are injured or ruined, இறைச்சிப்பொருளையூறுபடக்கூறுதல்; உ-ம். குட்டியுந்தாயுமவ்விடரகம்புக்குவீழ்ந்தன வீழக் குரங்குகளெல்லாமவற்றுக்கிரங்கி யழுது பெரியதோரார வாரமெழுந்ததவ்வரையை யொருவிப்போமினென்றான். (b.) Stating inauspicious actions as praise, மங்கலமழியக்கூறுகை; உ-ம். பீலிவிரித்துப்பலமயிலி ருந்தென வழிவந்தசைந்தவ்வருத்தத்தாற்றத்தங்கேசங்களை யெடுத்து முடிக்கில்லாதுவிரித்திருப்பரவன் வரைமேல். (c.) Stating an inapplicable comparison, உவமைக்காட்சியிலூனந்தோன்றக்கூறுவது; உ-ம். பெ யலொடு வைகிய வியன்கணிரும்பனத் தகலிருவிசும்பி னாஅரல்போலவாலிதின்மலர்ந்தபுன்கொடிமுசுண்டை. (d) Stating that a calamity or injury happened to that which is compared to the patron of the poem, பாட்டுடைத்தலைவனோ டுவமிக்கப்பட்டதற் கிடையூறுபடச் சொல்லுவது; உ-ம். வெற்பினிற்பொருத விறலோனன்ன பொற்புறு பரூஉத்தாட்போதகந்துரந்த. (e.) Comparing the patron of a poem to the meanest thing, இறப்பவிழிந்தவானந்த உவமை; உ-ம் வள்ளெயிற்றுப் பேழ்வாய் ஞமலிக்கு மான்குழா மெள்ளியிரிந்தாற்போ லெவ்வழியும் வள்ளற்கு மாலார்கடலன்ன மண்பரந்த வாட்டானை மேலாருமேலார் விரைந்து. (f) Comparing the meanest person or thing to the highest, இறப்ப வுயர்ந்த வானந்தவுவமை; உ-ம். இந்திரனேபோலுமிளஞ்சாத்தன் சாத்தற்கு மந்தரமேபோ ன்றுளது மல்லாகம் மந்தரத்துத் தாழருவிபோன்றுளதுதார் மாலையம்மாலை யேழுலகுநாறுமிணர், (g.) Comparing the patron of a poem to a thing that loses its power or eminence, இறந்துபாட்டு வமையானந்தம்; உ-ம். சென்றுபடுபரிதியிற்சிறந்ததோ ற்றத்தை. 4. யாப்பானந்தம், constructing a poem so that the name of its patron may follow a noun which is preceded by a word placed after the rhyming word of the stanza, முதற் றொடைமருங்கின் மொழிநிறுத்தொருபெயரிடைப்படுத் தவ்வழியிருசீர்ப்படப்பாடுவது; உ-ம். ஊகத்தினான்ம ல்குசோலையுழியனுயர்வரைவாய் மேகத்தினாலுமின்னாலு மெலிந்துநைந்த வாகத்தினானேற்கருளாயென்பணியு மைவாய் நாகத்தினான்மால் கடைந்திடப்பட்ட நளிகட லே. 5. தூக்கானந்தம், constructing a musical poem so that the name of its patron shall be inauspiciously, indistinctly, or abruptly pronounced, யாழொடுபுணர்ந்தபாவிற்பாட்டுடைத் தலைவன்பெயர் அமங்கலமாகத்தொனிக்கவும், ஒருவற் குப்புலனாகாதிருக்கவும், பிரிந்திசைக்கவும்பாடுதல். 6. தொடையானந்தம், placing the name of the patron of a poem at the beginning of the stanza, so that it may rhyme with அளபெ டை; அளபெடைத்தொடைப்பாட்டினுட்பாட்டுடைத் தலைவன்பெயர்சார்த்தியளபெடுப்பத்தொடுப்பது; உ-ம். வாஅ வழுதிமதுரைமறுகினிற்பொலிபகைமுனைப்போர். 7)

iḷi (p. 56) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To grin, show the teeth--as in cringing, craving, &c., பல்லிளிக்க. 2. To laugh in a silly manner, to simper, giggle, களகளவெனச்சிரிக்க. 3. v. a. To ridicule, scorn, deride, பரிகாசஞ்செய்ய. 4. To disgrace, contemn, அவமதிக்க. (c.) இளித்தவாய்ப்பட்டம், s. Notoriety for grinning, இளிச்சவாயனெனப்படுகை. 2. The character of a sauntering idler. 3. The state or character of one baffled or defeated in his projects. குரங்குபோலிளித்தவாயன். One who grins like a monkey. பல்லையிளிக்க, inf. To laugh foolishly. இளிச்சற்கண், s. Blear eyes, eyes sore with rheum. இளிப்பு--இளிவு, v. noun. Grinning, simpering, tittering, பல்லிளிக்கை. 2. Ridicule, scorn, derision, இழிவு. 3. Disgrace, நிந்தை. நாயையடித்துப்பல்லிளிவுபார்க்கிறதினாலேயென் ன? What will it avail to strike a dog and then look at its grin? [prov.] எள்ளினிளிவாமென்றெண்ணி. Considering that it would be disrespectful to neglect him. (குறள்.) 8)

umiẕ (p. 62) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், உமிழ, v. n. to cast (a liquid) from the mouth, கொப்பளிக்க. 2. To spit, உமிய. 3. (p.) To vomit, retch, puke, eject from an over charged stomach, சத்தியெடுக்க. 4. To emit poison--as from the fangs of a snake; to discharge as arrows; to eject as sparks of fire, to emit as rays; to cast forth as the flower does odor; to yield honey as flowers, to emit sound, சொரிய. நஞ்சுமிழ்வேலினான். He whose dart emits poison. யானைகையுமிழ்நீர். A secretion which the elephant casts. வெங்கணையுமிழ்வில். The bow that discharges the fiery arrows. தழலுமிழ்சிறுகண்யானை. Elephants with eyes of fire. (நைடதம்.) உமிழ்நீர், s. [impr. உமிநீர்.] Spittle, saliva, துப்பல். உமிழ்நீர்குடிக்க--உமிழ்நீரூற, inf. To have the mouth water for things, to covet after. உமிழ்வு, v. noun. Casting from the mouth, spitting, துப்புகை. 2. s. (fig.) Any thing cast from the mouth--as spittle, secretion, vomit, &c., உமிழ்நீர். 79)

tāmacam (p. 233) --தாமதம், s. One of three qualities or principles in nature--that of darkness, ignorance, delusion, sluggishness, முக்குணத்தொன்று. (See குணம்.) W. p. 372. TAMASA. 2. Dilatoriness, tardiness, drowsiness, துக்கம். 3. Delay, detention, தடை. 4. Slowness, dullness, sluggishness, inactivity, மந்தகுணம். 5. Reluctance, backwardness, unwillingness, பிரிய வீனம். (c.) சொல்லுகிறதுதான்தாமசம். You no sooner direct than he complies. தாமசசிருட்டி, s. The creation of evil or powers of evil. தாமசபதார்த்தம், s. Variety of food and drinks, மதுமாமிசமுதலியன. தாமசபுராணம், s. A Purana with tamasa imperfections. தாமசப்பிரகிருதி, s. One of a bad disposition, also a sluggard, சோம்பன். தாமசவேளை, s. A time of anger or passion. 2. As தாமதவேளை. தாமசன்--தாமதக்காரன், s. A slow, inactive person. தாமதப்பட, inf. To be delayed, to be detained. 2. To linger, to be tardy, to be reluctant. தாமதப்பல்லி, s. A lizard chirping in such a direction in the house as to denote delay, obstruction, misfortune. See வரத்துப்பல்லி. தாமதம்பண்ண, inf. To delay, to detain, to prolong, to retard. தாமதவேளை, s. [in astrology.] The division of the day--it being in three parts--which is most unfavorable for enterprize. 55) *

tuppu (p. 247) கிறேன், துப்பினேன்,வேன், துப்ப, v. n. To spit, eject from the mouth, spit out from the mouth, உமிழ். (c.) அவனைக்காறித்துப்புகிறார்கள். They utterly reject or execrate him. துப்புண்ணி, appel. n. One fit to be spit upon. துப்பல், v. noun. Spitting, saliva, spittle, உமிழ்நீர். 2. [in play.] A word calling for a short respite or cessation. விளையாட்டைநிறுத்துமோர்குழூஉக்குறி. (c.) துப்பல்விட்டேன். I have closed the respite. துப்பற்காளாஞ்சி--துப்பற்படிக்கம், s. A spitting pot. துப்பு, v. noun. Spittle. 34)

vru (p. 376) கிறேன், [com. வாறேன்], வந்தேன், வேன், வர, v. a. [neg. வரேன், வாரேன், imper. வா.] To come, நடக்க. 2. To happen, occur, சம்பவிக்க. 3. To accrue, be at command--as strength to move a limb, இயல. 4. To proceed spontaneously, இயல்பாய்வர. 5. (fig.) To come to mind, தோன்ற. நீவந்தகாரியமென்ன. What is the object of your coming? நாளைக்கங்கேவருவேன். I will come there to-morrow. உனக்குப்பாடம்வருமா. Do you know your lesson. நீஎப்போவந்தாய். When did you arrive? எனக்குஅடிக்கக்கைவராது. My hand is not at command to strike him. அவன்வந்தகாலோடேபோனான். He reterned no sooner than he came. உனக்குஎன்னவந்தாலும்நான்இருக்கிறேன். I will be [near], whatever may happen. இப்பொழுதுஅவனுக்குப்பெருமைவந்துவிட்டது. He is now very proud. வந்ததைவரப்பற்று. Receive whatever comes. அவனுக்குவியாதிவந்துகொண்டேயிருக்கிறது. He is always subject to sickness. ஒருமனம்வந்தாற்கொடுப்பான். He will give you if he have a mind. உனக்குச்சம்பளம்வந்ததா. Did you get your wages? வாய்வந்தவாறெல்லாம்எழுத்தலுற்றார். They offered praises with every kind of commendation which could proceed from their mouths, (பிரபுலி.) எனக்குநினைவுவந்தது. I just remembered. அப்போதுவாய்வரவில்லை. I could not speak then. அவனுக்கிரண்டுகாலும்வராது. He lame in both feet. வந்தனம்--வந்தும், We came. (p.) வந்தனை-வந்தை, You came. (second pers. sing.) (p.) வரக்காட்ட, inf. To send off. வரத்தகும். It is right to come. வரத்து, [also வருத்து.] Advent; coming in; 2. The entrance of water. 3. The confluence of the water. இந்தக்குளத்துக்குவரத்தெங்கே. Where is the entry of water to this tank? வரத்தென்னபோக்கென்ன. What comes and what goes? வரத்துப்போக்கு, Going and coming. 2. Frequenting. வரத்தாறு, s. A tributary stream. வரத்துப்பல்லி, s. An obstructing lizard. வரப்பற்றிக்கொள்ள, inf. To receive back again. வரப்பார்க்க, inf. To expect, காக்க. 2. To suffer to come, இடங்கொடுக்க. 3. To wait for, எதிர்பார்க்க. வரப்போகிறவைகள், appel. n. Future occurrences. வரவர, [as adv.] By degrees, gradually, at length. வரவரக்கண்டறியலாம். We shall learn by degrees. வரவிட, inf. To send away. வரவொட்டாதேயடிக்க, inf. To drive away people from coming to a worthy person. வராதநாள், s. Days of absence. வரால். Come not. (p.) வருக. Please to come. வருகிற, as adj. Next. வருகிறவாரம். Next week. வருகிறமாசம். Next month, proximo. வருகிறவருஷம். Next year. வருகிறேன். I will come again. 2. I am just coming. வருங்காலம், s. Future time. 2. The future tense. 3. The expected time of one's coming. வருங்காரியம், s. A coming event. வருத்து, A coming in. 2. As வரத்து. வருபுனல், s. A river, the water of a river, ஆறு. (சது.) வருமட்டும்--வருமளவும். Until coming. வருமாறு, s. The way, manner, as வர லாறு. அவைவருமாறு. They are as follows. வருமானம், s. Income, sources of income. வருமானவரி, s. Income-tax. வருமொழி, s. [in gram.] The word which follows the antecedent. வருவதும்போவதும். Coming in and going out. வருவாய், s. Source, means of acquirement, resources or income, also called, பொருள்வருவாய், (Ell. 28.) வரல், v. noun. A coming, வருகை. 2. As வராதே, come not. (p.) வரலாம். I, you or he may come. வரலாறு, s. As வருமாறு. 2. See in its place. வரன்முறை, s. A schedule, a genealogical list, வரலாறு. 2. Old, ஊழ். (சது.) வரவு, v. noun. Coming, as வருகை. 2. Income, வருமானம். 3. Any thing received, கைப்பற்றினது. வரவுவைக்க, s. To enter in the receipt. வருகை, v. noun. A coming; an advent. வருகைநாள், s. The day for arriving. அவருடையவருகைக்கெதிர்பார்த்திருக்கிறேன்..... vetuppu (p. 400) கிறேன், வெதுப்பினேன், வே ன், வெதுப்ப, v. a. To warm, to heat to a gentle degree, வாட்ட. (c.) வெதுப்பிக்கொள்ள, inf. To warm for one's self. வெதுப்பல், v. noun. Heating, as a leaf for a medical application. 6)
