aẕku (p. 31) s. Beauty, comeliness, handsomeness, elegance, propriety, fineness, யௌவனம். (c.) 2. The beauties or graces of language or style, நஙலின்பத்தழகு. These as given in the பாயிரம் of நன்னூல், are ten; viz.: 1. சுருங்கச்சொல்லல், speaking concisely. 2. விளங்கவைத்தல், treating a subject clearly and plainly. 3. நவின்றோர்க் கினிமை, acceptableness to the educated. 4. நன்மொழிபுணர்த்தல், using elegant words, suitable expressions. 5. ஓசையுடைமை, being pleasant to the ear with a good rhythm and cadence. 6. ஆழமுடைத்தாதல், being comprehensive, profound. 7. முறையின்வைப்பு, systematic arrangement, method. 8. உலக மலையாமை, being without obscurity or contrariety. 9. விழுமியதுபயத்தல், giving a good sense, as allegorical, &c. 1. விளங்குதார ணத்ததாகுதல், having common examples of as to be understood by all. 3. One of the eight வனப்பு, in composition, the proper choice of words. (See வனப்பு.) 4. Jaggary, coarse sugar சருக்கரை. (M. Dic.) (p.) அழகன், s. [fem. அழகி.] A handsome man. 2. [Per antonomasia.] The god Vishnu, honorifically, அழகர். அழகர்மலை, s. One of the hundred and eight places sacred to Vishnu. 2. One of the six places sacred to Subramania. அழகாரம், s. Brilliancy of expression, சித்திரமாகப்பேசுகை. 2. Mere, empty compliment, வீண்புகழ்ச்சியாகப்பே சுகை. (p.) அழகுகாட்ட, inf. To display one's beauty, ornaments, make a parade of dress, &c., 2. To make odd gestures, as children, &c., mimic, mock by gestures, கரகஞ்செய்ய. (c.) அழகுத்தேமல், s. A beauty spot. See தேமல். 35)

utti (p. 60) s. Union, agreement, connection, இசைவு. Wils. p. 685. YUKTI. 2. The art which a scientific or literary author employs in treating his subject-such as the general plan, divisions, subdivisions, mode of discussion, examples, quoting authorities, showing how the sentiments of others agree with, or differ from his own, &c. In the பாயிரம் of நன்னூல், thirty-two particulars are given as proper to be kept in view by such writers, தந்திரவு த்தி. Knowledge, அறிவு. 4. A gold ornament, intended as an image of Lukshmi, worn by women, திருவுறுப்பு. 5. Yellow or tawny spots on the skin, chiefly of women, considered as a beauty, தேமல். 6. Spots on the neck of the cobra, or hooded snake, பாம்பின்படப்பொறி. 7. Words, language, discourse, பேச்சு. 8. Wealth, செல்வம். 9. Pendants, hangings--as swing, &c., தூக்கங்கள். 1. Opium, அபின். (p.)

cuṇngku (p. 193) s. A light colored spot on the body, regarded as a beauty. (See தேமல்.) 2. A slight spreading scall, or scab, induced perhaps by hot humors, &c., பசலை. 3. [vul.] v. noun. Reduction, emaciation, மெலிவு. (c.) சுணங்குபடர்தல், v. noun. The spreading of spots on the body of a woman. சுணங்குபூக்க, inf. To have spots spreading over. (p.) 49)

coṟi (p. 212) s. Itching, tingling, தினவு. 2. Scab, scurf, eruption; a small kind of itch, சொறிசிரங்கு. 3. Roughness, inequality of surface, மரச்சொறி. 4. Nettles, &c., which cause itching or tingling, கடற்சொறி. (c.) எறிவானேன்சொறிவானேன். Why offend and then ask pardon? [prov.] சொறிபிடிக்க, inf. To become itchy. சொறிசொறியாயிருக்க, inf. To be rough, full of asperities. 2. To be scabby--as itch. சொறிக்கல், s. [improp. சொரிக்கல்.] Lime-stone, சுக்கான்கல். 2. Laterite or iron-stone, தவளைக்கல். 3. Saffron-stone, மஞ்சட்கல். சொறிக்கிட்டம், s. Iron dross, கிட் டக்கல். சொறிதேய்க்க, inf. [prov.] To rub against a post--as a beast. என்னிலேசொறிதேய்க்கவருகிறான். He comes to rub his back against me; i. e. he thinks me of no account, or, comes to quarrel with me. சொறித்தேமல், s. A ring-worm. சொறித்தவளை, s. [also சொறியாந்த வளை.] A large kind of frog, whose skin is rough. சொறிநாய்--சொறிபிடித்தநாய், s. An itchy dog. (c.) சொறியன், s. A scabby person, 2. (M. D.) A frog, ஓர்தவளை. சொறியாடு, s. A scabby sheep. சொறியெழும்ப, inf. [prov.] To rise as splinters, roughness in timber, &c. பாற்சொறி, s. Scabbiness from want of milk. 14)

To mistake the way. திகைமயக்கு, v. noun. Perplexity or bewilderment as to the points of compass, roads, streets, &c., in a traveller, திசைதடுமாற்றம். 17)

tutti (p. 247) s. An eatable, any thing proper to be eaten, உண்டற்குரியன; [ex து, v.] 2. The ornamented spots on the neck of the cobra, பாம்பின்படப்பொறி. 3. Yellow, or tawny spreading spots on the skin. (See தேமல்.) 4. A plant, a species of mallow, ஓர்செடி, Indian marshmallow, Sida Mauritiana. (Ains. v. 1, p. 25.)--Note. There are different kinds, as எலிசசெவித்துத்தி. Evolvus emarginatus; ஐயிதழ்த்துத்தி, of five petals; ஒட்டுத்துத்தி, Urena sinuata; ஓரிலைத்து த்தி, கண்டுதுத்தி, Sida acuminata; காட்டுத்துத்தி. Sida hirta; கொடித்துத்தி, Sida mountana, சிறு துத்தி; செந்துத்தி, Hibiscus abtusifol, Willd; நாமத்துத்தி, Sida cristata; நிலத்துத்தி, Sida cordifolia; பணிகாரத்துத்தி, பெருந்துத்தி. tēml (p. 258) s. Yellow spreading spots on the skin in females, படர்சுணங்கு. There are several varieties as அழகுதேமல், beautiful spots, அழுக்குத்தேமல், dirty spots, பொங் குதேமல், spots indicative of good, மங்குதே மல், of disease or other evil. 2. [prov.] A kind of yellowish ring-worm. படர்தாமரை; [ex Sa. Tepa, To sprinkle, to shine.] தேமல்படர, inf. To spread as spots on the skin. தேமல்பூக்க, inf. To occur on the skin as small spots. 19)

To spread as light; darkness, fire, a rumor, an epidemic; to rise and spread, as air, smoke, or flame; to overflow as water; to extent as knowledge, ignorance, or moral evil, பாவ. 7. (சது.) These as instruments for divine worship are: மனம், the mind, or source of thought; 2. வாக்கு, the mouth, as forming words; 3. காயம், the body, producing action. ஐம்பொறி. The five organs of the body: மெய், the surface of the body--feeling; 2. வாய், the mouth--taste; 3. கண், the eye-seeing; 4. மூக்கு, the nose-smelling; 5. செவி, the ear-hearing. பொறிசிதற, inf. To fly as sparks from fire. பொறிசிந்த, inf. To scintillate, to sparkle. 2. To emit sparks. பொறிதட்ட, inf. To flash as the eyes, from a blow. 2. To slide, to slip, as the feet. பொறிபறத்தல், v. noun. Flying as sparks. 2. Sparkling as the eyes in anger. பொறியிலார், appel. n. The base, the vulgar; (lit.) senseless, கீழ்மக்கள். (சது.) பொறியிலி, appel. n. An unfortunate person, அதிட்டமற்றவன். 2.
