nil (p. 277) நிற்கிறேன், நின்றேன், நிற்பேன், நிற்க, v. n. To stand, செங்குத்தாய்நிற்க. 2. To stand still; to stop, halt, tarry, தரிக்க. 3. To abide, endure, continue, தங்க. 4. To cease, be discontinued, stopped, suspended, ஒழிய. 5. To be steadfast, to preserve, persist in a course of conduct, நிலைநிற்க. 6. To remain, be left--as matter in a boil, as disease, &c., to be left--as matter in a boil, as disease, &c., to be left due, நிலுவைநிற்க 7. To be, be in, have a lodging, or residence; to exercise functions, as the senses through their appropriate organs; to be situated as a planet; continue, as any of the four astrological times, viz: திதி, யோ கம், கரணம்,நட்சத்திரம், தத்தந்தானத்திருக்க. 8. To be suspended, postponed, adjourned, தாமதிக்க. (c.) ஒருபொருள்நிற்கிறகாலம். The time during which a thing may last. இந்தமருந்துக்கந்தவியாதிநிற்கும். The disease will yield to this medicine. பொழுதுநிற்கவா. Come while the sun lasts. அவனுக்குபாடம்நிற்கிறது. The lesson is well learnt by him. 2. He has a good memory. செல்வம்நில்லாது. Prosperity is not permanent. நின்றதுநிற்கப்புறப்பட்டார். He set out abruptly. நின்றநாளைக்குமுதலும்வட்டியும். The principal with the interest for the time it was in hand. நின்றநிலையிலேநில்லாதே.
