A miscarriage, an abortion applied chiefly to brutes--the casting of the young, வயிற்றில்மரித்தது. அழிந்தோரைநிறுத்தல், v. noun. One of the eight constituent parts of virtue, அறத்துறுப்பு. அழிபுண், s. A foul ulcer, ஆறாப் புண். (M. Dic.) அழிமதி, s. Waste, extravagance, malicious intention, கெடுபுத்தி. அழிமுதல், s. Waste of property, as of capital, principal, &c. முதலழிவு. அழிம்பு, s. [vul.] The nin-payment of a debt or the non-restoration of another's property from dishonest motives, புரட்டு. 2. Ruin, devastation, injury, damage, கேடு. என்னுடையமைக்கழிம்புபேசுகிறான். One who makes excuses for not paying debts, restoring property, &c., புரட்டன். அழியாதபத்தினி, s. A name of D'hurupary, the wife of the Pandu princes. அழியாமுதல், s. Property devoted or entailed in perpetuity to a temple or other charity, நிலையான ஆஸ்தி. 2. God, கடவுள். அழியாமை, neg. v. noun. Incorruption, immortality, imperishableness, கெடாமை. அழிவழக்கு, s. An unjust lawsuit, a groundless prosecution, a frivolous or groundless defence, a lost lawsuit, அநி யாயவழக்கு. கற்பழியாதபெண், s. A pure virgin. அழிகை, v. noun. Destruction, decay, ruin, சிதைவு. அழிவு, v. noun. Decay, injury, ruin, loss, desolation, the act of perishing. கேடு. 2. That which has perished of itself, கெட்டது. 3. Fault, immorality, (in a restricted sense,) deviation from rule, குற்றம். அன்றுகண்டமேனிக்கழிவில்லை. Just the same appearance as before. அழிவின்மை, neg. v. noun. Freedom from decay. அழிவுகாலம், s. A consonant, மெய்யெழுத்து. உடம்பைத்தேற்றிக்கொண்டன்றோயோகத்திலேபோ கவேண்டும். To engage in the austerities of a Yogi, one must strengthen himself by medicine. உடம்புதேற, inf. To be strengthened, to grow strong--as a convalescent person from food, exercise, &c. உடம்புநன்றாயிருக்க, inf. To be well, to be in health. உடம்பெடுக்க, inf. To take a body, to be born, சரீரமெடுக்க. பரிகாசம்பண்ணவும் நிந்திக்கவுமுடம்பெடுத்தான்.. He is born to be mocked and despised. கள்ளனென்றுடம்பெடுத்தவன். One who is born a rogue. உடம்புபுரட்டல், v. noun. uruṭṭu (p. 65) கிறேன், உருட்டினேன், வேன், உருட்ட, v. a. To roll a ball, or wheel, trundle a hoop, &c., to wheel a barrow, to bowl, turn about, revolve a thing on a plane, to whirl, (a discus, &c.), passing through the air at right angles with the horizon, உருளச்செய்ய. 2. [prov.] To defeat a rival by arguments, sophistry, &c., to overcome in athletic exercises, games, to overmatch, வெல்ல. 3. To beat a drum rapidly, to beat a ruffle, மத்தளம்விரை வாயடிக்க. 4. [in architecture.] To form a moulding, திரட்ட. 5. To form clay or other substances into balls or globules by rolling, working in the hand, &c; குண் டுருட்ட; [ex உருள், v.] உலகுக்குநாயகனாயோராழிதனியுருட்டி. Guiding the wheel of power as the sovereign of the universe. அவனைப்புடையனுருட்டும். The beaver snake will bite, will tumble him over (and bite him). (A curse.) உருட்டித்தைக்க, inf. To roll and sew a border--a kind of hemming. உருட்டிப்பார்க்க--உருட்டிவிழிக் க, inf. To roll the eyes and look intently with signs of anger or intimidation. உருட்டிப்போட, inf. To roll a ball, &c. 2. To defeat by arguments, by a display of skill, or by sophistry, to overcome in games, &c., புரட்டிவிட, 3. To be the cause of ruin to a family, &c., அழித்துப்போட. அசத்தியமந்தக்குடியையுருட்டிபோட்டது. Perjury has ruined the family. ஆனையவனையுருட்டிப்போட்டது. The elephant rolled him over and over. உருட்டுதிரைக்கடல், s. The sea with rolling billows. குளிகையுருட்ட--மாத்திரையுருட் ட, inf. To form or make pills. (Med.) நாயுருட்ட, inf. To tumble down and bite--said of a dog. வாயாலுருட்ட, inf. To use sophistry, to dispute clamorously. கவறுருட்ட, inf. To throw dice'. உருட்டு, v. noun. Rolling, revolving on a plane, the revolution or turning of a wheel, whirling, உருட்டுகை. 2. Fraud, artifice, trick, sophistry in overcoming an antagonist, புரட்டு. 3. [in architecture.] Roundness, globosity, moulding, திரட்சி. 4. Terrifying, frightening, driving away, வெருட்டு. உருட்டும்புரட்டுஞ்சிரட்டையுங்கையும். Prevarication and lying lead to begging. ūttai (p. 70) s. Filth connected with the teeth, body, &c., excrement, excretion, &c.; any ceremonial uncleanness especially from catamenia, சரீரவழுக்கு. 2. Filth in general, dirt, foulness, stain, tarnish, அழுக்கு. 3. (p.) Butcher's meat, flesh, fish, ஊன். ஊத்தைக்குவிளாங்காய்சேர்ந்தாற்போலிருக்கிறது... The union of a person with another as bad as himself is like eating wood apple with unclean teeth. ஊத்தைபோகக்குளித்தவனுமில்லைப்பசிபோகத்தின் றவனுமில்லை. None washes himself so as not to require it again, nor does any one eat so as not to hunger again. ஊத்தைகுடியன், s. A kind of goblin, ஓர்பிசாசு. ஊத்தைச்சீலை, s. Menstruous cloth, சூதகச்சீலை. 2. ūr (p. 70) s. A country, a village, town, or city, புரம். ஊரறிந்தபார்ப்பான். A brahman who knows the whole country or town; i. e. a person competent for business. ஊருடன்கூடிவாழ். Prosper in the society of your fellow citizens. ஊரோடேபோய்ச்சேர்ந்தான். He arrived at home. ஊரன், s. The chief of an agricultural district, மருதத்தலைவன். (p.) ஊரவர்கள்--ஊரார், s. Inhabitants of a village, town, country, &c. 2. Others, strangers, not one's own people, அன்னியர்.--Used adjectively, the ர் is often dropped--as ஊராகாரியம், others' affairs; ஊராசொத்து, others' property; ஊ ராகாணி, others' land. ஊராருடைமைக்குப்பேராசைகொள்ளுதல்..... Coveting other men's property-துஷ்டப்பிள்ளைக்குஊரார்புத்திசொல்லுவார்கள்... An unruly child will be chastized by the magistrates. ஊரார்கையிற்கொடுக்க, inf. To deliver into another man's hand. ஊராளி, s. The ruler, magistrate, or headman of a district, ஊரதிகாரி. ஊரிலிகம்பலை, s. [prop. ஊர்கலி கம்பலை.] A village quarrel, tumult, &c. ஊரின்னிசை, s. A poem concerning the heroes of a town, or country, ஓர்பிரபந்தம். See பிரபந்தம். ஊருக்குப்போக, inf. To go to a town, to go on a journey. ஊருணி, s. A public tank accessible to all in the town, ஊரடுத்தகுளம். ஊருணிநீர்நிறைந்தற்றேயுலகவாம்பேரறிவாளன் றிரு. The wealth of one possessing great wisdom, and who is much liked by the public is like a tank filled with water to which all have access. ஊரெழுச்சி, s. Rising of citizens to present complaints to the authorities; also insurrection, ஊர்க்கலகம். ஊர்கூடுதல், v. noun. Assembling --as citizens. ஊர்கூடிச்செக்குத்தள்ளவேண்டுமா? Is it necessary that the whole city come together to turn the oilman's press? i. e. a trifling matter does not require a concourse of people. ஊர்கோலம்வர--ஊர்வலம்வர, inf. To pass about as a nuptial procession, first to the right as being auspicious, கிராமப்பிரதட்சணம்வர. ஊர்க்கதை, s. Rumor, countrytalk, ஊர்ப்பேச்சு. 2. Unfounded reports, slander, defamation, பொய்ச்செய்தி. 3. A wild, romantic story, வீண்செய்தி. ஊர்க்கலகம், s. A village quarrel, ஊரிலுண்டாகுங்கலகம். 2. A poem in the நேரிசைவெண்பா incorporated with the name of the hero's town, ஓர்பிரபந்தம். ஊர்ப்பகை, s. Public hatred, general dislike. 2. Hatred of one's own country. ஊருடன்பகைக்கில்வேருடன்கெடும். One who lives contentiously with his fellow citizens shall be rooted out. (ஔவை.) ஊர்ப்பழி, s. Public censure, or blame, ஊர்நிந்தை. ஊர்ப்பாடு, s. A kind of ant whose bite causes swelling, acute pain Formica compressa, Fabr. முசிட்டெறும்பு--முசிற்றெறும்பு, (s.) [prop. முயிறு]. A kind of large red ant which makes its nest on trees, and whose bite is very painful, Formica elongata, Fabr. A medicinal oil is prepared from their eggs--called முயிற்றுமுட் டைத்தைலம். தலைப்புரட்டையெறும்பு, s. A kind of black ant with a large head constantly shaking. கடுத்தவாயெறும்பு, s. Virgins, deified females who were pious virgins on earth, afterward born in deified forms, in the supernal worlds in some one of the three lower states of bliss, கன்னியர். கன்னிமையழித்தல்--கன்னியழித் தல், s. kuṉmam (p. 132) s. A disease, a chronic enlargement of the spleen; also, any glandular enlargement in the abdomen--as of the mesenteric gland, &c., causing indigestion, colic and great emaciation. There are eight kinds, viz: எரிகுன்மம், சத்திகுன்மம், சன்னிகுன் மம், சிலேட்டுமகுன்மம், குலைக்குன்மம், பித்தகுன்மம், வலிகுன்மம், வாதகுன்மம், which see severally. 2. A division of an army. (See குலுமம்.) 3. Bushes; thickets, தூறு. Wils. p. 294. GULMA. குன்மக்கட்டி, s. A formation or enlargement in the abdomen. அவனுக்குக்குன்மங்கண்டிருக்கிறது. He has the குன்மம் disease. குன்மசூலை, s. Nervous paralysis--also obstruction of the viscera. (Rott.) குன்மப்புரட்டு, s. [prov.] Dyspepsia; an acute pain, attending the குன்மம் disease from indigestion, causing vomiting, distortions, &c. குன்மவலி, s. Internal pain or gripe consequent on the குன்மம் disease. குன்மவாயு, s. Flatulency connected with the குன்மம் disease. 68)

cūṉiyam (p. 201) s. Witchcraft, conjuring, sorcery, magic, enchantment, மாரணவித்தை, 2. Ceremonial defilement, அசுசி. 3. Vacuity, vacuum, chasm, nonentity, inanity, nonexistence of a being, quality, attribute, &c., இன்மை. 4. W. P. 854. S'OONYA. Emptiness, vacancy, void, பாழ். 5. Vanity, that which is unreal, unsubstantial, illusory, useless, unproductive, unpropitious, மரபை. 6. (Compare சன்.) Cipher in arithmetic, பூச்சியம்.--Note. The articles used in witchcraft (சூனியதிரவியம்), are seven, viz.: 1. எலும்பு, bones. 2. எட்டிவிறகு, wood of the poison-nut tree. 3. ஊமத்தம் வித்து, seeds of the datura. 4. வேப்பெண் ணெய், margosa-oil. 5. கரி, charcoal. 6. எருக் கம்பூ, flowers of the asclepias gigantea. 7. பாம்பு முள்மாலை, garland of the vertebra of the cobra-de-capella. சூனியகதி, s. A section in the poem of பிரபுலிங்கலீலை. சூனியக்காரன், s. fem. சூனியக்காரி.) A wizard, sorcerer, enchanter. சூனியம்பண்ண--சூனியஞ்செய்ய, inf. To be witch, to work witchcraft. 2. To injure, destroy, defile, annihilate, ruin. சூனியதிசை, s. The S. E. point of the compass, bring by some astrological or other influence deemed unpropitious. 2. The direction or side in which the breath does not pass from the nostril, right or left, at any given time. See. சரம். சூனியநிதி, s. A phasis of the moon, which, when a similar one occurs in the same month, is regarded as unpropitious, the other being propitious. சூனியத்துவம், s. Vacuity, emptiness, &c.,--as சூனியம், 4, 5, 6, which see. சூனியநாள், s. An unpropitious day. See கிழமைச்சூனியம். சூனியமனை, s. Bewitched ground. சூனியமாதம், s. Unpropitious months, viz.: மாசி, ஆடி, புரட்டாதி, மார்கழி, (c.) சூனியமாய்க்கிடக்க, inf. To lie waste, to be desolate. சூனியமெடுக்க, inf. To remove the evil ascribed to whichcraft. சூனியம்வைக்க, inf. To bury bewitched articles for the injury of some one. சூனியமாய்ப்போக, inf. To be annihilated. 2. To be useless, unprofitable. 3. To be degenerate, to be ruined--as சுத் தசூனியமாய்ப்போய்விட்டான். சூனியவாதம், s. Atheism as a system, நாஸ்திகமதம். சூனியவாதி, s. An atheist. 2. (c.) As சூ னியக்காரன். சூனியவித்தை, s. Witchcraft, as சூனி யம். சூனியன், s. A lame person, a cripple, முடவன். (சது.) விவேகசூனியன்--ஞானசூனியன், s. One who has no wisdom, no wit; a fool. சூனியோபாதானம், s. [in Hindu Theology] Nonentity--as the material cause of created beings and things; nothing, considered as a principle from which the visible universe came into existence. See மயோபாதானம். tṭṭu (p. 222) v. noun. Knock, tap, stroke, pat, rap, தட்டுகை. 2. Breaking, knocking, patting, தட்டல். 3. Scarcity, straits, extremity, குறை. 4. Drawing near, கிட்டுகை. 5. Warding off, averting, நீக்கல். 6. Evasion, prevarication, புரட்டு. 7. A dexterous performance or man&oe;uvre, உபாயம். 8. Stalk of grain, பயிர்த்தாள். 9. Striking against, collision, முட்டுதல். 1. Frustration, thwarting, விலக்கு. 11. Opposition, check, impediment, தடை. 12. Getting money by deception, swindling, பித்தலாட்டம். 13. (fig.) A cunning remark, a repartee, an insinuation, சூத்திரப்பேச்சு. 14. Patting, மெய்ப்பரிசத் திலொன்று. 15. Publishing by striking a gong, &c., தாளம்போடல்.--Note. In many of these meanings the word is used in cant. (c.) அவனுக்குநல்லதட்டு. He had a good profit. சாப்பாட்டுக்குஇப்போதுஅதிகதட்டு. Now a days, I am much straitened for food. ஒருதட்டுத்தட்டிவிட்டான். He has warded it off, acquitted himself well, given a gentle blow. ஒருதட்டுத்தட்டியிருக்கிறார். He has said something to frustrate the matter, or thrown in a word, &c. [prov.] தட்டிலும்வீச்சிலுங்காரியம்பார்க்க. To make a display and shift the expense on others. தட்டிலேவயிறுவளர்க்க. To support one's self at another's expense. தட்டுக்காரன், s. A rogue, a cunning fellow. 2. An evader, a prevaricator. தட்டுத்தட்ட, inf. To give a tap. 2. To evade. 3. To thwart or frustrate. 4. To act dexterously. தட்டுத்தடவல், v. noun. As தட்டல்த டவல், which see. தட்டாயிருக்க, inf. To be destitute, to be in straits. செலவுக்குத்தட்டாயிருக்கிறது. We are in want of the means of subsistence. தட்டுக்கொட்டு, v. noun. [prov.] Exterior show without accomplishing one's wish. 2. A bauble, gew-gaw. 3. Living by stratagem, &c. தட்டுத்தடக்கு, v. noun. Hesitation, impediment. தட்டுத்தடக்கில்லாமல்வாசிக்கிறான். He reads fluently. தட்டுத்தாவரம், s. [prov.] Resort, resource, refuge, புகலிடம். தட்டுப்பட, inf. To be hit, to be struck--commonly accidentally. 2. To be tapped or beaten as a drum, cymbal, &c. 3. To lack, to be wanting--as stores, money, rain, &c. 4. To be felt by contact. 5. To be stopped in progress, as a vehicle, a performer, &c., To be understood. அவன் என்கண்ணுக்குத்தட்டுப்படவில்லை. I have not seen him any where. இப்போதுதான்எனக்குத்தட்டுப்பட்டது. Now I understand it. தட்டுண்டுபோக, inf. To be beaten off, scattered. 2. To be all threshed out--as rape-seed. 3. To be thwarted, to fail, as an expected good. 4. To be upset, overturned. 5. To exchange commodities clandestinely, and fraudulently. தட்டுக்கெட, inf. To be greatly alarmed, to stand aghast. 2. To be in extremity, in destitution. 3. To suffer loss. தட்டுக்கெட்டுத்தடுமாறிப்போனான். He was greatly surprized. தட்டுக்கெட்டசமாசாரம், s. A complicated business. தட்டுக்கேடு, v. noun. To strike in playing on drums, tambourines, the guitar, &c., with a plectrum, or otherwise, கொட்ட. 6. To strike against, commonly accidentally. dash against, மூட்ட. 7. [with dative.] To be scanty, wanting, as food, rain, water, &c., to be reduced, as the milk of a cow, குறைவுபட. 29. To elude, to escape, தப்ப. 3. [with dative.] To be at fault, to fail, as the hand playing on an instrument, writing, performing an operation, &c., or the tongue in reading or speaking, &c., தவற. 31. To hobble as a verse, தலைகாட்ட.--Note. The meanings are often cant. அனேகரைக்காய்ச்சல்தட்டிப்போட்டது. The fever has prostrated many persons. தண்ணீர்தலைதட்டநிற்கிறது. The water is head deep. [prov.] தலையைத்தட்டிப்போட்டது. It has carried off his head. தேடியபொருள்காலிலேதட்டினதுபோல. As if the thing sought for, had struck against the foot; i. e. getting accidentally the thing desired. நெஞ்சிலேதட்டிப்பார். Knock at your own breast, and inquire. பல்லைத்தட்டிவிடு. Knock out his teeth. மரங்கள் தெருத்தட்டநிற்கின்றன. The trees extend the whole length of the street. [prov.] தொண்டைக்குள்ளேஏதோதட்டுகிறது. There is something in my throat obstructing the passage. அவன்என்வார்த்தையைத்தட்டிப்போட்டான். He has disobeyed me. மழைதட்டிப்போயிற்று. Rain is deficient. அரிசித்தட்டிப்போயிற்று. The rice is nearly exhausted; or rice is very dear and scarce. தட்டாமல்முட்டாமல் விழுங்கிப்போட்டான். He has swallowed it (his large income) without difficulty. [prov.] தட்டாமல்வைக்க, inf. To place things so as not to touch each other. தட்டவைக்கப்பார்க்க--தட்டவைக்கநி னைக்க, inf. To put one on a wrong scent when in pursuit of another. தட்டிக்கிளம்ப--தட்டியெழும்ப, inf. To rice grow high, or tall. 2. To rise to affluence, influence, &c. 3. To be animated with joy, or zeal for an enterprize; to be roused with anger. தட்டிக்கேட்க, inf. To speak or remonstrate. தட்டிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To quiet, to lull by tapping. 2. To cheer, to encourage men or beasts by patting on the back, shoulders, &c. 3. [in prison bars.] To tap a person so that another may grasp him. தட்டிக்கொள்ள, inf. To be exhausted, to be in want. 2. To strike against, to be resisted, by an obstacle. 3. To be retarded in reading, speaking, or business. 4. To fail, to prove inadequate. 5. To shake off the dust by striking the foot upon the ground. மேலேதட்டிக்கொள்ளாதே. Don't come in contact with me--said by one afraid of defilement. கப்பல்நிலந்தட்டிக்கொண்டது. The ship is aground, striking, &c. தட்டிச்சொல்ல, inf. To contradict. 2. [prov.] To speak, or repeat a lesson with hesitation; to stammer. தட்டிப்பறிக்க, inf. To strike and snatch away. 2. To get by stratagem. தட்டிப்பறைசாற்ற, inf. To publish by beat of drum. 2. To blab out private matters, to asperse one's character. தட்டிப்பார்க்க, inf. To try to fish out secrets from one. 2. To sit one's erudition, caste, property, &c. 3. To try silver coins, by ringing, and snapping them with the fingers. தட்டிப்பேச, inf. To oppose, to remonstrate, to object, to protest against. தட்டிப்போட, inf. To strike and spill; to over-turn, &c. 2. (fig.) To overcome one in a game, &c. தட்டிமாற, inf. To evade, shift a fault upon another; to baffle one and escape. 2. To give one a heavy blow. தட்டியெடுத்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To secure a thing for one's self, deceiving another. 2. To get a thing in spite of the endeavours of others. தட்டியெழுப்ப, inf. To tap and rouse one. தட்டியோட்ட, inf. (also. அதட்டியோ ட்ட.) To drive beasts rapidly. தட்டிவிட, inf. To strike and overturn. 2. To cheer by patting the shoulders of combatants, &c. 3.
