virāṭṭu (p. 397) s. The first progeny of Brahma, who, having divided himself into male and female, produced Viraj from the female; Viraj by himself produced the first Menu, or Swayamb'huva, who was the progenitor of the Prajapatis, and the secondary framer of the visible world. According to some, Viraj is the same as Para-Brahma. the primary cause. See W. p. 781. VIRAJ.
