koṭu (p. 146) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To give, grant, afford, bestow, present, ஈய. 2. In combination, to issue--as commands; கட்டளையளிக்க; to communicate, impart--as knowledge, அறிவிக்க; to supply, give aid, உத விசெய்ய; to stay with the hand, or give support, முட்டுக்கொடுக்க; to create, give existence--as the Supreme Being, சிருட் டிக்க; to give place, to yield, இடங்கொடுக்க. Note.-- This word is generally used in its direct meanings of give, &c., only when there is a receiver, so as to correspond with வாங்க. It is therefore, except as to the elephant, incorrectly, though commonly, used in reference to the lower animals, Strictly also it implies the giving of a superior, to an inferior; but these distinctions are little noticed. When combined with the gerund of another verb or with a noun, the meaning is often modified--as சொல்லிக்கொடுக்க, to instruct, to teach; காட்டிக்கொடுக்க, to betray; முதுகு கொடுக்க, புறங்கொடுக்க, பின்கொடுக்க, to turn the back, to flee. கொடுப்பதொழியேல். Cease not to give [the poor.] கொடுக்கல்வாங்கல், v. noun. Dealing, bargaining. 2. Lending, borrowing, &c. அவனுக்குமெனக்குங்கொடுக்கல்வாங்கலுண்டு.... He and I have business transactions together. கொடுக்கல்வாங்கல்பண்ண, inf. To deal, bargain, barter; to lend and barrow. கொடுக்குமதி, s. [prov.] What is due to one, a debt. கொடாமை, v. noun. Not giving, withholding. கொடான். He will not give. கொடுத்துக்காட்ட, inf. To give and thus unintentionally encourage further application. கொடுத்துக்காட்டினால்விடார்கள். If you give way and encourage them, they will not let you be quiet. கற்றுக்கொடுக்க, inf. [loc.] To teach. சாகக்கொடுக்க, inf. To lose by death-as a mother her child, &c. புருஷனையுமகனையுஞ்சாகக்கொடுத்தேன்..... I have given my husband and son to death--lost them by death. நிறங்கொடுக்க, inf. To tinge, give a color. 2. To be sleek, smooth, plump-as a person in health. பால்பழங்கொடுக்க, inf. To present milk and peeled plantain--as the bride, to the bridegroom; the first food supplied to him. பெண்கொடுக்க, inf. To give a girl in marriage. முடித்துக்கொடுக்க, inf. To finish and give to another. 2. To marry; to give in marriage. வாங்கிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To take and give, that is, buy for another. கொடுப்பன--கொடுப்பனை, v. noun. Giving in marriage, கொள்வனை is receiving or marrying. எங்களுக்குமவர்களுக்குங் கொள்வினைகொடுப்பினை யில்லை. We do not intermarry. 6)

kōttiram (p. 150) s. Tribe, race, caste, lineage, ancestry, parentage, குலம். (c.) 2. A class, genus, species, வர்க்கம். 3. The earth, பூமி. 4. A mountain, a hill, மலை. W. p. 298. GOTRA. கோத்திரமறிந்து பெண்கொடு பாத்திரமறிந்து பிச்சை யிடு. Know one's parentage, and then give a girl in marriage; know one's desert and then give him alms. கோத்திரங்கூற--கோத்திரஞ்செப்ப, inf. To proclaim another's parentage-usually in disparagement. கோத்திரஞ்சூத்திரஞ்சொல்ல, inf. [prov.] To assert one's ancestry and the Vedic verse of his family--as a brahman among strangers. கோத்திரமின்மை, s. (neg.) Being without parentage, lineage, &c.; one of the eight attributes of the deity. See எண் குணம், under குணம். 49) *

peṇ (p. 332) s. [gen. பெண்ணின்.] A female in general, பெண்பொது. 2. A female of the human species, a woman. a girl, &c., ஆட வள். 3. A bride, a wife, விவாகப்பெண். 4. The feminine gender in the animal and vegetable kingdom, விலங்குமுதலியவற்றின்பெண். (c.) பெண்ணென்றால்பேயுமிரங்கும். Even a fiend will pity a woman. பெண்கரு, s. Female embryo. பெ பெண்கலை, s. The latter half of a verse, called வண்ணம். பெண்கள்சிகாமணி, s. A jewel-like woman. (in admiration.) பெண்கள்நாயகம், s. An excellent woman, a lady. பெண்குறி, s. Pudendum muliebre. பெண்கேட்க, inf. To solicit a girl of her friends, in marriage. பெண்கொடி, s. A lady; (lit.) a female vine. (p.) பெண்கொடுக்க, inf. To give a girl in marriage. பெண்கொடுத்தமாமன், s. A father-inlaw, as distinguished from தாய்மாமன். பெண்கொள்ள--பெண்ணெடுக்க, inf. To take a wife, to take a woman in marriage, to marry. பெண்கோலம்--பெண்வேஷம், s. Female attire or costume. பெண்சகோதரம், s. A sister, உடன்பி றந்தாள். (Colloq.) பெண்சாதி, s. A wife, மனைவி. (usage.) பெண்சோடினை, s. Adorning a bride for marriage. 2. See சோடினை. பெண்டகர்--பெண்டர், s. [pl.] Hermaphrodites, eunuchs, அலிகள். (சது.) பெண்டகை--பெண்டகைமை, s. Womanhood, feminine properties, excellencies; [ex தகை, nature.] (p.) பெண்ணரசி, s. A reigning female, a queen. 2. An opulent lady, செல்வமுடை யாள். பெண்ணரசு, s. Female government. 2. A superior woman. 3. [met.] Domination of a woman. பெண்ணரசுநாடு, s. A country governed by a woman. பெண்ணலம், s. Female excellency; [ex நலம்.] 2. Enjoyment with a woman, பெண்ணின்பம். பெண்ணன், s. A timid, effeminate, cowardly man, வீரமற்றவன். பெண்ணாசை, s. Desire for a woman. See ஆசை. பெண்ணாய்ப்பிறந்தவள், appel. n. A female, a woman; (lit.) one born a female. பெண்ணாய்ப்பிறந்தவள் வீட்டிலிருக்கவேண்டும். A woman should keep at home. பெண்ணாள், s. [in astrol.] The female division of the lunar asterism; [ex நாள்.] பெண்ணீலி, s. A very atrocious, wicked woman. 2. A female demon; [ex நீலி.] பெண்ணுடம்பு, s. The body of a woman. 2. See பனை. பெண்பாடு, s. Women's work or affair. பெண்பால், s. [in gram.] Feminine gender. See பால். பெண்பிள்ளை, s. A female infant, a girl, பெண்குழந்தை. 2. A woman, in general. 3. A bride, மணப்பெண். பெண்பிறப்பு, s. Female birth, commonly regarded as a misfortune. பெண்புத்தி--பெண்மதி, s. Female indiscretion; woman's wit. [in contempt.] பெண்புத்திபின்புத்தி. Female advice will result in disappointment. பெண்பேதை, s. A female, as being weak and indiscreet. பெண்போகம், s. Enjoyment with a woman. 2. One of the thirty-two acts of charity, and of the eight enjoyments. See அறம், and போகம். பெண்மகள், s. A woman, a lady, பெண். பெண்மயக்கம்--பெண்மயல், s. Fascination from love-sickness. பெண்மயிர், s. Female locks, அளகம். பெண்மரம், s. A female tree or plant, &c. 2. (சது.) A tree, the outside of which is harder than the inside, புறவயிர முள்ளமரம். பெண்மாயம், s. Fascinations of a women. பெண்மாறி. See பெட்டைமாறி. பெண்மை, s. Womanliness, nature of women, பெண்டன்மை. 2. Household dignity, domestic excellence, மனைமாட் சிமை. (சது.) பெண்மைச்சினைப்பெயர், s. [in gram.] Nouns feminine, from any member, or part, as முடத்தி, a female cripple-- also applied to the lower animals. பெண்மைச்சினைமுதற்பெயர், s. Nouns feminine from a member but including the whole body, as முடக்கொற்றி, the lame Kotty, though lame only in a limb. பெண்மைமுதற்பெயர், s. Nouns feminine being the name of a person, as கொற்றி, a woman. பெண்வகை, 4. Four classes of women: 1. பதுமினி, the highest class, possessing excellence of form, and sweetness of disposition; 2. சித்திருணி or சித்தினி, a class addicted to love; 3. சங்கினி, a mediocre class, irascible and passionate; 4. அத்தினி, the lowest class libidinous and furious. பெண்வழி, s.
