உயர்
uyr (p. 63) --உயரு, கிறேன், உயர்ந்தேன், வேன், உயர, v. n. To rise, become high, tall, elevated, to grow, or rise high, வளர. 2. To rise as water; to ascend as a paper kite; to rise towards the meridian as a heavenly body, மேலெழ. 3. To become proud, vain, self-conceited, consequential, to be elated, இறுமாக்க. 4. To be excellent, exalted, eminent, dignified, மேன்மையுற. In neuter forms it is found chiefly in the past tense. 5. To be raised or lifted up, உன்ன தப்பட. உயரப்பறந்தாலுமூர்க்குருவிபருந்தாமோ? Though it soars high, will the sparrow become a hawk? ஓதற்றொழிலுரித்துயர்மூவருக்கும். The study of the vedas belongs to the three superior castes. வரம்புயரநீருயருநீருயரநெல்லுயருநெல்லுயரக்குடி யுயருங்குடியுயரமுடியுயரும். A high caste. உயர்குலத்தோர், s. Persons of high caste or family. உயர்திணை, s. [in grammar.] The superior or rational class. See திணை. உயர்தினம், s. A high day, a festival, பெருநாள். உயர்நிலம், s. High caste persons, உயர்குலத்தோர். 3. The celestials, வானோர். 4. Brahmans, பார்ப்பார். உயர்மலை, s. A high mountain. உயர்ச்சி, s. [impr. உயர்த்தி.] Height, elevation, loftiness, altitude, eminence, sublimity, உயர்வு. 2. Excellency, superiority, dignity, moral worth, exaltation, மேன்மை. உயர்த்திதாழ்த்திபார்த்தல். Regarding the hours of one's caste, rank, property, &c., fastidiously. உயர்ச்சிகாட்ட, inf. To show one's superiority. 2. To exhibit one's real dignity. உயர்பு--உயர்வு, s. To elevate the character of any one, to improve the disposition, increase learning, moral worth, to exalt, dignify, promote, உயர்த்த. 2. எழுப்பம்
eẕuppm (p. 75) [prov. impr. for எழும்பல்.] Rising, getting up; rising--as from sickness, or from reduced circumstances, எழு ம்புகை. 2. The rising, running about, &c., of persons weak, delirious, சஞ்சரிக்கை. 3. Growth, elevation--as of a tree, height, உயர்வு. அந்தமாடிந்தமாட்டுக்கெழுப்பம். That bullock is taller than this. அவருக்குக்கால்கையெழுப்பமில்லை. He has not the use of his hands, or feet. 17)
ஏழு
ēẕu (p. 79) . Seven, septuple, seven fold, ஓரெண்.--Note. Seven is considered a special or sacred number. As a prefix it is often எழு or ஏழ். எழுகடல்--ஏழ்கடல், s. The seven oceans. எழுநிலைக்கோபுரம், s. A tower seven stories high. எழுநிலைமாடம், s. A palace seven stories high, lit. with seven door frames one above another. எழுபிறப்பு--ஏழ்பவம்--ஏழ்பிறப் பு, s. The seven different living beings, viz.: 1. தேவர், supernals. 2. மக்கள், men. 3. விலங்கு, beasts. 4. பறவை, birds. 5. ஊர்வன, reptiles. 6. நீர்வாழ்வன, aquatic creatures. 7. தாவரம், immovable things --as trees, plants. ஏழடிபின்போக, inf. To accompany a poet or learned person seven steps on his departure. ஏழத்தனை. Seven-fold. ஏழரை--எழரையாண்டுச்சனி, s. The period of saturn's evil influence being seven-and-half years. See மங்கு சனி, பொங்குசனி, மரணசனி. ஏழனுருபு, s. The seventh case or local ablative, ஏழாம்வேற்றுமையுருபு. ஏழாங்கால், s. The first post of the marriage-shed when planted on the seventh day before the wedding, a lucky day being chosen. ஏழுகோணம், s. A heptagon, septangular figure. ஏழுதீவு, s. The seven continents. ஏழுபருவம், s. The seven stages of life. See பருவம். ஏழுலகம், s. The seven worlds, including the earth and six supernal worlds. ஏழேழு, s. Seven times seven. 2. Seven of each, எவ்வேழு. ஏழேழுதலைமுறை, s. Seven generations, the duplication of the numeral indicating and equal number of generations both on the side of husband and wife. ஏழ்பரியோன், s. The sun as drawn by seven green horses, ஆதித்தன். ஏழ்புரி, s. The seven sacred cities, also witten ஏழ்புர, and ஏழ்தலம். See புரி. ஈரேழுலகம், s. The fourteen worlds, viz.: seven supernal and seven infernal. See உலகம். ஏழ்சுரம், s. The seven sounds of the diatonic scale. எவ்வேழு, s. Seven of, to, for, or from each, seven by seven. 74)

சப்பாணி
cppāṇi (p. 160) s. The palm of the hands with the fingers extended; also clapping the open hands--as infants; one of the ten parts of infant poetry, describing the age of the child when it begins to clap its hands, பிள்ளைக்கவியினோருறுப்பு. 2. One lame in the feet, and sitting flat on the ground; a cripple, a maimed person. முடவன். 3. from Sa. Chapat'a.) Sitting flat and cross-legged--as சப்பணம். சப்பாணிகொட்ட, inf. See கொட்டு, v. சப்பாணிப்பருவம், s. One of the ten stages of infancy, that in which the child begins to clap its hands and play. சப்பாணிமாடன், s. [prov.] A kind of demon, நொண்டிப்பசாசு. 44)
சுடலை
cuṭlai (p. 193) s. A burning ground, a place for burning dead bodies, மயானம்; [ex சுடு, burn.] (c.) சுடலையிற்பேய். Devils that haunt burning places. சுடலைகாக்க, inf. To watch the funeral pile till the body is consumed; the office of a பறையன். சுடலைக்கரை, s. A place for burning the dead. சுடலைக்காடு, s. As சுடுகாடு. சுடலைக்குருவி, s. [prov.] A bird of passage with a long tail and large crest; which is active chiefly by night. Compare சாக்குருவி. சுடலைஞானம், s. (Sometimes சுடுகாட்டு வைராக்கியம்.) Solemn but transient impressions at a cremation. சுடலைநீறு, s. Ashes from the funeral pile. சுடுகாட்டுச்சாம்பல். சுடலைமாடன், s. An imp, a horrid goblin, ஓர்பேய். சுடலையாடி, s. சுவர்
cuvr (p. 197) s. [improp. செவர்.] A wall. 2. The shell of the mundane egg surrounding the universe. அண்டச்சுவர்.--Note. There are உட்சுவர், புறச்சுவர், கற்சுவர், கைபி டிசுவர், குட்டிச்சுவர், மண்சுவர், சோற்றாலெடுத்தசு வர், &c., which see severally.--The word sometimes changes to சுவத்து and செவத்து in its compounds. சுவரிருந்தாலல்லோசித்திரமெழுதலாம். If the wall remain you may draw pictures on it; i. e. if your body be in health, you may accomplish much. சுவர்க்கால், s. The bottom of a wall, சுவரருகு. சுவரெறிபந்து, s. [prop.] A ball tossed against a wall--spoken of things that admit of no settlement. சுவரகழ்கருவி, s. [com. கன்னக்கோல்.] A robber's instrument for breaking through walls. (p.) சுவரறை, s. An opening for a shelf in a wall. சுவரெழுப்ப, inf. To raise a wall. சுவரெடுக்க, inf. To put up a wall. சுவரொட்டி, s. A kind of plant growing on walls, சுவர்முள்ளங்கி, Prenanthes sonchifolia, L. (M. Dic.) 2. [prov.] the liver of a sheep, stuck to a wall as a charm. (c.) 3. A buttress, அணைசுவர். சுவர்தீற்ற, inf. To polish a wall. சுவர்பூச, inf. To plaster a wall. சுவர்போட, inf. To put up a wall, as சுவரெடுக்க. சுவர்த்தலம், s. A wall--as சுவர். சுவர்த்தாங்கி-சுவர்தாங்கி, s. A buttress, அணைசுவர். சுவர்நாகம், s. A kind of venomous serpent, ஓர்பாம்பு. சுவர்ப்பலகை, s. The upright boards of a box, wardrobe, &c. சுவர்மட்டம், s. The level of the wall. சுவர்மாடம், s. A square cavity in the inside wall of a house. சுவர்முள்ளங்கி, s. [vul. சுவத்துமுள் ளங்கி.] A plant--as சுவரொட்டி. சுவர்விரியன், s. A kind of poisonous snake. See விரியன். சுவர்வைக்க, inf. To build a wall. 32) *
சேதாரம்
cētārm (p. 207) s. Waste of gold or silver in testing it on the touch stone, உரைத் தலாதியால்வருநஷ்டம். 2. Waste or loss in metals by fusion, malleation, filing, &c., உருக்கலாதியால்வருநஷ்டம். 3. Waste of commodities in weighing, measuring, &c., for which deduction is allowed, அளவாதி யால்வருஞ்சேதம். (c.) 4. Loss by cattle trespassing, for which damage is paid, மாடாதிகளால்வருநஷ்டம். (Coast usage.) [vul.] 5. (Tel. for. சேதம்.) Loss, damage, injury, கேடு. 6. The தேமா tree. 7. The வெட்சி flower-shrub. சிந்திச்சேதாரமாய்ப்போனது. It was all spit and wasted. 43)
தடி
tṭi (p. 222) s. A stick, staff, rod, தடிக்கொம்பு. 2. A club, a cudgel, bludgeon, தண்டம். 3. A rod or pole for measuring land, அள வுகோல். (c.) 4. A rice field, வயல். 5. Compartment of a rice field, பாத்தி. 6. A pestle, உலக்கை. 7. A bow, வில். 8. (a contraction of தடித்து.) Lightning, மின்னல். 9. Flesh, ஊன். 1. A guana, உடும்பு.--Note. There are different kinds of தடி--as இருப்புத் தடி, கிலுக்குத்தடி, குணுக்குத்தடி, சோட்டாத்தடி, நுகத் தடி, பாணாத்தடி, வளைதடி, which see severally. விறகுதடியாய்ப்போனான். He is greatly emaciated; (lit.) as fire-wood. [prov.] குயவனுக்குப் பலநாள்வேலை தடியடிக்காரனுக்குச்சற் றுநேரவேலை. Many day's work for the potter, but a few moment's for the breaker. தடிக்கம்பு, s. [loc. தடிக்கொம்பு.] A walking cane, or staff. தடிக்கம்புச்சாப்பாடு, v. noun. Flogging. See under சாப்பாடு. தடித்தனம், s. Rashness, passionateness, rudeness. தடிப்பயல், s. A stubborn person, a block-head. 2. A corpulent person. தடியடிக்காரன், s. A violent person, who acts inconsiderately. தடிமாடன், s. An impudent fellow; [ex மாடன், a demon.] தடியனாபிள்ளை--தடியாண்பிள்ளை, s. An impudent, or corpulent person. தடிபோட, inf. To measure by the long stick in the கிட்டிப்புள்ளு game. தடிமூக்குள்ளான், A kind of snipe. See உள்ளான். தடியன்--தடிமிண்டன், s. A stout, corpulent person, பருத்தவன். 2. A strong athletic man, ஆண்மையுடையவன். 3. An obstinate person, முருடன். குண்டாந்தடி, s. A baton. 6)
