iṭu (p. 45) கிறேன், இட்டேன், வேன், இட, v. a. To set, put on as ornaments, தரிக்க. 2. To put in, deposit, keep, வைக்க. 3. To give, bestow, grant, devote, appropriate, ஈய. 4. To throw, case, poke out, poke or thrust into, எறிய. 5. To designate, appropriate, assign, allot, destine, dictate, விதிக்க. 6. To pour, shower, சொரிய.--As an expletive, it is joined to the gerunds of other verbs in which, it sometimes gives additional force or emphasis to the action expressed, or serves as a kind of finish, வினையெச்சத்தோடுசேர்ந்தோர்பகுதிநீர்மைத்தா ய்வருவது.--The gerund இட்டு is sometimes used to express cause, instrumentality, &c.--as, அவனையிட்டிந்தப்பழிவந்தது, this disgrace happened through him. மரத்தினிற்பறவைக்கிடுகலேபோலப்பாதகமனைத்துந் தொலைத்திடும். It will drive away every evil, as a stone thrown at birds in a tree puts them to flight. இடுகடை, s. A door or gate where much liberality is exercised, கொடுப்போனில்வாயில். (p.) இடுகறல், s. Fuel, விறகு. (நிக ண்டு.) (p.) இடுகாடு, s. A burying place, பிரே தம்புதைக்குமிடம். 2. A place for burning the dead, சுடுகாடு. இடுகுறி--இடுகுறிப்பெயர், s. Arbitrary names of things, primitive terms. இடுகுறிச்சிறப்புப்பெயர், s. [in grammar.] A specific term or primitive nouns not common to all--as தெ ங்கு, a cocoanut tree. இடுகுறிப்பொதுப்பெயர், s. [in grammar.] A generic term, or primitive common noun--as மரம், tree or trees. இடுதங்கம், s. Refined gold, gold of the best quality, புடமிடுதங்கம். 2. Gold inlaid, set, mounted, &c., கல்நகையிலுள் ளிடுதங்கம். இடுதண்டம், s. A penalty, விதிக் கப்பட்ட ஆக்கினை. 2. A penalty, fine, mulct, அநியாயதண்டம். இடுதிரை, s. A curtain, திரைச் சீலை. இடுமருந்து, s. A philter, வசமாக்க விடுமருந்து. இட்டறுதி, s. A fixed time or limit, நியமித்தவெல்லை. 2. A critical time, இரண்டுக்குற்றகாலம் 3. Destitution, extreme want, வறுமை. இட்டுக்கட்டிக்கொள்ள, inf. uḷ (p. 67) --உள்ளு, உள்ளுகிறேன், உள் ளினேன், உள்ளுவேன், உள்ள, v. a. To think, think of, consider, bear in mind, to remember, நினைக்க--as one of the ten அவத் தை. 2. To revolve, intend, எண்ண. (p.) கயந்தன்னைவைததையுள்ளிவிடும். The mean person will think of the reproach cast on him. (குறள்.) உள்ளல், v. noun. Thinking. உள்ளார், s. Foes, enemies, பகை ஞர். (p.) உள்ளிய, rel. part. Esteemed. உள்ளியதெள்ளியராயினுமூழ்வினைபையநுழைந்துவி டும். Though he be a man held in esteem, his destiny will quietly insinuate itself into his circumstances. (ஔவைகுறள்.) 54)

ūkku (p. 69) கிறேன், ஊக்கினேன், வே ன், ஊக்க, v. a. To commence with spirit, முயல. 2. To execute with energy, முயன்று செய்ய. 3. To excite to action, rouse, to direct, எழுப்ப. 4. v. n. To ascend, ஏற. (p.) நுனிக்கொம்பரேறினாரஃதிறந்தூக்கினுயிர்க்கிறுதியாகி விடும். If one who has already ascended to the extremity of a bough, goes beyond, his life will be at an end. (குறள்.) அறவினையையூக்கி. Entering with energy on the practice of virtue. (நாலடி.) உடைத்தம்வலியறியாரூக்கத்தினூக்கி. With spirit commencing (war), ignorant of their own strength-- (குறள்.) நல்லாற்றினூக்கின். ūṭu (p. 69) s. [as உள்.] The inside, that which is intermediate, between, நடு. (சத. 18.) 2. [vul.] Wool, thread woven across the warp, தார்நூல்.--Note. Commonly ஊடு as an affix governs the dative--as அவர்களுக்கூடேவந்தான், he came between them. இந்தஅலுவல்களுக்கூடேயிதையுமெப்படிச்செய்வே ன். How can I possibly do this in the midst of so much business? கனவூடும். Even in a dream-- (பார.) ஊடறுக்க, inf. To cut through, separate and pass through, cleave, to sunder--as an arrow; to force one's way through people, jungle, beasts, &c., உள்ளறுக்க. 2. To determine between two parties, to decide differences, settle amicably, வழக்குத்தீர்க்க. ஊடாட, inf. To go about--as a domestic in a house, அகத்திலுலாவித்திரிய. 2. To frequent, பலகாற்பயில. 3. To deal, or be familiar with, பழக. 4. To be conversant with a subject--as of science, art, &c., கல்விபயில. பாரைக்கூடாடாதபாறைபசுமரத்தின்வேருக்கூடாடி விடும். A rock that cannot be moved by a crow-bar gives way to the roots of a tree. முட்டரோடாடியநட்புக்கருங்காலிக்கட்டையூடா டியகால். Friendship with the base is like a hard block thrown against the knee. மயிரூடாடாநட்புச்சிறிதுபொருளுடாடக்கெடும்... Friendship so close as not to admit of even a hair-like interruption may be destroyed by pecuniary dealings. ஊடாடிப்பார்க்க, inf. To search, examine, &c., to look into, ஆராய்ந்துபார்க்க. கல்வியிலூடாடிப்பார். Look into learning, learn. ஊடாட்டம், v. noun. Familiarity, intercourse, intimacy, பழகுகை. ஊடாட்டம்பண்ண, inf. To be familiar, have intercourse, with, பயிற்சி பண்ண. ஊடுசெல்ல, inf. To pass through a crowd, a jungle, &c. ஊடுதாக்க, inf. To oppose with firmness, பின்னிடாமலெதிர்நிற்க. 2. To compare two things with each other with regard to their strength. ஒன்றோடொன்றூடுதாக்க, inf. To oppose each other. ஊடுபற்ற, inf. To burn within a lamp--as wick when the oil is out, உள்ளேபற்றியெரிய. ஊடுபோக்க, inf. To run through, cause to pass through, உருவச்செய்ய. 2. To decide between parties, settle amicably, வழக்குத்தீர்க்க. ஊடுருவ, inf. To penetrate--as rays, air, a weapon; to transpierce, உள் ளேயுருவ. 2. v. n. To insinuate itself into, உட்செல்ல. ஊடுருவத்தைக்க, inf. To transpierce, to stitch through. ஊடூடே, adv. Here and there, irregularly interspersed, frequently, often, every now and then. 44)

auviym (p. 84) s. Envy, பொறாமை. (p.) ஔவியநெஞ்சத்தானாக்கமுஞ்செவ்வியான்கேடுநினை க்கப்படும். The prosperity of the envious and adversity of the ingenuous will be pondered by the wise as things mysterious. ஔவியம்பேசேல். Don't speak enviously. (ஔவை.) ஔவிக்க, inf. To be envious, பொறாமையடைய. (p.) ஔவித்தழுக்காறுடையானைச்செய்யவடெளவை யைக்காட்டிவிடும். Luckshmi envying (the prosperity) of the envious man will introduce her sister to him and take her own departure. 144)

kṭiñai (p. 87) s. A religious mendicant's vessel, இரப்போர்கலம். (p.) தவசிகடிஞைபோற்பையநிறைத்துவிடும். As the alms-dish of a mendicant is gradually filled, so charitable acts will procure a rich reward. (நாலடி.) 54)

kym (p. 96) s. Decay, wasting away, தேய வு. 2. Loss, waste, destruction, ruin, கேடு. 3. Inferiority, baseness, selfishness, கீழ்மை. 4. Greatness, superiority, பெருமை. 5. Eminence, மேன்மை. 6. Youthfulness, இளமை. 7. Water, நீர். 8. Depth, lowness, ஆழம். 9. A ditch, அகழி. (p.) 1. A tank, குளம். கயத்திலேபோய்விட்டது. It is gone to the bottom, it is sunk. கயந்தன்னைவைததையுள்ளிவிடும். A person of little mind will always be thinking of the insult offered him. (நாலடி.) கயமானநீர்மடு. A deep pool of water. (நீதிநெறி.) கயத்தி, s. A wretched woman, a cruel woman, கெட்டவன். கயவர், s. kiṟukku (p. 112) கிறேன், கிறுக்கினேன், வேன், கிறு க்க, v. a. To efface, blot out, obliterate, cancel, கிறுக்கித்தள்ள. 2. To scribble, to write with an iron pen, to grave, எழுத. இதையெழுதினதில்லை கிறுக்கினான். He has not written this well, he has scribbled. ஒருதுண்டுகிறுக்கியனுப்பிவிடும். Drop a line to him; scribble a line to him. கிறுக்கு, v. noun. Blotting, cancelling, obliteration, கிறுக்கித்தள்ளுகை. 2. A letter, character, or writing, எழுத்து. கிறுக்காயிருக்க, inf. To be scribbled over. கிறுக்கில்லாதவெழுத்து. A fair hand without any erasures. கிறுக்கெழுத்து. Letters or writing crossed out; letters or writing in which alterations are made. 29)

kuṟṭṭai (p. 132) s. Snoring, snorting, நித் திரையில்விடுமொலிமூச்சு. 2. A creeper bearing a red fruit; a gourd, காக்கணங்்கொவ்வை, Trichosanthes palmata. (Rox.) (Ains v. 2. p. 85.) கார்க்குறட்டைபீனிசக்குறட்டை, பெ ருங்குறட்டை, சிறுகுறட்டை, as different species of the குறட்டை creeper, see these. குறட்டையிழுக்க--குறட்டைவாங்க-குறட்டைவிட, inf. To snore. 8)

tiṉ (p. 241) கிறேன், றேன் பேன், ன, v. a. To eat, to feed, to take a meal, உண்ண. 2. [in poetry.] To eat light food, pastries and relishes, &c., சிற்றுண்டிபுசிக்க. 3. To chew, to masticate, மெல்ல. 4. To devour--said of an animal, பட்சிக்க. 5. To eat away, consume, corrode--as white ants, ironmould, rust, &c., அரிக்க. (c.) தின்றதெல்லாஞ்சமித்துப்போயிற்று. What he has eaten is digested; i. e. he ahs forgotten the benefits I have done him. தின்றுகொழுத்துப்போனான். By eating (of my food) he is become fat and saucy. (In abuse.) செல்லுதின்றுவிடும். The white ants will eat away. தின்னாவீட்டில்தின்னி. One who eats with low families. [prov.] மண்தின்றுவிடும். The earth will corrode it. இந்தஎருதுஅந்தஎருதைத்தின்றுவிடும். This ox will surpass that. நேற்றுத்தின்றதீன்அல்லவோ. Is not the (work, &c.) for what ate yesterday; i. e. I want food to day. புல்லைத்தின்னும்மாடுஉதவுகிறதுபோலப்புலியைத்தின் னுஞ்சென்னாய்உதவுமோ. Will a wild dog which kills the tiger be as useful as an ox that eats grass; i e. will any one who lives luxuriously labor like one who takes plain food? யானைத்தின்றவிளாங்களிபோலே. Like the woodapple which the elephant had eaten (swallowed); i. e. hollow, the substance being absorbed through the unbroken shell. தின்பண்டம், s. (com. தீன்பண்டம்.) Eatables, including pastry and fruits. தின்பண்டநல்கல், v. noun. One of the thirty-two acts of charity. See அறம். தின்றல்---தின்னல்--தின்னுதல், v. noun. A eating. தின்றி, s. Eatables, தீன். தின்றிப்போத்து, s. (Tel. திிபோது.) A glutton; (lit.) a well-fed bull. தின்றுகழிக்க, inf. To loathe food from satiety. தின்னாச்சாதி, s. Low castes, with whom it is disgraceful to eat. tiri (p. 239) --திரீ, s. A woman, wife. See ஸ்திரீ. திரிகடகசங்கலிதம், s. The summation of சங்கலிதம், சங்கலிதசங்கலிதம், and வர்க்க சங்கலிதம். திரிகடுகம்--திரிகடுகு, s. The three special stimulants. (See கடுகம்.) 2. A poem in which each verse has three things for its theme, முச்சொல்லலங்காரம்-as ஆறுநேராகிவூரும் அரசனோடேறுமாறானகுடியும் புருஷனோடுதாறுமாறானமனைவியும்இம்மூன்றும்நீறுநீறா கிவிடும், a town near a river, subjects in rebellion against their king, a wife disobedient to her husband; these three will go to ashes. திரிகண்டகம், s. The three Myrobalan or medicinal fruits, often used in Indian medicines, 1. கடுக்காய், gallnuts, Terminalia chebula; 2. நெல்லிக் காய், Phyllanthus emblica; 3. தான்றிக்காய், Terminalia bellerica. திரிபலையேனாதி, s. An electuary compounded of the three fruits and other ingredients. திரிபழுகம், s. The three delicacies, milk, பால்; clarified butter, நெய்; and honey, தேன். திரிபாகி, s. One of the மிறைக்கவி, a curious poem in which a word of three letters when taken regularity gives one meaning, and when the first, second or third letter is taken away will give in each case a different meaning. திரிபுசம், s. The fourth lunar mansion, உரோகிணி. --There are different kinds of care as எடுப் புத்தேர், a car borne on the shoulders; கட் டுத்தேர், temporary car; இழுப்புத்தேர், சக்க ரத்தேர், a wheeled car; கிண்ணித்தேர், a car ornamented with brass; செய்கைத்தேர், a car for processions; நிலைத்தேர், a fixed car. தேரடி, s. The place where the idolcar is kept, தேர்முட்டி. (c.) தேராள்--தேரோன், s. A chariot-warrior, இரதவீரன். தேரிடக்கியம், s. A flag or benner in a car. See இடக்கியம். தேரிழுக்க, inf. To draw the car at a festival. தேருட்பரப்பு--தேர்ச்சார்பலகை, s. Place in the car for the seat of the idol. தேருருளை--தேருருள்--தேர்க்கால், s. Wheel of a car or chariot. தேருமச்சி, s. A kind of snail with a turbinated shell. See ஊமச்சி. தேரெழுத்தாணி, s. A style shaped at top like a car or tower. See எழுத்தாணி. தேரோட, inf. To run or be drawn, as a car. தேரோடிநிலையிலேநின்றது. The car has run and stopped in its place; i. e. a prosperous course has come to an end. தேரோடும்வீதி, s. The outer road around a temple along which the car is drawn. தேரோட்டம், v. noun. [prov. தேரோட் டு.] The running or drawing of a car, especially at the temple festival. 2. The moving of a chariot. 3. (R.) Defeat of charioteers in war. தேரோட்டுவோர், appel. n. See தேர்க் கொற்றர். தேர்க்கவி, s. A kind of poem so constructed as to be written in the form of a car, இரதபந்தம். தேர்க்காரன், s. Charioteer, சாரதி. தேர்க்குடம், s. Brass knobs in the form of inverted pots, as ornaments to a car. தேர்க்கூம்பு--தேர்மொட்டு, s. Pinnacle of a car. தேர்க்கொடி, s. Pennon or streamer of a car. தேர்க்கொடுங்கை, s. The outside arches of a car, binding it together. (c.) தேர்க்கொற்றர், s. (plu.)
