vittai (p. 394) s. [St. வித்தியா.] Science, learning, sacred or profane, a branch of learning, கல்வி. W. p. 768. VIDYA. 2. Skill, ingenuity, dexterity, சாமர்த்தியம். 3. Arts displaying skill, சித்திரத்தொழில். 4. Magic, jugglery, காரடவித்தை.--It retains its Sans. pronunciation in most of the compounds. வித்தியாசாலை, s. A college. வித்தியாதத்துவம், s. A department of knowledge, one of the தத்துவத்திரயம். According to the Saivas, it includes; 1. காலம், time; 2. நியதி, fate; 3. கலை, science; 4. வித்தை, arts; 5. இராகம், desire; 6. புரு டன் or ஆன்மா, soul; 7. மாயை, matter. வித்தியாதரர், s. [pl.] Demigods of a certain class. See பதினெண்கணம் under கணம். வித்தியாதரிசிகள், s. Inspectors of schools. வித்தியாதானம், s. Charitable instruction of the ignorant, கல்விகற்பிக்கை. வித்தியாதேகம், s. Embodiment of knowledge. வித்தியாபாரகன், s. One who has studied the arts and sciences. வித்தியாப்பியாசம், s. Practice in science, experimental science, கல்விப்ப யிற்சி. (Beschi.) வித்தியாரம்பம், s. Beginning of knowledge. (ராமா.) வித்தியார்த்தி, s. A scholar, a student, கற்போன். வித்தியாலட்சுமி, s. See அஷ்டலட்சுமி. வித்தியாவந்தன், s. A learned man. வித்தியேசுரர்--வித்தீசுரர், s. [pl.] Lords of learning, learned men, poets, வித்தை யாளர். வித்துவசிரோமணி, s. One trancendently eminent for learning. வித்துவாமிசன்--வித்துவான், s. [pl. வித்துவாமிசர்கள்.வித்துவாங்கிசர்கள்.] A bard, a poet, a learned man, புலவன். 2. (St.) A sage, a theologian. வித்துவானுக்கேதுபரதேசம். The learned man belongs to all countries. வித்தைகள், 14. Fourteen branches of sacred science. These are the four Vedas, நாலுவேதம்; the six Vadangas, ஆறங்கம்; the Mimamsa, are theology, மீமாஞ்சை; the Nyaya, or logic, தருக்கம்; the Puranas, புராணம்; the Smritis or law, தருமநூல். வித்தைகற்பிக்க, inf. To teach an art or profession. வித்தைகற்றுக்கொள்ள, inf. To learn an art. வித்தைக்கவி, s. An artificially constructed poem. வித்தைக்காரன், s. A juggler. வித்தையாட, inf.
