īrkku (p. 58) s. The rib of a palmyra, cocoanut or other palm; also a leaflet of the தாழை, ஓலையீர்க்கு. 2. Culmus or straw for picking the teeth, பற்குத்துங்குச்சு. 3. The feathers of an arrow, அம்பினிறகு. ஈர்க்குக்கம்பி, s. A very narrow stripe in the border of a silk or cotton fabric. ஈர்க்குவிளக்குமாறு, s. A whisk or small besom made of the rib of palm leaves. 30)

etukai (p. 73) s. Initial rhyme, commonly occurring in the second letter of every line in the stanza. (See தொடை.) 2. [vul.] (fig.) Agreement, union, consonance, similarity, பொருத்தம். (p.) தலையாகெதுகை, s. In rhyme, similarity of the first class in which all the letters except the initial of the first foot in each line through the stanza are the same--as சொற்போர்புரிவர்நான்மறை யாறங்கமுணர்ந்ததொழுகுலத்தோர், விற்போர்புரிவர் நெடியசிலையிராமனனையவிறல்வேந்தர், பொற்போர் புரிவர் பிறர்பொருளுந்தம்போற் பேணிப்புரிவணிகர், நெற்போர்புரிவரந்நகரில்வேளாண்குலத்து நெறியி னரே. இடையாகெதுகை, s. Consonance of a medial kind in which the second letter only ryhmes--as அகரமுதலவெழுத் தெல்லாமாதி, பகவன்முதற்றேயுலகு. கடையாகெதுகை, s. Consonance of an inferior order including every kind except the two given above. ஆசெதுகை, s. An exception to the general rule of எதுகை; i. e. when the second letter of the first line is ய, ர, ல, or ழ, it may be omitted in the following lines when necessary. வழியெதுகை, s. The agreement of the second and third letters in the first, second, and sometimes the third feet in every line through the stanza. நெடிலெதுகை, s. The rhyming of the long consonants in a poem--as ஆவாவென்றேயஞ்சினராழ்ந்தாரொருசாரார், கூகூ வென்றேகூவிளிகொண்டாரொருசாரார், மாமாவென் றேமாய்ந்தனர்நீந்தாரொருசாரார், ஏகீர்நாகீரென்செய் துமென்றாரொருசாரார். இனவெதுகை, s. The rhyming of the same class of consonants in a poem. It consists of three kinds: 1. வல்லின வெதுகை, the consonance which occurs when the second letter of each line of a stanza is any one of the வல்லினம் consonants, உ-ம். தக்கார்தகவிலரென்பதவரவ ரெச்சத்தாற்காணப்படும். 2. மெல்லினவெதுகை, the consonance which occurs when the second letter of each line of a stanza is any one of the மெல்லினம் consonants, உ-ம். அன்பீனுமார்வமுடைமையதுவீனுநண்பென் னுநாடாச்சிறப்பு. 3. இடையினவெதுகை, the consonance which occurs when the second letter of each line of a stanza is any one of the இடையினம் consonants, உ-ம். எல்லா விளக்கும் விளக்கல்ல சான்றோர்க்குப் பொய்யாவிளக்கேவிளக்கு. 51) *

tāṉi (p. 236) s. That which is in a place, the occupant, inhabitant, தானத்திலுள்ளது; [ex ஸ்தானம்.] 2. What has or contains; used in composition, as இராசதாளி. (Sa. Dhánee.) தானியாகுபெயர், s. [in gram.] A figure of speech in which the name of the occupier, is applied to the place or thing occupied, as விளக்குமுறிந்தது, the lamp is broken, that is, the frame, it being used for the light. 18) *

A kind of camphor, ஆரதிகருப்பூரம். தீபதூபம், s. Lamps and incense-spoken of as presented before an idol, or great person, விளக்கும்நறும்புகையும். தீபதூபங்காட்ட, inf. mngku (p. 338) கிறது, மங்கினது, ம், மங்க, v. n. To grow dim--as a luminous body, ஒளி மழுங்க. 2. To fade, grow pale--as colors; be deprived of lustre, நிறங்குன்ற. 3. To grow dim or dull--as the sight, the appearance of the eyes, a mirror, glass or other transparency; to become obscured, dingy, cloudy, dusky--as twilight, பார்வை குன்ற. 4. To be obscured, as splendor, glory, fame; to fade, as beauty; to decline as prosperity; to be reduced in circumstances, power, or authority, தோற் றங்குறைய. 5. Extinguishing a lamp by blowing with the mouth; considered a sin. விளக்கொளி, s. The flame of a lamp and the brilliancy around it. 119)

viḷkku (p. 398) கிறேன், விளக்கினேன், வேன், விளக்க, v. a. To polish, or brighten, துலக்க. 2. To render conspicuous, to declare, to illustrate, விளங்கச்செய்ய. 3. (Beschi.) To solder, பொடிவைக்க. 4.
