iṉṟi (p. 57) . Gerund of the symbolic verb இல், ஓர்குறிப்புவினையெச்சம். ஒப்பின்றியநெஞ்சமே. O! matchless mind. தாமதமின்றி. Without delay, expeditiously. தவறின்றிநடக்கிறதரிது. It is difficult to maintain a faultless conduct. இன்றியமையாமை, neg. v. noun. Indispensableness, absoluteness, necessity, a sine-qua-non, இல்லாமல்முடியாமை. 58)

iruḷ (p. 51) s. Darkness, obscurity, அந் தகாரம். 2. A dark color, black, blackness, கறுப்பு. 3. (p.) Ignorance, mental delusion, stupor, உன்மத்தம். 4. An elephant, யானை. 5. Hell, நரகம். ஓவென்ற இருளாயிருக்கின்றது. There is total, absolute darkness. இந்தவீடிருளடைந்துகிடக்கிறது. This house is become dark; i. e. ruined. இருட்படலம், s. Wide-spread darkness. இருட்பரப்பு, s. il (p. 55) . Not, non-existence, death, மரணம். (p.) 2. The root of one of the negative symbolic verbs, (see அல்) expressive of total or exclusive negation of the thing or quality--the opposite of உள். Sometimes in poetry it stands as a contraction of இல்லை. இற்றிறம்பிலர். They fail not in the performance of domestic duties; [ex இல், house; திறம்பு, failure; இலர், who are not.] இணையில்நெஞ்சமே. O! incomparable mind; O! mind debased beyond comparison. இலி, s. A person, or thing possessed of nothing. பிறப்பிலி, s. He who is without birth--the Supreme Being, கடவுள். 2. Siva, சிவன். (p.) இறையிலி, s. He who is exempt from taxes; [ex இறை, tribute; இல், not; இ, affix.] இந்தநிலமிறையிலி. This field is not taxed. இல்பொருள், s. [in rhetoric.] Comparison with a thing that does not exist, உவமையணியி லொன்று--as எல்லாக்கமலத்தொழிலுந்திரண்டொ ன்றின் வில்லேர்புருவத்துவேனெடுங்கணல்லாண் முகம்போலும், the beauty of the face of the damsel whose eyes resemble a lance, and brow, a bow, is equal to the aggregate beauty of all lotuses. இல்லாதபொய், s. Downright lie, முழுப்பொய். இல்லாதவன், neg. appel. noun. One utterly destitute. இல்லாததும்பொல்லாதுஞ்சொல்ல, inf. To tell lies and speak evil of one. இல்லாமல், ver. part. Without. இல்லாமற்போனால், If not, otherwise. இல்லாமலிருக்க, inf. To be without, be wanting, be absent. இல்லாமை, neg. v. noun. Absence, destitution, privation, இன்மை. 2. Poverty, want, தரித்திரம். இல்லார்--இல்லோர், s. The poor, the destitute, those who are in want, தரித்திரர். இல்லெனல், v. noun. Death, extinction, சாதல். 2. Denying, இல்லையென் றசொல்லல். இல்லை, s. Negation, இன்மை. 2. A defective verb implying absolute negation, added to nouns, pronouns, verbs or participles. 3. Death, extinction of life, சாதல். இல்லையாகியவென்மகற்காண்பன். I shall see my deceased son. இல்லையாகில்--இல்லையென்கில்--இல்லையெ ன்றால். If not, or else, otherwise. வருகிறையோ இல்லையோ? Will you come or not? ஒருக்காலுமில்லை. Never. இதுவுமில்லை--அதுவுமில்லை--இரண்டுமில்லை. Neither this nor that, neither of the two. ஒற்றுமில்லை. Nothing. துப்புறவில்லை--பரிச்சேதமில்லை. Not at all. அளவில்லை. Beyond measure, immeasurable. இன்னதென்றில்லை. It is not described what it is, no matter what. இவ்வளவென்றில்லை. It is unascertained, not estimated, not measured. இல்வழக்கு, s. Unjust lawsuit, பொய்வழக்கு. எண்ணில்காலம், s. Incalculable time. அருளிலார், s. Those devoid of benevolence. இன்றி, v. part. from the root இல். Without. தாமதமின்றி. Without delay. ஒருபிரயாசமுமின்றி. I know not what. பாடல்பெறானேபலர்மெச்சவாழானே--நாடறியநன் மணங்ககணாட்டானே, பேடி--இவன்வாழும்வாழ்க்கை யிருங்கடல்சூழபாரிற்--கவிழ்ந்தென்னமல்காந்தென்கா ண். Of what utility in this sea-girt land is an hermaphrodite, whom no panegyrist has ever celebrated, and who has not obtained the praises of the multitude, nor sought fame by charitably aiding the indigent to marry? ஏ ஏகத்துக்குமூந்நூறு. In some connexions and with appropriate emphasis, it means sameness, singularity, peculiarity, specialness, celebrity, &c. ஒருகூடுமுடைந்தவனொன்பதுகூடுமுடைவான். . . . . To be unwavering, be settled in mind or purpose, to be decided, ஒன்றுபட. ஒற்றித்தமனம், s. A single mind, sincerity. 2. Freedom from doubt, decision of mind. ஒற்றித்தவெண், s. Odd numbers, ஒற்றைப்பட்டவெண். ஒற்றைக்கண்ணன், s. Venus, சுக் கிரன். 2. kuvera, குபேரன். (p.) ஒற்றைக்குடை, s. An unique umbrella--an emblem of independent sovereignty. ஒற்றைக்குடையினாளுதல், v. noun. Exercising absolute sovereignty. ஒற்றைக்கொம்பன், s. Ganesa, the single-tusked--as an elephant, the other tusk having been broken off, வினாயகன். ஒற்றைச்சார், s. [prov.] A house without an area in the centre. ஒற்றைத்தாலி, s. A single wedding ornament without the accompaniments which are sometimes added on a future day. See சங்குந்தாலியும். ஒற்றைத்தாழ்ப்பூட்டு, s. A lock with a single bolt or a single lock. ஒற்றைத்துலா, s. A well-lever formed of one solid timber, ஒற்றையேற்றம். See மூட்டுத்துலா or நெம்புத்துலா. ஒற்றைநூல், s. A three-twined sacred thread--as worn by a bachelor. ஒற்றைநூற்புடவை, s. Single threaded cloth, தனியிழை. ஒற்றைப்படவெண்ணுதல், v. noun. Counting by odd numbers. 2. Counting things one by one. ஒற்றைப்பட்டு, s. One of several strings of a necklace, folds, strands. ஒற்றைப்பட்டுமணி, s. A single necklace. ஒற்றைப்பார்ப்பான், s. A single brahman, whose sight is deemed inauspicious whether as the first object in the morning, or at any time on leaving home for some special purpose. ஒற்றைப்புரிக்கயிறு, s. A rope formed of a single strand, ஒருபுரிக்கயிறு. ஒற்றையாழித்தேர், s. The chariot of the sun being single-wheeled, சூரியனு டையதேர். ஒற்றையாழித்தேரோன், s. The sun --he whose chariot has but one wheel, சூரியன். (p.) ஒற்றையாள், s. A single person-as a traveller, an inhabitant or as one having no relations, ஒருஆள். ஒற்றையிதழ்ப்பூ, s. A monopetalous flower, ஓரிதழ்ப்பூ. ஒற்றையிரட்டைபிடித்தல், v. noun. Playing at odd and even. ஒற்றையோலைப்பாய், s. Mats braided with single olas. ஒற்றையோலைப்பெட்டி, s. kẕuttu (p. 98) s. The neck of a person, brute, thing, &c., கண்டம். கழுத்தடி, s. The lower part of the nape of the neck, தோண்மேல். கழுத்தறுக்க, inf. To cut the throat, to server the wind-pipe. முன்விட்டுப்பின்னின்றுகழுத்தறுக்கலாமோ...... Would you bid one take precedence and then cut his throat? ஒருவன்கழுத்திலேகட்டிவிட. To devolve unpleasant consequences on another. 2. To attribute a crime or blame to a person. 3. To impose on another unsaleable goods, or a woman ineligible for marriage. கழுத்திடுகயிறு, s. Halter for a beast. கழுத்திருத்த, inf. To have the neck pressed down with a heavy load. (c.) கழுத்திலேகயிறுபோட, inf. To threaten self-immolation for the purpose of recovering debts, &c. 2. To be very treacherous, insidious, perfidious. (c.). கழுத்துக்குட்டை, s. A neckcloth, a cravat. (c.) கழுத்துக்கொடுக்க, inf. To lay down the neck for another on the block, to subject one's self to inconvenience or danger. 2. To expose one's life by a commission of crime. 3. To submit to the yoke as bullocks. கழுத்துச்சந்து, s. The joint of the neck. கழுத்துச்சுளுக்கு, s. Straining of the ligaments of the neck by violent turning of the head. கழுத்துத்திருக, inf. To wring off the head of a fowl, &c. 2. To throttle, twist the head. கழுத்துநெடியபானை, s. A longnecked pot. கழுத்துப்பட்டிகை, s. A collar, a cape. கழுத்துப்பட்டை, s. The collar of a cloak. கழுத்துப்பருத்திருக்க, inf. To have a thick neck. கழுத்துப்பொருத்தம், s. One of the ten பொருத்தம் for marriage, மணப்பொருத்தம் பத்திலோன்று. (c.) கழுத்துமுறிக்க--கழுத்தைமுறிக்க, inf. To break the neck--spoken of the power, &c., of demons. வேண்டாமென்றுகழுத்தைமுறிக்கிறான். He absolutely refuses, it is very repugnant to his feelings, &c. கழுத்துவெட்டி, s. A cut-throat, a betrayer, an assassin. (c.) கழுத்தூட்டி, s. The throat. (p.) கழுத்தேறுதண்டம், s. Aggravated or very heavy punishment. கழுத்தைநெரிக்க, inf. To throttle one. கட்டுக்கழுத்தி, s. A married woman. 81)

kiruttiyam (p. 111) s. Act, actions, performances, operation, தொழில். 2. Moral actions good or bad, involving future retributions, கன்மக்கிரியை. 3. A course of conduct, நடக்கை. 4. Work, business, employment, லௌகிகவேலை. 5. Religious rules, prescribed duties, கடமை. 6. Rites, ceremonies, &c., religious acts or practice, சடங்கு. 7. The operations of the deity--popularity in the characters of creator, preserver and destroyer; but in the mystic parts of the Agama system, the works of obscuring and enlightening the soul are superadded. Wils. p. 243. KRUTYA. தன்கிருத்தியந்தான்பார்க்கவேண்டும். Each one must perform his appropriate duties, personal, social, relative, civil, &c. கிருத்தியகர்த்தா, s. An operating deity, or a god who performs either of the five great operations in the universe. கிருத்தியகர்த்தாக்கள், s. (pl.) Agents who carry on operations in the universe; also, those of the விஞ்ஞானகலர் and பிர ளயாகலர் class of souls that have advanced so as to be cleansed from மலம், and permitted to be operative. கிருத்தியப்பிழை, s. Misdeeds, misbehaviour. 2. Failure or transgression in the performance of prescribed rites, ceremonies or other duties. கிருத்தியமில்லாதவன், s. One who does not practise the rites of the religion. ஒருகிருத்தியமுமில்லாதவன். One unemployed. கிருத்தியமுடிக்க, inf. To perform prescribed duties--as religious rites, ceremonies, &c. கிருத்தியம்பண்ண--கிருத்தியம்நடத்த inf. To perform the works of creation, &c..--as a deity, ஐந்தொழில்செய்ய. The direct object of this work is fancied to be; 1. To cleanse the soul from its moral defilements. 2. To cause it to experience the fruit of former actions. 3. To give it a temporary rest. 4. To produce an equilibrium between the good and evil actions of the soul. 5. To emancipate it from the பாசம் entanglements. (சிவ. சி.) 2. To perform works, rites, &c., சடங்குசெய்ய. 3. To perform the duties of one's calling, தொழில்செய்ய. 4. To perform the funeral rites for a deceased ancestor, உத்தரகிரியைசெய்ய. பஞ்சகிருத்தியம், s. The five operations of deity under various names, forms and modifications, viz.: 1st. சிருட்டி or படை த்தல், the work of creating or transforming matter, evolving it from the primitive Maya, producing words, furnishing the soul with its appropriate body, according to its actions in a previous birth, &c. In the popular system, this office is ascribed to Brahma. 2d.திதி or காத்தல், the work of preserving, usually ascribed to Vishnu. 3d. சங்காரம் or அழித்தல், the work of destroying, or of reducing the universe to the primitive Maya, through numerous involutions, --as earth into water, water into fire, &c. This office is ascribed to உருத்தி ரன், who by his worshippers is identified with Siva whom they consider supreme. 4th. திரோபவம் or மறைத்தல், the work of obscuration, or the veiling of the soul in moral darkness, and beclouding the understanding, so that the divine being cannot be perceived, while the mind attracted and illuded by visible and sensual objects, is excited to the performance of new actions, by which absolute liberation from பாசம் entanglements is prevented, and connection with Maya and its consequent transmigrations--except where the sanchita (சஞ்சிதம்) of former births is exhausted --is indefinitely prolonged. This is ascribed to மயேச்சுரன். 5th. அனுக்கிரகம் or அருளல், this is a work of benevolence as exerted for the benefit of the soul in furnishing it with appropriate bodies by which to expiate the guilt of former actions, though obscuring it with திரோ பவம், while it is thus working itself clear, at length withdrawing the veil and showing it that all visible and sensual objects are illusory and deceptive; also annihilating the passions and exciting disgust toward the objects of sense, and utter indifference to all mundane affairs, and thus causing entire cessation from physical and moral actions, and maturing it for final emancipation, and union with the Supreme. It is ascribed to சதாசிவம். சமுசாரகிருத்தியம், s. Domestic affairs, household business. 10) *

kiẕmai (p. 111) s. Propriety, right, the appertaining of duties to individuals. உரிமை. 2. Relation, connexion, alliance, சம்பந்தம். 3. Duty, obligation, கடமை. 4. Quality, property, attribute, குணம். 5. Excellence, eminence, dignity, மாட்சிமை. 6. [in gram.] Possession, ownership, relation of one thing to another, as denoted by the possessive case or the local ablative. The relation is of two kinds; தற்கிழமை, that between a whole and its parts or attributes--as in தலைமயிர் and ஆட்டுக்கால்; and பிறிதின்கிழமை, that between different things--as in மலை யாடு, அவன்வீடு. 7. A day of the week, வாரத் திலொருநாள். 8. A week, வாரம். கிழமைபடவாழ். Live so as to be useful. கிழத்தி, s. A mistress, a lady, தலைவி. 2. A lady in an agricultural district, மரு தநிலத்தலைவி. 3. A woman who bolongs to or is peculiarly adapted to--as in காமக் கிழத்தி, சொல்லின்கிழத்தி, பாலைக்கிழத்தி, மனைக்கி ழத்தி. கிழமைக்குக்கிழமை. From week to week, weekly. கிழமைதோறும். Weekly, every week. கிழமைச்சூனியம், s. [in astrol.] An inauspicious, unpropitious day when the moon is in a nacshatra, unfavorable to that day of the week. கிழமைபிறந்தநாள், s. [in astrol.] The lunar day peculiarly related to a given day of the week; lit. the lunar day on which the day of the week is born. கிழமைவட்டம், s. A week. கிழவர், s. (pl. of கிழவன்.) Proprietors, relations, &c., உரியோர். See கிழவன் under கிழம், infra. ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை, s. Sunday. பெருங்கிழமை, s. Entire or sole right, absolute title, prerogative, முழுவுரிமை. 2. Being connected or related in all possible ways, close friendship, intimacy or familiarity, மிகுநேயம். 39)

kēvalam (p. 139) s. Singleness; what is simple or alone, தனிமை. 2. Uniqueness, entireness, the only one of its kind, exclusiveness, ஒருங்கு. 3. Freedom, liberation from births, supreme bliss, மோக்கம். Wils. p. 248. KEVALA. 4. Destitution, extreme indigence, இன்மை. 5. Emaciation, மெலிவு. 6. Danger, criticalness, crisis, மோசம், ஆக்கி ரமம். 7. Unconsiousness, either absolute or transient; one of the three degrees of consciousness of the soul, the other two being சகலம் and சத்தம். (See காரணகேவலம், and காரியகேவலம்--Note. The five காரியகே வலம்.) states (momentary, transient unconsciousness of the living soul) are, 1. கே வலசாக்கிரம். 2. கேவலசொப்பனம். 3. கேவல கழுத்தி. 4. கேவலதுரியம். 5. கேவலதுரியதீதம். கேவலந்தீர்வலியபகை. Absolute, deep-rooted hostility. (பார.) கேவலஞ்சாப்பாட்டுக்கில்லை. There is no food at all. (c.) கேவலமாய்க்கிடக்கிறான். He is dangerously ill. (c.) கேவலசினேகிதம், s. Tender love. கேவலமானசரீரம், s. A feeble or emaciated body. கேவலப்படுத்த, inf. To detract, derogate, disparage. கேவலஸ்தன், s. A poor, indigent person. 2. An emaciated person; one prostrated in health. கேவலாவத்தை, s. One of the three states of the soul--as கேவலம். 7. கேவலான்னுவயானுமானம், s. [in logic.] An argument in which the affirmative is demonstrated both the syllogistically and inductively. (சிவஞானபோ.) கேவலவெதிரேகாணுமானம், s. [in logic.] An argument in which the negative is proved by both the syllogistic and inductive processes. (சிவஞானபோ.) 61)
