ācai (p. 37) s. Desire, attachment, strong inclination, விருப்பம். 2. Avarice, lust, cupidity, concupiscence, இச்சை. (c.) 3. (p.) A quarter, region, any of the eight points of the compass, திசை. Wils. p. 124. ASHA. 4. Gold, treasure, பொன்.--Note. The desires of the senses are supposed to be all comprised in மண், பெண் and பொன்--as மண்ணாசை, the desire of land or dominion. 2. பெண்ணாசை, lust or sexual desires. 3. பொன்னாசை, desire of wealth, avarice. ஆசைகாட்ட, inf. To present a bait, attraction, to excite desire, allure. ஆசைகொள்ள--ஆசைப்பட, inf. To desire, yield to the first impressions of love, desire sexually. ஆசைபுகட்ட--ஆசைபூட்ட, inf. To engross the affections, captivate, ensnare, ஆசையிற்சிக்கச்செய்ய. ஆசைப்பெருக்கம், s. Cupidity, lust, strong desire, அவா. ஆசைப்பேச்சு, 3. Flattery, தித்திக் கப்பேசும்பேச்சு. 2. Persuasive speech, வச மாக்கும்பேச்சு. ஆசைமருந்திட, inf. To administer a love potion, give a philter, தன்வசமாக்க மருந்திட. ஆசையறுக்க, inf. To extinguish the desires or passions--one of the four good qualities, விருப்பொழிக்க. ஆசைவைக்க, inf. To desire, long for, place the affections on an object. 11)

irañcitam (p. 48) s. Pleasantness, affection, a being excited to love, பிரியம். Wils. p. 694. RANJITA. இரஞ்சிதபூஷணி, s. A woman who wears good colored or attractive ornaments. It sometimes occurs as a proper name. இரஞ்சிதவஞ்சி, s. A pleasing woman, a charming or fascinating woman. மனோரஞ்சிதமானது, s. That which is delightful to the mind. 48) *

iẕu (p. 55) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To draw, pull, haul, drag, tug, drag to justice, to drag along the ground, ஈர்க்க. 2. To attract--as a magnet, ஊசி முதலியவீர்க்க. 3. To attract--as a snare, to entice, allure, inveigle, seduce, draw over to one's interests, வசமாக்க. 4. To strain, stretch, lengthen or attenuate by pulling, to draw out, நெடுகச்செய்ய. 5. To drag one into an affair, to cite, force one to court, &c., to drag one's name, &c. in support of an argument or practice, வலிகக. 6. To upbraid, drag out one's faults to view, to cast reproaches, insults, &c., புறத்திலிழு க்க. 7. To draw into, swallow up, engulph --as a stream, a whirl-pool, a whirl-wind, சுழித்துவாங்க. 7. To absorb--as a sponge, to absorb humors from the body, to draw-as a medicine or plaster, உறிஞ்ச. 8. To draw out the voice, lengthen the sound properly in singing, to draw in speaking, reading, &c., நீட்டிப்பேச. 9. To strain muscularly, distort the features or limbs in spasms, &c., to have the cramp, to be convulsed; in this sense, it is often used impersonally, வலியிழுக்க. 1. v. n. To linger, to be protracted, தாமதிக்க. இழுத்துப்பாடு. Sing, dwelling on the notes. தாய்வருமளவும்பேச்சிழுத்தாள். She protracted, continued the conversation, till her mother came. அந்தவழக்குவெகுபணமிழுத்துப்போட்டது. That law-suit has swallowed up a great deal of money. காரியமிழுத்துக்கொண்டுவருகின்றது. The affair is protracted, the business is delayed, being involved in various intricacies. இப்படியிழுத்துக்கொண்டுநின்றாலொன்றுந்தீராது. If you protract the matter so carelessly, you cannot expect a happy result. வழக்கிலேயிழுத்துவிட்டார்கள். They have dragged the matter into court. ஊர்க்காரியங்களையிழுக்க To make a long story, unnecessarily talking of other people's affairs. உன்காரியத்திலென்னையிழாதே. Do not draw me into your affairs, as a witness, party, &c. காரியத்திலிழுத்துக்கொண்டுநிற்கிறார்கள். They pull against or away from each other-as two parties, &c., they dissent, are unsettled (fig.), from the idea of two beasts tied together. இழுத்துக்கொண்டுவர, inf. To put off from day to day. என்கடனைத்தீர்க்காமலிழுத்துக்கொண்டுவருகிறான். He delays to pay the debt he owes me. இழுத்துப்பேச, inf. To speak drawlingly. இழுத்துவலிக்க, inf. To draw in a rope, or cord--as attached to a net, paper-kite, &c. இழுத்துவிட, inf. To put off, to protract, to delay, continue putting off and never fulfilling. 2. To bring into court, indict, prosecute, expose to the public. மடியைப்பற்றியிழுக்க, inf. To seize one's lap and pull him. காலிழுத்துநடக்க, inf. To trail the leg in walking--as a lame man. இழுபறி, s. A scuffle, a struggle, strife, squabble, வாது. இழுப்பு, v. noun. Drawing, pulling, draught, a pull, a tug, a twitch, இழுக் கை. 2. Attracting, attraction, allurement, inviting, engaging. 3. Distortion of the limbs or features by convulsions, cramp, &c. 4. Absorption. 5. Draught or force of a current, wind, &c. 6. Procrastination, tardiness, protraction, suspense, uncertainty. The meanings of the verb generally are applicable also to the verbal noun. அதிலே முன்னிழுப்புப்பின்னிழுப்பில்லை. In that matter, there can be no dispute one way or the other. இழுப்பறை, s. A box in a case, a drawer. இழுப்பாட்டம், s. Tardiness, protraction, procrastination. இழுப்பாட்டியம், s. [prov.] Procrastination, protraction, tardiness, delay--used instead of இழுப்பாட்டம். இழுப்பாணி, s. [prov.] A delayer, postponer, lingerer. 2. A moveable peg that fastens the yoke to the beam of the plough. இழுப்புண்ண, inf. To be drawn unwillingly--as some persons when they are compelled to attend court; to be forced or dragged into an affair. 2. To be allured, seduced, decoyed; to be diverted from the business in hand, be tempted, be led away by lust, be ensnared, சிக்கிக்கொள்ள. இழுப்புப்பறிப்புப்பட, inf. [vul.] To scuffle, struggle, contend. 2. To pull one another--as persons intoxicated, or in play. இழுவல், v. noun. [prov.] The act of drawing. 2. Putting off, lingering, delaying, postponing. 3. One who neglects his own affairs and busies himself with those of others. அவனொரு இழுவல். He is a busy-body, drawn into every one's business. இழுவை, v. noun. A being drawn, draught, இழுப்பு. 2. Any thing drawn-as a draught of thorns, timbers, fishes, &c., இழுக்கப்பட்டவை. 3. A long rope for draught, இழுக்கும்வடம். 4. The mark or point made on the ground by a thing drawn, சுவடு. இழுவைகண்டாலடிப்பார்க்கிறதேன்? When the track in which the thing was dragged is plain, why look for footsteps? 37)

īr (p. 58) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To pull, draw, attract--as the magnet; to drag, carry away--as a current, to draw into, இழுக்க. 2. To saw, அறுக்க. 3. To split, பிளக்க. 4. To peel, flay, உரிக்க. (p.) நார்த்தொடுத்தீர்க்கிலென். What though (a corpse) be dragged along with a leather thong. (நாலடி.) யானையீருரி, s. A skin stripped off an elephant. ஈர்ப்பு, v. noun. uṭu (p. 59) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To dress, attire, put on clothes, வஸ்திரந்தரிக்க. 2. To dress another, ஒருவனுக் குடுக்க. 3. (fig.) (p.) To surround, encircle, சூழ. பிள்ளைக்குச்சீலையுடுத்தாள். She dressed the child. பூசலார்விழிக்குச்சந்தப்பூந்தழையுடுத்து. Adorning the attractive eyed body with boughs of the sandal tree. (திருச்செந்திற்புராணம்.) உடுகூறை, s. Clothes--in colloquial use, chiefly woman's. உடுத்தவாடை, s. Home-dress or dishabille, under-clothes. உடுத்தவாடையில்லாதாணீராட்டும். A woman's bathing without her under-garments (is improper). (திரிகடுகம்.) உடுத்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To dress one's self. உடுத்துவிட, inf. To dress another. உடுபாவனை, s. Mode or style of dress. 2. [prov.] A suit of clothes. 3. (Rott.) Clean clothes. உடுபுடவை, s. Garments. உடுமானம், s. A dress befitting a person's station in life. நகருடுத்த, rel. part. Surrounding the city. கடலுடுத்தபார், s. The sea-girt earth. உடுக்கை, v. noun. Dressing. 2. s. Raiment, clothing, உடை. உடுக்கையிழந்தவன்கைபோலவாங்கேயிடுக்கண்க ளைவதாநட்பு. (Real) friendship to one removes his distress with that promptitude with which the hands of him whose garments are loosened (while before an assembly) adjust them. (குறள்.) உடுப்பு, s. Clothes, garments, clothing, vesture, dress, வஸ்திரம். உடுப்புடுக்க, inf. To dress, clothe (one's self of another). 90)

kvr (p. 98) --கவரு, கிறேன், கவர்ந்தேன், வேன், கவர, v. a. To seize, grasp, catch, capture, bereave, take by force or stealth, பறிக்க. 2. The ravish, charm, captivate, attract, arrest, கிரகித்துக்கொள்ள. 3. To rob, steal, plunder, pillage, கொள்்ளையிட. 4. To embezzle, appropriate by force or stealth, திருட. 5. kāntam (p. 104) s. The magnet, load-stone, magnetic iron-stone, அயக்காந்தம், அரக்குக்காந் தம், உருளைக்காந்தம் ஊசிக்காந்தம், பலகைக்காந்தம், கற்காந்தம், தகட்டுக்காந்தம், are different varieties of magnet. 2. A class of mineral stones--as the சூரியகாந்தம், சந்திரகாந்தம். 3. (p.) Beauty, loveliness, agreeableness, அழகு. Wils. p. 29. KANTA. 4. [in rhetoric.] eulogy, commendation or praise within proper bounds; one of the ten particulars of the வைதருப்பம் mode of description, வைதருப்பநெறியில் ஒன்று. (தண்டி.) காந்தமும் ஊசியும்போல். As closely united as the load-stone and the needle. காந்தக்கல், s. The magnet or loadstone, அயக்காந்தம். காந்தசத்துரு, s. That which counteracts the magnetic power--as bluevitriol, sal-ammoniac, salt-petre, காந் தத்தின் சத்துருச்சரக்கு. காந்தபஸ்மம், s. Medicinal powders made of load-stone by a chemical process. காந்தபாஷாணம், s. A kind of arsenic. காந்தப்பெட்டி, s. The mariner's or surveyor's compass, திசையறிகருவி. காந்தமணி, s. A magnetic stone, காந் தக்கல். காந்தமண், s. Red earth, செம்மண். காந்தமலை, s. A mountain or rock far north, regarded as the centre of attraction to the magnet; the magnetic pole, காந்தக்கன்மலை. காந்தம்பிடிக்க--காந்தம்வலிக்க inf. To attract--as the magnet. காந்தவூசி, s. The magnetic needle, the steel pointer of the compass, காந்தத்தி னாற் செய்த ஊசி. 37) *

kuḷir (p. 131) -- குளிரு, கிறது, ந்தது, குளிரும், குளிர, v. n. To be cold, chilly, frigid; to be cold to the touch; to be moist, damp, குளிர்கொள்ள. 2. To be cool, to be refreshed, குளிர்ச்சியுற. 3. To be refreshing, gratifying, pleasant, cheering to the touch, sight or hearing; to be engaging, attactive, benignant--as the countenance, இதமாக. 4. To be appeased, consoled, comforted, சாந்தமுற. 5. To die--spoken of death in time of epidemies, when fear of the avenging goddess prevents the use of the proper word, வசூரிமுதலியவியாதியால்மரிக்க. அப்பாவென்றால்உச்சிகுளிருமா. Will merely saying அப்பா afford relief? i. e. not mere words, but actions are necessary. அவன்ஒரு குளிர்ந்தகொள்ளி. He is a coldblodded persons; a man of a fair speech, but an enemy at heart. இப்பொழுதுஎனக்குமனங்குளிர்ந்தது. I am now refreshed, satisfied, gratified, appeased, &c. உச்சிகுளிர்ந்தது. The head has been cooled or refreshed--as on hearing joyful intelligence, &c. எனக்குக்குளிருகின்றது. I feel cold. என்வயிறுகுளிர்ந்ததுபோல உன்மாளிகையுங்குளிர வேண்டும். May you and your family be refreshed as I have been--an expression of thanks for favors received. சரீரமெல்லாங்குளிர்ந்தது. The whole body is refreshed. குளந்தைஅம்மைவார்த்துக்குளிர்ந்துபோயிற்று. The child has died of small-pox. குளிரப்பண்ண--குளிரவைக்க, inf. To cool wines, spirits, &c. 2. To refresh, to satisfy the appetite, the mind, &c.; to regale, to oblige, to appease. கண்குளிரப்பார்த்தான். He feasted his eyes with a gratifying sight. காதுகுளிரக்கேட்டேன். My ears were refreshed by hearing. நிலங்குளிரமழைபெய்தது. It rained abundantly so as to cool the earth. மனங்குளிரக்கொடுத்தேன். I gave him as much as he desired. குளிர்ந்தகிரணம், s. A gratifying light, lustre, &c.--as of the moon, a gem, &c. குளிர்ந்தகுரல், s. A pleasant voice in singing. குளிர்ந்தசரீரம், s. A cool temperament of body. குளிர்ந்தநிழல், s. Refreshing shade. குளிர்ந்தநிறம், s. A gay, cheerful, fine color. குளிர்ந்தநீர், s. cool water. 2. Cooled water after boiling, &c. 3. Good water in gems. குளிர்ந்தபார்வை, s. Engaging, attractive, benignant looks. குளிர்ந்தமுகம், s. Benignant expression of countenance. குளிர்ந்தபூமி, s. A cool climate. குளிர்ந்தபேச்சு--குளிர்ந்தவசனம்--கு ளிர்ந்தவார்த்தை, s. Pleasant, comforting, gratifying language. குளிர்ந்தவாசனை, s. Refreshing odors. குளிர்ந்தமனம், s. A calm, composed mind. 2. A benevolent mind. 3. A pleasant temper, an obliging disposition. குளிர்ந்தபரிமளம், s. A kind of native arsenic, சீதாங்கபாஷாணம். குளிர்ந்துகொல்லி, s. A cold blooded person. குளிர்ந்துகிடக்க--குளிர்ந்துபோக, inf. To become cold--as water after boiling. 2. To die--used auspiciously in time of epidemics. குளிர்ச்சி, v. noun. [imp. குளிர்த்தி. vul. குளுத்தி.] Coolness, refrigeration, சீதளம். 2. That which is refreshing, pleasant, gratifying, appeasing; cooling offerings, திருத்திசரம். கண்ணுக்குக்குளிர்ச்சி. Refreshing to the eyes. தெய்வத்துக்குக்குளிர்த்திசெய்தான். He gave cooling fruits to appease the goddess or demon. குளிர்ச்சிப்பண்டம்--குளிர்மைப்பண் டம், s. Any thing that is cooling, refrigerative. குளிர்ச்சியானசாப்பாடு--குளிர்மையான சாப்பாடு, s. Refreshing or cooling kinds of food. குளிர்ச்சியாயிருக்க, inf. To be cool, refreshing to the system. குளிர்ப்பிக்க--குளிர்விக்க, inf. v. a. To cool, to refrigerate; to refresh with water, perfumes, &c.; to gratify the mind, sight, &c., குளிரச்செய்ய. 8)

tai (p. 261) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To sew, stitch, seam, make, as an article of dress, by sewing; to mend, &c., துன்ன. 2. To nail, to fasten boards, beams, &c., with nails, spikes, or pegs; to pin, to skewer, to run leaves together, ஆணிமுதலி யனதைக்க. 3. To net with a netting needle, வலைபின்ன. 4. [with தொகை.] To cast or add up; to close an account, as தொகைதைக்க. As v. n. க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க,-- in the 3d pers. neut. To pierce, to penetrate; to enter--as a thorn, arrow, bail or shot, முள்ளுமுதலியஏற, 2. (fig.) One who sewa, தையற்காரன். தைப்பை, s. A garment made by sewing, சட்டை. (சது.) தையல், v. noun. Sewing, stitch, seam. தை தையல்விட்டுப்போயிற்று--தையல்பிரிந்துபோயிற்று. The seam of the garment is ripped. தையல்வேலை, s. Stitching, needle work. பெரும்படித்தையல். Coarse sewing. சிறுதையல். Nice or neat sewing. கெட்டித்தையல். A double seam. தையலூசி, s. A sewing needle, in distinction from one for knitting. தையல்தைக்க, inf. To sew. தையல்பிரிக்க. inf. To rip open a seam. தையற்காரன், s. [fem. தையற்காரி.] A tailor, a seamster, a sewer. 2. A knitter. தையற்பை, s. A bag, as தையற்பெட்டி. தையற்பெட்டி, s. A work basket or box containing things for needle work. பீற்றல்தைக்க, inf. [also கந்தைபொ த்த.] To mend a rent in a garment. வலைதைக்க, inf. To mend nets. தைப்பு--தைத்தல், v. noun. Sewing, nailing, joining two things together by sewing, or nailing, தைக்கை. 2.
