He was musing and perplexed with many thoughts. உனக்குநாசகாலத்தையெண்ணியிருக்கிறார்கள். They are meditating thy destruction. இதையொருகுற்றமாயெண்ணுவார்களா. Will they regard this as a fault? எண்ணப்பட, inf. To be counted, reckoned. 2. To be esteemed, respected. எண்ணத்தொலையாதது--எண்ணப் படாதது, appel. n. That which cannot be counted. எண்ணாதகண்டன்--எண்ணாதநெஞ் சன், s. A very bold man, destitute of fear; a rash, or heedless man. எண்ணாதவன், s. A reckless person, a desperate man. பாவபுண்ணியங்களையெண்ணாதவன். One who has no regard either for virtue or vice. எண்ணாமற்பேச, inf. To speak without due regard to rank, station, &c., மதியாமற்பேச. 2. To speak without thought, யோசியாமற்பேச. எண்ணார், s. Enemies, பகைவர். (p.) எண்ணிப்பார்க்க, inf. To count, number. 2. To consider maturely, deliberate, to weigh in the mind. எண்ணிப்பேச, inf. To speak considerately or deliberately. எண்பட, inf. [prov.] To be discovered, to be caught, to be found out, அகப்பட. எண்ணல், v. noun. Calculation, reckoning, கணக்குச்செய்தல். 2. Astronomical calculation, கணித்தல். 3. Counting with the fingers in astronomical calculations, &c. See கைத்தொழில். எண்ணலர், s. Foes, enemies, பகைவர். (p.) எண்ணலளவை, s. Computation. எண்ணலளவையாகுபெயர், s. One of the four kinds of அளவையாகுபெயர், according to which a number is put for the thing numbered--as காலாலேநடந்தான், he walked on one-fourth (of his length); i. e. his leg, which is so called because it bears that proportion to individual stature. எண்ணிக்கை, v. noun. Regard, esteem, honor, estimation, reverence, மதிப்பு. 2. Number, numbering, கணிப்பு. --Note. This word is irregular in its formation. எண்ணிக்கைக்குப்பிறந்தபிள்ளைகள். Children who seem born only to make up a number, being of no estimation. எண்ணிக்கைக்குள்ளடங்காதது. That which is innumerable. சேவகரையெண்ணிக்கைசெய்கிறது. To muster soldiers. எண்ணிக்கைகொடுக்க, inf. kṭumai (p. 88) s. Severity, harshness, cruelty, hard-heartedness, அகோரம். 2. Rigor, strictness, asperity, rigidness, earnestness, zealousness, கண்டிப்பு. 3. Vehemence, impetuosity, forcibleness, furiousness, மூர்க்கம். 4. Rapidity, speed, haste, velocity, விரைவு. 5. Hardness, tenacity, firmness, roughness, ruggedness, கடினம். 6. Excessiveness, intensity, immoderateness, vastness, exorbitancy, flagrancy, atrocity, malignity, heinousness, desperateness, மி குதி. 7. Ferocity, savageness, furiousness, violence, கோபம். 8. Strength, powerfulness, வன்மை. 9. Cutting in language, offensiveness, satiricalness, injuriousness, குரூரம். The leading character of this word in its different meanings is intensity. (See கொடுமை.) From this word id derived the symbolic verb கடிது. (3d person sing.) It is severe, &c., with any of the meanings of கடுமை. கடிசு, v. noun. Being too perpendicular, too little bent-- as a hoe, adze, &c., to the handle, or a plough-share to the shaft, நிமிர்வு--opp. to தணிசு. கடிச்சை, s. Niggardliness, உலோ பகுணம். கடிச்சைக்காரன், s. A niggard, a penurious man. கடியது, the neuter appellative.) That which is severe. கடியமோசம், s. Imminent danger. கடியவார்த்தை, s. Hard or angry words, offensive terms or language. கடியன், s. A severe, cruel man. கடுங்கணாளர், s. Cruel, savage, barbarous persons, கொடியோர். கடுங்கண், s. Cruelty, severity, barbarousness, unmercifulness, கொடுமை. 2. [prov.] The scallop of a palmyra leaf in a கோலுபட்டை, cut too closely, ஒலைக்கண். கடுங்கருத்து, s. Abstruse idea, farfetched unnatural meaning, கடமையானக ருத்து. கடுங்காய், s. [prov.] Unripe fruit, பழாதகாய். கடுங்காய்நுங்கு, s. Palmyra fruit, the kernel or pulp of which is too far advanced to be eatable, முதிர்ந்தநுங்கு. கடுங்காய்ச்சல், s. Violent fever, மிகுசுரம். 2. v. noun. Being over-heated-as by the smith, அதிககாய்ச்சல். 3. Being dried or scorched much in the sun, வெ யிலிலதிகமாய்க்காய்தல். கடுங்காய்ச்சலாக்காய்ந்துபோயிற்று. (The corn, &c.), is all scorched (not irrecoverably) by the sun and want of water, rain, &c. கடுங்காரநீர், s. An egg, முட்டை. கடுங்காரம், s. A powerful caustic, ஓர்வகையெரிமருந்து. 2. Excessive pungency, அதிகவுறைப்பு. கடுங்காலம், s. A hard season as in drought, scarcity, &c., a season of adversity, பஞ்சகாலம். 2. A hot season, hot weather, வெப்பமானகாலம். கடுங்காற்று, s. A strong breeze, a furious wind, a tempest, அதிககாற்று. கடுங்கூர்மை, s. Being sharp, அ திககூர்மை. 2. Salt from sesamum, கடுந்தி லாலவணம். 3. Salt of sulphur, கந்தகவுப்பு. 4. Sea salt, கடலுப்பு. கடுங்கூர்மைலவணம், s. Salt from urine, அமரியுப்பு. கடுங்கோடை, s. A severe drought, முதிர்வேனில். கடுங்கோபம், s. Violent anger. கடுஞ்சினப்பூமி--கடுந்தழற்பூமி, s. kūtl (p. 133) s. [prop. கூதிர். in Madras, ஊதல்.] Cold as felt--the effect in distinction from its cause, குளிர். 2. Chills before an intermittent fever, காய்ச்சற்குளிர். அறநனைந்தவருக்குக்கூதலென்ன. No cold to them that are completely wet; i. e. no fear or shame to the desperately wicked. கூதல்விறைக்க, inf. To stiffen with cold--hyperbolically, for very cold. கூதற்காய, inf. In most of its meanings, bad or injurious qualities are implied. It differs from கடு மை, in Several meanings. Like that and similar abstract nouns, it drops the termination and combines with other nouns as an adjective, according to rule. வறுமைகொடிது. Poverty is cruel. வயிற்றுக்கொடுமையினால்வருந்துகிறான். He is vexed by want of food. கொடிது--கொடியது, appel. noun. That which is cruel, கொடுமையானது. கொடியகாடு, s. A wild, inhospitable desert. கொடியகூற்றன், s. The cruel Yama. கொடியசண்டாளர், s. Desperate wretches. கொடியபிறவி, s. Vile births--as evils to which souls are subject; horrid transmigration--as keeping the soul from union with the deity. கொடியமனம், s. A cruel or envious disposition. 2. The evil heart. கொடியமுகம், s. A frightful visage; a fierce countenance. கொடியமோசம், s. Flagrant errors. கொடியவஞ்சனை, s. Base turpitude. 2. A desperate fraud; a base imposition. கொடியவன், s. A vile wretch, a hardhearted cruel man. கொடியவீரன், s. A kind of prepared arsenic, கோடாசொரிபாஷாணம். (Rott.) கொடியவெப்பம், s. I cannot come. அவர்கள் பலவந்தம்செய்ததனால் தீராதென்று கொடு டுக்கவேண்டியிருந்தது. By their pressing (he said) it will not cease; it is necessary to give--Note தீராது, in such cases has a peculiar meaning. தாளந்தீர்ந்தான். He finished a tune. அதற்குவர்ணந்தீர்ந்தான். He painted it. இவன்தீர்ந்தசாமி. He is a brave fellow; (lit.) a brave god. (In irony.) தீர்கடை, s. The last end of a thing, termination, conclusion, முடிவு. 2. Absoluteness, entireness, முழுமை. தீர்ந்தகணக்கு. A settled account. தீர்ந்தகள்ளன், s. A finished rogue, a thorough villain, desperate thief. தீர்ந்தசரக்கு, s. (neg. தீராதசரக்கு.) Goods on which duty is paid. 2. Goods bargained for. தீர்ந்தபட்சம், s. The final settlement of accounts, disputes, &c. தீர்ந்தவன், s. A skilful, experienced man; an adept. (Commonly in a bad sense.) தீர்ந்தவேலை, s. A finished work. பட்டைதீர, inf. To give sides to a gem, to a piece of timber, or to a stone, in cutting or polishing. சாயந்தீர்கிறவன், s. A dyer. நவைதீருமாகமம், s. The faultless Agamas. (p.) தீர, inf. [used adv.] Altogether, entirely, perfectly, absolutely, thoroughly, completely, முழுவதும். தீரப்படித்தவனொருவனுமில்லை. There is none perfect in his studies. தீரமறக்க, inf. To forget entirely, altogether. தீராமை, v. noun. (neg.) That which cannot be obviated. தீராநோய்--தீராவியாதி, s.
