il (p. 55) . A form of the fifth case, (see இன்), ஐந்தனுருபு, which denotes. 1. Removal, withdrawal, நீங்கல். (a) Literally --as தமரிற்றீர்ந்தான், he has left his relations, i. e. for ascetic life. (b) (fig.) In which it expresses speciality, disparity, &c., and includes the comparative degree --as அரசரிற்பெரியரந்தணர், the Brahman caste is superior to the royal. 2. Similitude, ஒப்பு--as திறல்வேனுதியிற்பூத்தகேணி. A tank whose flowers resemble the points of mighty lances. 3. The bearing of a place, எல்லை--as கருவூரில்வடக்கு, north of Caroor.--Note. This form of the fifth case is peculiar to the poetic dialect. 4. The primitive cause, ஏது--as பொன்னிற் செய்தமுடி, a crown made of gold. 24)

ēktēcm (p. 76) s. Rareness, scarceness, a rare, extraordinary or prodigious occurrence, அருமை. 2. Anomaly, difference, excentricity, வேற்றுமை. 3. A blunder, a mistake; difference as above or below the mark; greater or less, disparity; unfitness, incongruity, disagreement, inconsistency, ஒவ்வாமை. 4. Exception to a general rule, ஒரோவிடத்துவிதிபிறழ்வு. 5. Undefinedness, uncertainty, fickleness, சந்தேகம். ஏகதேசத்திலுநினைத்திருக்கவில்லை. I never even once thought of it. ஏகதேசமில்லை. It is without error, not different, exact. இந்தநிலமேகதேசமாயிருக்கிறது. This ground is uneven. அதற்குமிதற்குமிகவுமேகதேசம். There is a great difference between that and this. இங்கேநின்றேகதேசமாய்ப்பேசப்படாது. Don't use scurrilous language here. 11)

tiṇai (p. 238) s. The earth, பூமி. 2. Place, situation, location, site, இடம். 3. Family, குடி. 4. General division of themes or subjects in writings, பொருள். (See அகத்திணை and புறத்திணை.) 5. Tribe, caste, race, குலம். 6. [in gram.] General classification of nouns, pronouns and verbs as உயர்திணை. rational, and அஃறிணை, irrational. 7. Prescribed or regular course of conduct, ஒழுக் கம். 8. Soil, land, of which are five varieties, ஐந்திணை. 9. [in love poetry.] General intercourse of the sexes, as love attachments, love quarrels, &c., பெருந்திணை. ஐந்திணை, s. The five species of land are: 1. குறிஞ்சி, hilly tracts. 2. பாலை. desert, arid tracts. 3. முல்லை, sylvan tracts. 4. மருதம், agricultural tracts. 5. நெய்தல், maritime tracts.--Note. The varieties in love are seven, of which five are taken from the names of the species of land above mentioned, viz.: 1. கைக்கிளை. 2. குறிஞ்சி; 3. பாலை; 4. முல்லை; 5. மருதம், for which, see அகப்பொருள். To these are added; 6. நெய்தல், the lady bemoaning her lover's absence; 7. பெ ருந்திணை, unnatural castes; disparity in age--as the wife being the elder, violation of customary rules; also love disasters, marriage feuds, &c. The last is considered inadmissible in love poetry. திணைப்பெயர், s. Names of the five soils. திணைமயக்கம், s. Blending of different soils. 2. [in love poetry.] Blending the peculiarities of any two or more soils, in an account of the inhabitants, பலநிலத் தோரைக்கலந்துரைத்தல். திணைவழு, s. [in gram.] Disagreement in திணை, as of the verb with its nominative, the pronoun with its noun, &c. 39)

tiraṇam (p. 239) s. Grass, gramincpus plant. W. p. 383. TRUN'A. 2. A straw, blade of grass or stubble, &c., துரும்பு. 3. (fig.) A very little thing, a trifle, அற்பம். (c.) திரணப்பிராயம். As a mere nothing. திரணமாவதுநினைக்கிறதில்லை. You don't regard me even a little. திரணபதி, s. (St.) Plantain as the chief of grasses, வாழை. திரணமாய்ப்பார்க்க, inf. To look contemptuously. திரணமாய்ப்பேச, inf. To speak disparingly of a person or thing. 4)

tūram (p. 254) s. Remoteness, distance, சேய் மை, W. p. 419. DURA. 2. (fig.) Remoteness to consanguinity, உதிரக்கலப்பில் லாமை. 3. Difference, distinction, discrepancy, disparity, வித்தியாசம். (c.) தூரத்துத்தண்ணீர்ஆபத்துக்குதவாது. Water at a distance will not avail in emergency. தூரநில். Stand off. தூரவிலகு. Go away, get away. அதற்குமிதற்கும்வெகுதூரம். That is very remote from this. 2. There is much difference between them. அவர் மனம் தூரத்திலேகிடக்கிறது. His thoughts are very far from the thing in hand. தூரத்திலேதெரிகிறது. It appears at a distance. உனக்குமெனக்குந்தூரம். We differ much. தூரகாரி--தூரதரிசி, s. One capable of understanding futurity or prognosticating, வருகாரியமறிவோன். (பாரதம், போர். 14.) தூரகாரியம், s. Remoteness from the subject. 2. [in Rhetoric.] Effect from a distant cause. தூரசூலை, s. Obstruction of the menses. See சூலை. தூரதிட்டி--தூரதிஷ்டி--தூரதிருஷ்டி, s. Distant sight, being far-sighted, சேய் மைப்பார்வை. 2. (Sing. தூரத்தான்.) Persons living at a distance. 2. Distant relations. தூரஸ்திரீ, s. A menstruous woman removed for the time from domestic concerns, வீட்டுக்குத்தூரமாயிருக்கிறவள். தூரத்திலேபோட, inf. To put at a distance. 2. To destine or appoint one to a distant station. தூரத்திலேயெறிய, inf. To throw to a distance. 2. To reject one's advices. 3. To abandon one to forsake one. தூரந்தொலை, s. A great distance, a long way, as தொலைதூரம். தூரத்துறவு--தூரஉறவு, s. Distant relations; [ex தூரம், et உறவு.] தூரப்பயணம்--தூரப்பிரயாணம், s. Journey to a distant place. தூரமாயிருக்க, inf. To be distant, remote, &c. 2. To be far removed 3. To be very different. 4. To be menstruous; (lit.) distant. See தூரஸ்திரி. தூரமானஎண்ணம், s. Aspiring thoughts, ambition. 2. Anxious thoughts as to futurity, &c. 3. Absence of mind, thinking of other things. 4. Thoughts abstracted from the world, and aspiring after the deity. தூரர்க்குத்தூரன், s.
