The common termination of the third person singular feminine, பெண்பாற்படர்க்கை யொருமைவிகுதி. ஆளானான். He has attained to manhood, has become a person of consequence. அவனதற்காளோ? Is he competent for that? மரங்களாளாய்ப்போயின. The trees have arrived at maturity. ஆட்காட்டி, s. The forefinger, சுட்டுவிரல். 2. A bird, the lapwing, which screeches on the approach of a person by night, ஓர்பறவை. ஆட்கூலி, s. The hire of a workman. ஆட்கொல்லி, s. A murderer, manslayer, homicide, assassin, கொலை காரன். 2. (fig.) Gold, money, பணம். ஆட்கொள்ள, inf. To employ as a servant, admit as a worshipper, devotee, &c.--used in reference to the deity, or a great person--implying grace or condescension in the receiver, and benefit to the person taken, அடிமைகொள்ள. ஆட்பட, inf. To become a servant, devotee, &c., commonly to a deity. 2. [prov.] To rise from obscurity, become a man of some property, or consequence. 3. To come to manhood. 4. To regain strength, &c., after sickness. அவனென்னாலேயாட்பட்டான். He became eminent by me. ஆட்படுத்த, inf. To adopt one as a devotee, servant, &c. 2. To raise a person from obscurity. 3. To rear, bring up a person from a child to a man, cherish, nourish. ஆட்பார்க்க, inf. To seek another. 2. To watch as a thief, guard himself against detection. 3. To look for persons for any bad purpose--as a prostitute, &c.--as Yama the god of death. ஆட்பார்த்துழலுமருளில்கூற்றுண்மையால். Since Yama the merciless god of death, who goes about looking for his victims, does actually exist. (நாலடி). ஆளரி, s. Vishnu in his incarnation as a lion. ஆளன்கீழப்பெண்சாதி, s. A wife. ஆளானவன், s. One who is arrived at the state of manhood. 2. One who is become eminent, or exalted over others. ஆளொட்டி--ஆளொதுங்கி, s. A hiding place, மறைவு. 2. A sentry-box, காவற்கூடு. ஆளோட்டி, s. A slave-driver, task-master, overseer of workmen, ஆளை வேலைகொள்வோன். ஆள்தேறுதல், v. noun. Recovering strength or stoutness. ஆள்த்திட்டம்--ஆட்டிட்டம், s. Depth, capacity of a person. 2. Marks for recognizing a person, recognizance. ஆள்வணங்கி, s. A tree, Ficus, L. ஆள்வினை, s. Energy, alacrity, diligence, application, exertion, perseverance, an enterprise, முயற்சி. 2. kṉ (p. 102) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To be heavy, to become heavy, massive, solid, thick, hard, injurated, பாரமா யிருக்க. 2. To be thick, close, crowded, numerous, பருக்க. 3. To be abundant, copious, to outweigh, &c., அதிகரிக்க; the infinitive used adverbially expresses very much. கனக்கக்கொடுத்தான். He gave plentifully. கனத்தஉடைமைக்கனர்த்தமில்லை. The topmost part of the trunk of a tree, commonly of a palm as unfit for use. தலையாட்டம்--தலைநடுக்கம், v. noun. Shaking of the head from age, palsy, &c. தலையாயார், s. (plu.) To engage in, to ventrue on, to undertake, to take on one's self, to meddle with, to intermeddle, to concern one's self in. அதிலேயேன்தலையிட்டுக்கொள்ளுகிறாய். Why do you interfere in that business? தலையிடி, s. (inf. தலையிடிக்க.) A throbbing headache. தலையிலெடுத்துவிட--தலையில்தூக்கி விட, inf. To assist another to take up a load. தலையிலெழுத, inf. To write one's destiny in his head; ascribed to Brahma. தலையிலேறப்பார்க்க, inf. To endeavor to lord over others, or to treat them with disrespect. தலையிறக்கம், v. noun. Hanging the head through grief, chagri &c. தலையீற்று, v. noun. The first calving, yeaning, &c. 2. The firstling of cattle. தலையீற்றுப்பசு--தலையீற்றுக்கடாரி, s. A cow that has calved but once. தலையுடைக்க, inf. To break the head; i. e. to rack the brains and take great trouble in calculations, intricate business, &c. எவ்வளவாய்த்தலையுடைத்துக்கொண்டாலுங்கே ட்கிறானில்லை. Though I break me head for him. ever so much, he does not regard me. தலையுவா,s. The new moon. (p.) தலையெடுக்க, inf. To rise in circumstances, to recover one's standing. 2. To return to the attack when beaten by force. 3. To become eminent, celebrated. distinguished. 4. (lit.) To raise the head. தத்திக்குத்தித்தலையெடுத்துக்கொண்டான். He has risen in life, after many misfortunes. தலையெடுப்பு, v. noun. Amendment of circumstance. 2. Recovery from ruin. 3. Growing up, and establishing one's self in life, as a youth. 4. Loftiness. eminence, superiority, distinction. 5. Holding the head erect. தலையெடுப்பாய்ப்பேசாதே. Don't be arrogant in your remarks. தலையெடுப்பானகோபுரம். A lofty tower. தலையெழுத்து, s. Destiny, fate, as supposed to be written in the head by Brahma, according to the actions of previous births, தலைவிதி. 2. Signature to a bond or instrument, inserted at the beginning. 3. The heading or title of a book. 4. The first or capital letter in a writing. தலையேறுதண்டம், s. [prov.] Punishment above what one is able to bear. 2. (fig.) Excessive trouble or labour; compulsory service, அநியாயதண்டம். தலையைக்கொடுக்க--தலைகொடுக்க, inf. To step forward in one's behalf, in a case of exigency. 2. To expose one's self to danger for another. தலையைச்சுற்றியெறிய, inf. To detest utterly; to reject with disgust, disdain and scorn. தலையைநடுக்க, inf. To feel dizziness, sickness, slight intoxication--as from betel, tobacco, spirits, &c. தலையோடு, s. The skull. தலைவணங்க, inf. To do homage. 2. To fall or bend down--as corn in the field. See தலைமடங்க. தலைவரி, s. Poll-tax. 2. Heading. தலைவலி--தலைநோ, s. Headache. இதுதலைவலிதான். This is a task uselessly imposed. தலைவலியுங்காய்ச்சலுந் தனக்குவந்தாலல்லோதெ ரியும். Headache and fever, are know to the sufferer; i. e. each one knows his own trials. தலைவழிய, inf. To over-flow, as a cup or vessel. தலைவறை, s. A head land, cape, promontory. (Rare.) தலைவன், s. (plu. தலைவர், தலைவமார்.) A chief, a head man. 2. A king, a ruler, a governor. 3. An elder brother. 4. A husband. 5. A superior, a senior. (சது.) 6. A guru. 7. A master. தலைவாசகம், s. Introduction of a writing; preface, salutation, &c. முகவுரை. தலைவாசல்--தலைவாயில்--தலைவாய்தல், s. The main gate to a city, castle, house, &c. தலைவாரை--தலைவாரைப்பட்டை, s. [prov.] A basket cap, as தலைப்பட்டை. தலைவாழையிலை, s. The top leaf of a plantain tree. தலைவி, s. (mas. தலைவன்.) A lady, a mistress, a matron. 2. A wife, மனைவி. தலைவிதி, s. Fate written in the head. See தலையெழுத்து. தலைவிரிகோலம், s. Dishevelled locks of persons in a fright, in sorrow, &c. தலைவிரிச்சான், appel. n. One with matted hair, தலைமயிர்முடியாதவன். 2. A plant, சாரணை. 3. The plant செருப்படை. தலைவிரிச்சான்கூட்டம், s. A nickname given to the female sex, ஸ்திரீசனம். தலைவிரிச்சான் கூட்டந் தடியெடுத்தாலோட்டம். An effeminate mob is routed with a staff. தலைவிலை, s. The first or harvest price of grain, when it is plentiful, &c. தலைவிழுவான், appel. n. He (his head) will lie low--an expression of ill will. தலைவெட்ட, inf. To strike off the measure. 2. To behead, to decapitate. 3. (fig.) To do a treacherous act. தலைவெட்டுகிறவன். A villain. தலைவெட்டுங்காரியமோ. Is it a capital crime? தலைவெட்டு, v. noun. The first cutting. தலைவைக்க, inf. A fruit in its season. பருவஞ்சொல்ல, inf. To propose measures, advise how to act. பருவநாடி, s. Time of conjunction or opposition of sun and moon. பருவந்தப்ப, inf. To pass the season. பருவப்பனை, s. The female tree of the Palmyra species. 2. The palmyra tree that bears fruit at the proper season. See பனை. பருவப்பாளை, s. The flower of the Palmyra occurring in its season. பருவமழை, s. Seasonable rain. பருவமுயற்சி, v. noun. Application in due season. (நன்.) பருவம்பார்க்க, inf. To consider or devise measures, to thing how to act. 2. To seek opportunity. பருவம்பிழைக்க, inf. To fail--as a season, opportunity. (p.) பருவம்--பருவகாலம், 6. The six seasons of the year, are: கார், cloudy, August and September; 2. கூதிர், cold, October and November; 3. முன்பனி, evening dew, December and January; 4. பின்பனி, morning dew, February and March; 5. இளவேனில், milder, hot season, April and May; 6. முதிர்வேனில், hot season, June and July. ஆடவர்பருவம், 6. The six stages of life in males, are; பாலன், a child under five years; 2. காளை, from five to sixteen; 3. குமாரன், or விடலை, sixteen to thirtytwo; 4. ஆடவன், or மன்னன், thirty-two to forty-eight; 5. மூத்தோன், or ஆடவவிருத் தன், forty-eight to sixty-four; 6. விருத் தன், above the age of sixty-four. ஆடவர்மகளிர்பருவம், 6. The six stages of males and females, are: வற்சம், infancy; 2. பாலியம், childhood; 3. யௌ வனம், adolescence; 4. கௌமாரம், manhood or womanhood; 5. விருத்தம், maturing age; 6. வார்த்தவ்வியம், senility. The divisions in the life of a female are of two kinds; 1. மகளிர்பருவம், 4. Four stages; 1. வாலை or பாலை, a girl to the age of maturity; 2. தருணி, a young woman; 3. பிரவிடை-பிரௌடை, a middle aged woman; 4. விருத்தை, an old woman. II. மகளிர்பருவம், 7. Seven stages of life in the female; 1. பேதை, from five to seven years of ages inclusive; 2. பெது ம்பை, eight to eleven; 3. மங்கை, from twelve to thirteen; 4. மடந்தை, from fourteen to nineteen; 5. அரிவை, from twenty to twenty-five; 6. தெரிவை, from twenty-six to thirty-one; 7. பேரிளம்பெ ண், from thirty-two to forty.--Note. According to the நிகண்டு, seven, and upwards, is the period for the first stage; and so on through the table. பருவத்திலேபிள்ளைபெற்றாள். The feminine gender in the animal and vegetable kingdom, விலங்குமுதலியவற்றின்பெண். (c.) பெண்ணென்றால்பேயுமிரங்கும். Even a fiend will pity a woman. பெண்கரு, s. Female embryo. பெ பெண்கலை, s. The latter half of a verse, called வண்ணம். பெண்கள்சிகாமணி, s. A jewel-like woman. (in admiration.) பெண்கள்நாயகம், s. An excellent woman, a lady. பெண்குறி, s. Pudendum muliebre. பெண்கேட்க, inf. To solicit a girl of her friends, in marriage. பெண்கொடி, s. A lady; (lit.) a female vine. (p.) பெண்கொடுக்க, inf. To give a girl in marriage. பெண்கொடுத்தமாமன், s. A father-inlaw, as distinguished from தாய்மாமன். பெண்கொள்ள--பெண்ணெடுக்க, inf. To take a wife, to take a woman in marriage, to marry. பெண்கோலம்--பெண்வேஷம், s. Female attire or costume. பெண்சகோதரம், s. [in gram.] Nouns feminine, from any member, or part, as முடத்தி, a female cripple-- also applied to the lower animals. பெண்மைச்சினைமுதற்பெயர், s. Nouns feminine from a member but including the whole body, as முடக்கொற்றி, the lame Kotty, though lame only in a limb. பெண்மைமுதற்பெயர், s. Nouns feminine being the name of a person, as கொற்றி, a woman. பெண்வகை, 4. Four classes of women: 1. பதுமினி, the highest class, possessing excellence of form, and sweetness of disposition; 2. சித்திருணி or சித்தினி, a class addicted to love; 3. சங்கினி, a mediocre class, irascible and passionate; 4. அத்தினி, the lowest class libidinous and furious. பெண்வழி, s.
